I think more than anything, my worry comes from the possibility of a negative health outcome. I worry about the hernia and gerd. But I'm tired of being uncomfortable in my own skin.

Yeah same here I'm worried about the negative side effects post-op but worried about the hernia staying there for many years again and I'm so sick of waking up in the middle of the night with acid reflux sitting up all night fighting not to sleep I'm just so over it and so exhausted I've even thought about asking the doctors whether I can have just a hernia repair and if I do will I lose my chance of the whole surgery will it be postponed - so many question marks in my mind😐☹️

My surgery is scheduled for April 20th. I'm super nervous and second guessing myself. I'm was able to lose 30 lbs (as of today) in the last 4 1/2 months. I'm at 212 lbs and have always struggled with getting into onederland. Am I overthinking...

OMG! Same here I'm due for a hiatal hernia repair and gastric bypass on the 27th of April. I've lost 30lbs since December 5th I was 240lbs now I'm down to 211lbs I've got another 77 to go! my whole family keeps saying you don't need the surgery youve got such willpower you've lost 13kilos already you can lose another 13 easily! BUT they don't understand that it's not about losing it's about keeping it off! I've lost many times before but put it back oh after I stopped all the hard work. I've managed to lose 13 kilos with the help of Ozempic at the same time which really helps with my hunger pangs, but I know myself the weight is just going to come back on within a couple of months once I stop using ozempic! as my weight is hereditary I put it on very easily I'm just happy that I'm losing before the surgery so it to be quicker to reach my goal weight post-surgery💪😊🙏

Hellooooo!!! Day 4 if your insurance covers it please my friends go get yourself an infusion! Ask your docs and surgeon about them they are just wonderful and really put you on a pathway to success and no dehydration for you! They will pack it full of all the Vitamins you need to be successful!! I had a sip of a Premier Protein and I kept it down perfect so it’s on now! And here are my favorite flavors and things you can do with them. My favorite brand at the moment is Premier Protein I was drinking these guys even before surgery because they are tasty and filling, the chocolate Peanut Butter cup flavor is sooooo so good I mixed that with my cold brew coffee and I was obsessed the Caramel flavor with coffee tastes like a caramel macchiato! When you are all able to have coffee of course the Peanut Butter cup flavor alone is also very nice tasting Now I have also discovered something else I loooove chai tea and chai tea lattes but these can be super high in carbs and sugar so this is my special potion hehe. The celestial seasonings brand has a spiced tea called Bengal Spice I brew that in 6oz of Water and top it off with a vanilla Premier Protein and boom! Chai tea and it’s so tasty and high in protein! Now that I can keep the thicker Protein Drinks down I’m going to start playing with them! I hope you all have a nice day and are keeping those fluids under control sending love and hydration your way y’all! ❤️

The Vitamin infusion down in Australia is a lot of money as well unless your insurance covers that it cost between $300 to $600 but I will look into it and I don't know about the premier Protein Shake you mentions if we have it in Australia I will be looking into that maybe I might be able to order that online every little bit helps thanks so much for sharing and all the best to you Miortega 🙏🙏🙏😊

I’m do for the same…hiatal hernia repair and gastric bypass…not in 9 days, though. 🙂 At least I don’t think so. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I might jump at the chance to get the surgery out of the way soon, though, if given the opportunity. It all depends on my schedule at school. We’ll see. Right now I’m thinking June 10-ish…last day of school.
    I’ll be watching for your
    updates, Merill. Keep posting.

    Hi Marianne hope you're well,

I might be postponed due to a Iron infusion, we'll find out on Tuesday as I had it done on the 14th and I was told it that iron-transfer does not settle before 4 weeks even if there's a blood test it won't give accurate results, the surgery is due soon the results wont be accurate to get the all clear I'm assuming. So it's really up to the hospital to decide what the decision will be with this situation they may postpone they may not I'm just waiting for Tuesday to call them find out but will definitely keep you posted.

Day 3 y’all! My surgeon and nutritionist have both told me I should be feeling better daily and I’m so blessed in my case this is true. No throwing up today everything is staying down! My Water intake is better and I’m currently having some strained cream of chicken Soup that I thinned down with my Water to make it easier on my tum! Today I’m focused on trying for more Protein the thick premier Proteins Im waiting for the 1 week mark to try again but I have found these alternatives! V8 has little baby cans that have 10g of Protein I found at Walmart and also Gatorade has sugar free with 10g of protein. I also heard of this brand called bipro that carried protein water that has 20g of protein! Premier Protein also has a clear liquid drink that’s high in protein but very sweet, I’m hoping to have some success today with protein intake and get some more walking in! How is everyone else? Anyone want some reviews on the two drinks I’m picking up today? Lots of love ❤️

I'm due for a gastric bypass and a hiatal hernia repair in 9 days I've heard a lot of bad reactions post-op it's reassuring to hear some positive good outcomes as well it gives a good balance congratulations on your surgery hope you get better everyday and please keep posting of drinks & food that you consume it's great information for some of us. All the best🙏

    Thanks heaps 😊🙏❤️

We have all been in that moment where you are seeing surgery on the horizon and the creeping terror of the unknown is making you question everything. I was also very worried about all this, terrified even. I was convinced I would die on the operating room table and made sure I had a will in place before surgery just in case that happened. But, this is where the personal equation of risk is important: are the potential benefits of the surgery better than the alternative, which is the status quo or gaining even more weight, with little likelihood that I would be successful losing it and keeping it off. This answer is going to be different for each of us.

