Oh my, Merill: I am one to weigh myself everyday as well. I will have to watch the video and break the habit.

Lol I totally agree Marianne I'm trying to break it and it's not going to be easyπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I just had my 1st post op appointment 5/24/22 and the nurse told me to try and avoid the scale at all costs. She said that my metabolism will be doing all kinds of crazy things to adjust after the surgery. She promised to just follow the dieticians plan and get in some walking and weight will continue to fall off.

After being postponed twice with my surgery due to covid cases, I'm now rescheduled for the 27th of June. Reading all this about the scales and stalling I'm one that weighs herself everyday lol it's good that I've watched this video, such vital information for everyone having this sort of surgery for weight loss, thanks so much for sharing πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

You aint no puppet Merrill. I am glad that you will be going to the medical board. If the hospital was losing money I am sure they would make a change. I wonder if they could refund your costs to date?

The distress of this must be so hard. Channel your hurt/anger into some exercise or whatever you think will have a positive effect. Hopefully on Friday a solution will be found. I would love to hear the outcome. Hugs dear lady.

Will keep you updated thanks Possum β™₯️β™₯️β™₯️

This is an excellent response. Your point is so well made, articulate and concise. One would absolutely expect that after 2+ years, a better system was in place.
    Thank you for saying this.

    Totally agree with you Marianneβ™₯οΈπŸ‘

I am so sorry Merrill that this has happened for the second time. Once is bad enough but twice really stinks. :( Why are they even booking you in when a bed can't be guaranteed. How disappointing. No wonder you would be losing focus.

Is it possible to have a chat with the surgeon's office and let them know how this is affecting you emotionally and financially? Surely you are not the only one who is being impacted and they need to ensure that there are no more false starts. Taking care of their patients starts before the operation.

Covid really is a pain. Given that this has been the situation for the past two years time to make constructive improvements to their booking system. ((Hugs))

    Hi Possum,

I was quite bad for 2 days tears running down my face depressed. But better now it is what it is, and you are right, we're going to be calling them on Friday to talk to the Medical Board and see where this takes us, bc it's just gone beyond a joke! the way they don't give a damb about how it's impacting people, yo yoing and playing with us like puppets!πŸ˜”

Oh bummer Merrill! Any idea when they might reschedule?

Well the nurse said I might go and see the appointments clerk to see if they can reschedule in the next two weeks that way you won't ruin your Fluid diet and just do another two weeks and she comes back to say there are no appointments for the next 2 weeks so just continue eating normal. I'm just now waiting to hear from them I'm losing my motivation to be honest. I've lost a month of income in the process jeopardising my position in my job, and who's to pay for all the losses and damage in the process? all they do is send you a message apologising! it's just not good enough.

Hi all - I'm booked in for sleeve surgery on Thursday this week, so am currently on Day 12 of the liver shrinking diet. It's the third time I've been on the diet as my first two surgery dates were cancelled due to covid (my surgeon caught it, and then I caught it!) so I'm pretty used to it all by now! Just keeping everything crossed that there aren't any problems this time and it all goes ahead on Thursday!

Congratulations to everyone on here who has had their surgery, and sympathy to all those who are still on the pre-op diets! So inspiring to hear all your stories, and hopefully I'll be sharing my recovery updates soon too! xx

Thanks for your well wishesπŸ™ we all need it I think, I've been cancelled second time was due yesterday for a RNY and hiatal hernia repair, well prepared! physically mentally & emotionally, I rock up at the hospital after fasting from 6 a.m. in the morning waiting for 1:30pm in my white gown and compression socks so I can be taken in by the anaesthetist. 2.30pm comes low and behold! one of the surgeon's approach me to give me the "bad news" that it's been cancelled due to covid cases resulting in no beds so second time round shatterd with disappointment (sigh)

Oh well life goes on, it is what it is, I guess everything happens for a reason.πŸ˜•

Wishing you lots of luck on Thursday with your surgery hope everything goes smooth for you and speedy recoveriesπŸ™πŸ™πŸ™β™₯️β™₯️β™₯️

