Anyone seeing Dr John Weaver at Denver Center for Bariatric Surgery??
SleeveToBypass2023 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Looking to see if anyone is having, or has had, their surgery here. My surgery date is May 5th and I'm so excited!!! I love my coordinator Grace and the dietician Hilary there, and even though I only saw Dr Weaver once he was really nice and patient and went over everything with me. My surgery is at Rose Medical Center, and I've never been there. Hoping someone on here has and can tell me about it. -

Did you ever find out if they were covered? I also have BCBS. -

What insurance do you have? I have BCBS of Illinois, and I also have MS. I know once I've reached my goal weight I'm going to have to get the skin removed or else it'll make my back and mobility have issues. It never occurred to me that I could get insurance to cover any of it. -
Feeling kind of devastated…

So how are you doing? It's been almost a month since your first post. Are you liking your look any better? Are you still in a lot of pain? -
Disappointed

My husband's A1c is 13 and his surgeon won't even think about surgery until he gets it below 9. Mine was 6.9 (I cut out ALL sugar for 3 months and it took it from 8.4 to 6.9 so my doctor is thrilled and I was approved). My husband's doctor told him it's because a high A1c means the body is unstable, and it puts more stress on other organs. Doing a major surgery with the body like that is a recipe for disaster. Did you ever get it rechecked? Did you get to have your surgery yet? -
I have BCBS of Illinois (PPO) and I live in Colorado and work remotely. Everything here is covered and I don't have to go to any other state for anything. Definitely set up your BCBS insurance portal. You can find doctors in your network on there. If you can't, definitely call customer service.

My surgeon said in general, sleeve patients lost about 10% less weight than gastric bypass. But he also said that's the average. He said he has seen patients who are really motivated and disciplined actually lost the same or even a little more. Depends a lot on the person.

I have BCBS of Illinois and medicaid as a secondary insurance. What I was told is that the actual doctor visits and surgery are covered by my primary insurance and medicaid covers what they won't (not for the surgery itself, but for the copays and deductibles). I have about $1500 I have to pay for my deductible and out of pocket expense, and medicaid is paying all but $150 of it. So my actual out of pocket costs are $150 for the sleeve. Not bad (I live in Colorado, so their medicaid is amazing).

So I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. My doctor submitted my paperwork on March 30th and I had my approval on April 1st. I'm not kidding. Nobody has ever seen it go that fast.