I'm 8 months out, and still in the honeymoon period, but I can honestly - in this moment - say this is the best thing I have done for myself, and I wish I had done it sooner. Even if I don't lose another pound, I already feel 1000x better than I did, mentally and physically. I was self pay, too, so this was a huge monetary investment in myself and my future. Have there been challenges? Yes, but in my mind it is no different than the calculated risks people with other health issues have to take to chase potentially better outcomes. We all have to weigh the factors and decide what is more important: the possibility of success or the risk of complication.

    Absolutely!

100% agree! 👍👏thank you so much for your Insights and experiences that you are sharing, it really lifts a lot of stress anxiety and fear that is building up! 😊🙏

    I had a gastric sleeve surgery 9/2012.

this year I have had horrific GERD. After the endoscope and swallow test ,they found the gastrointestinal hiatal hernia. The swallow test showed the hernia and severe GERD with divertculum on the stomach wall.
I have a manometry test next week but my dr agrees that I need hernia repair and revision surgery June 16 is my surgery date.

    Hi,

thats really interesting, as far as the doctors are saying, is the hiatus hernia is caused by weight gain and when its repaired you need to lose the weight as well or it just comes back! As I've been struggling with a hiatal hernia for years and finally they're going to repair it, now I'm baffled😳😕

Well all the best to you hope your surgery fixes that problem🙏

    Hi & welcome.
I sorta had a Hiatal hernia repair when I had my bypass 4 years ago.
I had a fundolipacation 15 years ago to repair the hernia. That lasted about 8 years & is slowly failed.
I had the bypass to repair all of that.
I have lost 65-70lbs depending on the day😸

    Good luck with your surgery.

    Hi thanks for that 😊

I was told that once you lose the weight the hernia will go away but if you gain it back it will come back, I was weighing 240 lbs in December I now weigh 214 Ibs, have managed to lose some by cutting down on my portion size carbs and sugar prior to surgery and hoping that the hernia will not come back as I've been advised by the doctors, I have another 70 lb to lose🤞🤞🤞

  11. My bariatic center for our program specifically told us not to avoid caffeine during the pre op phase. Interesting how all the pre op diets are different lol.
I didn't know that we had to stay away from caffeine as I've been drinking coffee quite a lot my dietitian did not inform me about no coffee interesting how some people are mentioning caffeine I might have to check with my dietician about this thanks for sharing

  12. Mine was discovered during the routine pre-op tests. I knew something was there because I had acid reflux and other hernias before. They were surprised the hernia was all the way up to my larynx. I think the recovery took longer because of the repair, the surgery was 7 hours due to it with the RNY. No regrets now that I can lie down flat to sleep, and sing again!
Omg that is so good to hear I can't wait till they fix mine mine is pretty bad as well and it will be the same time as the gastric bypass I was told the operation lasts about 3 to 5 hours fingers crossed all goes

  13. For those that had a hiatal hernia, Did you know before surgery or was it found out during surgery? Ive been curious on it because for the last year or so i have had center chest pain (very top of my stomach) and wondering if that could be it. Shall see if the surgeon finds anything in 9 days. thats one thing i forgot to ask about. as for this pre op diet... Day 6 is almost done and the hunger has subsided and its getting easier.

    Hi!
I'm also getting a hiatus hernia repair and gastric bypass at the same time, I've had my hernia for several years and I've not had that pain as you described rather I've had a lot of acid reflux if I had anything to eat a couple of hours before bedtime, even water! and it will rush up with acid burning my oesophagus so badly, I would be sitting up all night, awake! As soon as my inner organs whent into sleep mode the acid would rush up its teribble! I only take small sips of Water when I go to bed to avoid the acid reflux trigger, hopefully with this surgery that'll all go away, my surgery is due on the 27th of April, scared but excited and enthusiastic at the same time well hopefully most of my problems will have gone when I lose the weight

  14. 11weeks post-op, and although I have nausea on and off all day, and am on 2 different nausea meds, I would not do any different. I am not losing as quickly as some, but (one) I have always had a hard time losing, and (two) if I feel like eating, it's better than the nausea. (Eating usually does not cause the nausea-when I do misbehave, I own up to it, lol) I've lost 30 pounds in those 11 weeks, and that's fine with me.. 25 years ago, it took me two YEARS to lose fifty. (Then a family member got sick, and the diet went out the window.) My doc says the nausea has to do with hormonal changes and most people are over it by now, but as long as he tells me it is not a lifetime thing, I can deal with it. Do it again? You betcha!
Good on you! and well done! for not thinking negatively and giving up because of the nausea and the bad sides of it it's good to focus on the positives and keep going having a high self-esteem it's something that I haven't had for a long time and I'm really hoping that this surgery will change all that regardless of the negative sides[emoji4][emoji106]

  15. 3.5 years out. ZERO regrets (other than not doing it sooner, like many others)

My eating habits have not gone “back to normal”, as in my pre-op days, but has definitely expanded since the early days post surgery.