Wow what a week! I had RYN on 4/14”2. I have never stop having left side pain since surgery. I was taking 4,000 mg of Tylenol a day to survive. I was getting my Protein and Water in most days. I had went back to liquids on Wednesday 5/4/22, as puree just didn’t set well. I was running a fever at times. Reached out to my surgeon on Friday 5/6 nurse called me back and said as soon as she hears from him I’ll call you back and never got any call back. Sunday 5/8 morning while driving home I had this extreme pain and almost wrecked my car. I decided enough, I can’t take it anymore and went to the ER. I had accumulated Fluid on my abdomen and a UTI. They did two CT scans I wasn’t leaking from my bowel. Took several bags of Fluid. IV antibiotics and lots of pain meds. Waiting for radiology To place a drain I felt like death. I hurt so bad. Monday 5/9 My surgeon came and said is everything would be ok. I’m not leaking at any surgical site. We will get the fluid off and you will be just fine. I asked him about the 103 fever he did seem concerned but we have double antibiotics and your blood cultures are negative. Monday Tuesday and Wednesday and Got Calcium and potassium blouses. I got Iron twice to not need a blood transfusion. The edema redness and pain was now from by belly button to almost my spine from my hip up to to mid rib cage. They placed a drain on Tuesday,To date it’s at 500 ml drained out mostly pus. A lot of prayer and medical interventions got me where I wanted to be.. home!!! Back to liquid diet ,a drain and antibiotics. I think I’m headed in the right direction. I at least feel human again and very minimal pain today.
    That’s the long story
Short story is the drain site was infected which is a risk of surgery especially on the bowel.

    LISTEN TO YOUR BODY PEEPS!!!
As a NP I over and under analyze everything to the point my doctor told me β€œStacey I am the doctor and you’re the patient can you at least try to be a patient?” I just laughed because I honestly needed to hear that!

Woww Stacey πŸ™ So sad to hear your ordeal about the infection. Hope your feeling better now. I've arrived at the hospital having an RNY + hernia repair today. Just reading all that you've been through my nerves are getting tenser hope all goes well πŸ™πŸ™

And all the best to you sending hugs and positive vibes your way β™₯οΈπŸ™

Hope that everyone else is doing well.

I had my RNY done last Monday. While the surgeon did that he also repaired a hernia for me. Afterwards the pain was horrid. I was put on a drip and not allowed to walk because my blood pressure went lower than normal. It took until Thursday until I felt reasonable and I went home Friday. When I went home my legs were horribly swollen from the drip. Thank goodness they were remarkably improved by the next day.

I have been up and looking after myself but mostly watching Netflix. Tomorrow is the first day of soft food. Mushed up baked Beans here I come. :)

    Hi Possum,

Sorry to hear that your pain was really bad and your blood pressure and swelling it's good to know you're recovering now, sending many hugs and well-wishesβ™₯️β™₯️

Today is my surgery day for a RNY + hiatal hernia repair now I'm hearing all this my nerves are getting worse as the surgery gets closer hope all goes well just woke up with 4 hours sleep doing last minute preps.

All the best to you πŸ™β™₯️

What was the name of the Dr who resleeved you and how much did it cost?

Sent from my SM-G991U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Hi Nina,

Although I'm from a Turkish background, I didn't have the courage to go overseas to get this surgery done bc if any complication arises the doctors here in Australia are hesitant about treating somebody else's mistake. So I just bit the bullet and decided to have it here in Australia, I've heard a lot of success stories from people who have had it in Turkey. It's good to hear yours whent well too! Hope everything works out for you in the long run, πŸ™My surgery is tomorrow I have butterflies in my stomach nerves are flying high lol I'm hoping it goes well as I'm having a hiatal hernia repair and a gastric bypass.

    All the best to everyoneπŸ™πŸ™

My RNY is on the 24th.

Was originally going to get a VSG but after an endoscopy, the doc thinks my GERD is worse on my body than the way I feel about it. Convinced me that I would probably be horrendously suffering from acid if I went with the VSG.

Also going to repair my hiatal hernia and after doing a nuclear scan going to pull out my gallbladder.

    Wheeeee....

Started my pre-op diet on the 10th.

I'm jealous of all your pre-op diets. I get two weeks of 20oz non-fat milk 3x a day. 50oz of other liquids a day - Water, broth, Decaf tea or coffee.

On day five and it's really not all that bad. Doc's literature said this type of diet activated the body's hunger suppresant. And I'm really surprised how.... well, I am hungry, but I'm not as hungry as I would have thought.