I still eat much less and much slower than everyone else around me, but thats just fine with me. I also eat a wide range of foods (including not-as-healthy options) and am doing just fine. Been maintaining below goal weight almost 3 yrs now.

I do still dump as well, but again, this is easily avoided (not too much sugar at a time, and never on an empty stomach).

ALL of my obesity-related issues are long gone, and i feel awesome. Confidence, energy and attitude are way up (as is my wardrobe, lol).

    So yeah, no regrets.

    Good Luck! [emoji3590]

P.S. [mention=388871]18kDays[/mention]: are u contemplating surgery or have you already started the process?

Hi ms.ss I've been reading these blogs since I've joined a couple of days ago and there are many who are not happy with their outcome problems with nausea vomiting cramps and some even think of reversing the surgery not happy with the results, I hope they overcome all that and are content with the overall outcome of it.. on the other hand it's so good to see positive feedbacks as well to give us courage and motivation! as the more I read negative feedbacks the more I'm stressing of what is waiting for me ahead, it's daunting for some of us who are scared of what waits around the corner, will I regret it, will I be happy that I did it this, it's a mystery lol THAT I will have to wait and see till after the 27th of April lol it's nice to see that you're doing well and confident and happy with yourself I'm hoping to feel the same eventually[emoji120][emoji4] [emoji4]Good on you wish you all the best[emoji106][emoji3590][emoji120][emoji3590][emoji4][emoji106]

  16. My surgeon told me that the sleeve was the only one that was permanent, the bypass was reversible which was interesting. for me since i am paying out of pocket, Both are permanent because i dont have another 20 grand to spend on getting something reversed lol
Yes its not cheap I'm reading all these different side effects post-op and I'm thinking what am I going to come accros with my surgery. I hope all goes well fingers crossed!

  17. I'm the one who posted that I'm still hungry. Most people (but not all!) lose their hunger for a few months after surgery. But it always comes back. However, I am satisfied on MUCH LESS food. And there are medications that have been helpful for me.
I am nauseous from my Multivitamin, but I haven't thrown up in a long time. I have found that if I eat something with fat in it before I take the multivitamin, I am better
I have also lost 113 lbs so far. Is my life miraculously better? No. I'm a smaller person who is more comfortable in my body. I still have pain in my knee and arm. I walk faster now. I still have bipolar disorder (the surgery center thinks this is why I never lost my hunger). Am I glad I did the surgery? Most days.
Should you cancel your surgery? That's up to you. Most people do not end up regretting it.
That is great advice thank you Liz

Started at around month 3 or 4 & persisted for about 3 or 4 months. Just noticed more hair in my hands when shampooing. According to my hair dresser I lost about 40% (I think it was more 30%) but I had heaps to begin. You may lose more or less. It’s very individual. I cut my long hair to just above my shoulders so it wasn’t as noticeable.

The hair the sheds is hair that you were going to lose anyway - your natural Hair loss cycle is just accelerated. Your new hair is growing at the same time but at it’s usual rate so isn’t really noticeable for a while - you’ll start to see fluffy new growth after a month or so depending on how fast your hair grows.

Remember all the hair on your head is actually dead & naturally sheds. The live part is root under your skin. So all the Vitamins & supplements may do is strengthen your new growth. Fertiliser won’t save dead leaves on a plant or stop them falling off but can promote new leaf growth. Some people swear by Vitamins & supplements but they still lose hair over that similar 3 or 4 month period.

I never had a problem with my teeth. I go to my dentist every 6 months & he gives me a gold star every time (he was my PE teacher at school & we laugh about it as he never gave me a gold star at school 😆😆).

My skin didn’t get drier actually the opposite. Always had dry & itchy arms & legs & those little bumps on my arms regardless of how often I exfoliated & moisturised. Don’t exfoliate at all now. My skin is soft but I do moisturise but not as lavishly. My legs have started to get a little itchy again but I think it’s more to do with shaving than anything else. The better diet. More Protein & little or no sugar are why. You will look a little drawn & tired while losing but this settles once you are in maintenance & eating a little more. Everything seems to need time to resettle again.

That is great advice! Thank you! I have thinning hair on top as it is and it was really scary for me to think about more at hair losses as I keep reading about others who were losing their hair after surgery, but reading your comment made me reassured and confident now that it will go back to normal within a couple of months at least it's not permanent thanks once again 🙏😊every little bit of knowledge helps to make it more successful on this WLS journey 😊👍

WHAAAAT???? Nobody ever told me this!!!! I just had a crown and 3 fillings done and had my teeth deep cleaned. I'm going next week to have sealant put on them because I have sensitive teeth. Holy smokes. I better call my dentist tomorrow. I had absolutely no idea this could happen!!!!

Everybody's body reacts differently ours may not be the teeth it may maybe the hair we can never know but yes I've heard that teeth do get brittle if not taken adequate supplements😕