Anyway, nervous and excited at the same time. I'm sure you've all felt that same way.

I'm also very nervous as I'm scheduled for a hiatal hernia repair and a Roux-en-Y tomorrow, finally the day has come! after being cancelled once due to covid cases taking up all the beds.. can't wait to get all this over and done with and and be my path to my new journey!

πŸ™πŸ˜ŠAll the best to you keep us posted on how you go.

    😊😊😊😊

Fingers crossed for you, Merill. I hope the numbers stay low or go away altogether and you get the procedure.
You made me laugh πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£β€¦I go to the beach for two hours and I bring the same amount of stuff as if I was going for a week. My stuff is my stuff.
    Keep me posted!

So far so good no cancellation as yet and if I don't get a call on Sunday then I'm all good to go😁

I've sent my son and pet to my daughters house and just doing little things around the house like drenching my plants in Water taking care of other little things here in there I guess this is what they call nestingπŸ˜„

And tomorrow I will do my personal prep care like manicure and pedicure and get my luggage ready😁😁😁😁

Sleeved yesterday and doing GREAT! My anesthesiologist gave me a nerve block and also put an anti-nausea patch behind my ear that is supposed to last 3 days! So I’ve had zero nausea or vomiting- so far. Pain has been very tolerable after the first 4-5 hrs from surgery. So far I’ve managed to drink Water, apple juice and chicken broth without issue. Not much has pain . Feeling very fortunate and looking forward to going home.

Oh wow congratulations wishing you a speedy recovery I'm due on Monday fingers crossed lots of hugs from this end😊β™₯οΈπŸ™

I completely agree. Between my skin care regimen and my make-up, i'll probably only leave the false eyelashes at home. I bring extra clean undies for a day trip just about anywhere.

    Seriously.

Oh yes Marianne that's without a doupt my end as well, I never leave the house without my makeup bag lol

On the other hand my nerves are quite tense today, butterflies in my stomach as the day gets closer. I've had a few confirmation calls from the hospital and they didn't neglect to mention that it can be cancelled on the day depending on the covid cases in emergency. I think it just started to sink in that it's really happening.

I'm so hoping that we don't get cancelled againπŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Oh, right! lol...probably some deodorant, too, and fresh underwear!

But, won't the hospital provide whatever food/beverages I'm allowed while I am there?

That's what I would have thought as well regarding the shakes, but nevertheless I would still pack in a couple of sachets just in case.

And personally I would definitely be packing in more than just a toothbrush and toothpaste lol

Like extra nighty or pj's, a gown, toiletries, hair dryer, hair brushes, phone charger.

As you never know what to expect whilst in hospital with post op, as complications can arise resulting in longer stay.

Hi, merill! I’ll be thinking of you on the 16th!
And you are right! It’s never too late for anything! I married the love of my life when I was 40. We have 3 kids (23, 21 and 21). I only started thinking about this surgery in January of this year, but that’s fine. I’m very excited about this, I may be 67 chronologically but in my head, I’m much younger.
Keep me posted and good luck! ❀️

Hi Marianne, age is just a number it's what you feel that matters😊 Congratulations on finding your true love not all of us are that fortunate! and if you feel this is the right time for you to look after yourself then you're on the right track! I'm 56 and have been a single mum of 3 for 23 years myself and I never thought of remarrying as I divoted myself to raising my kids now they're 35 33 and 27 and I have a grandchild as wellβ™₯️ who knows I may find true love too one day lol

hi, and welcome. I'm 67 and hoping for bypass and hernia repair in mid-june. I meet with my surgeon for what they call the Results (from pre-procedure testing) Visit on may 16. I am hoping that I can be given a date for surgery at that visit.

What someone told you here is what I have been told regarding post surgery eating plan, BUT I do know that it all depends on one's healing.

I wish I had done this about 10 years when the lbs started coming on, the weight fluctuation began, and no matter what I did, I did not lose.

    Good luck!

I say the same thing to myself Marianne, I wish I had done this many years ago after I stopped having kids and ended up with all the pounds after birth! but I guess nothing is too late there is a reason for everything happening in our lives, I guess the time is NOW!

I wish you all the best with your surgery as mine is due soon fingers crossed, they said on the 16th of May IF beds are available from covid patients! Lol

Please keep me posted with your surgery and all the best.
