    September surgery buddies!!

So glad to hear that it gets better! I, too, tried the badass route and it didn’t go so well. I ran out of my pain med supply yesterday, had a rough night then tried to go to work (office job) today. WRONG. I called my surgeon for another round of meds and I’m back home now after a half day at work. By lunchtime, I was hunched over trying not to stress my incisions and praying I could make it to the car without screaming. I’m going to stay down a couple of more days. I definitely think a full week of rest is needed! My surgery was 9/9 so I’ll try to go back to work 9/15 or 16 - maybe.

    post-op protein

Thanks for your question - my sleeve was 9/9/22 and I, too, am really struggling with pain and getting all my goals. I like Premier Protein - pre made shakes are okay - but my favorite is their chocolate powder which I put in milk (usually 4oz at a time). It’s nice to be able to control the amount. I find that anything that’s more than 4oz is too much and just makes me feel overwhelmed. Good luck on your journey!

I take 4 sips from the 1oz cup with about 3-5 minutes between each sip. I came home and took a usual gulp from an Evian bottle and it made me scream out. It is learning a whole new way do eating/drinking!

    September surgery buddies!!

I’m day 3 post-op and I’m barely making the liquid goals 1 oz at a time. I have a checklist and I literally tick them off each time. Day 1 I slept a lot. Day 2 was a lot of pain. Today is a little soreness and trying to get cream soup or some protein shake down is pretty tough. I was surprised at how little I can drink….no kidding but it is TINY SIPS out of a 1oz plastic cup otherwise the esophagus and stomach spasm like the dickens. I plan to start adding protein supplements to my soups starting tomorrow.

    September surgery buddies!!

Well, that definitely helps me! I just got the call that I have to be at the hospital at.....wait for it......4:45AM. So, I guess they are having me stay all day rather than doing the overnight thing. I may not sleep tonight - I have to drink my pre surgery drink one hour before arrival - pretty sure that's the middle of the night LOL! Thanks for the feedback - I'll look for more updates from you. Hope all is well.

I just turned 53 and I'm right there with you! When my doc asked, "have you been heavy your whole adult life?", I realized that the answer was YES. I had never even thought about it in those terms before. Even with losing 30 lbs here, 70 lbs there just to gain them back, I still could only answer YES....I've read lots of books and this forum is SO GOOD. Good luck on your journey!

    September surgery buddies!!

Here we go! Started clear liquid pre-op diet today for surgery tomorrow (time TBD but likely early morning). I so appreciate all that have reported on their experiences - I’m getting a little more nervous by the hour. 😨 My doc does it outpatient but it sounds like everyone else has had at least a night in hospital?? That’s also making me nervous, like maybe I will have trouble at home and should be in the hospital. I’m going to check some other threads and see if outpatient is normal. Thinking of everyone pre-op (good luck to you!) and all that have already gone (hope you are having and/or continuing an easy recovery!). I’ll report back on how it all goes tomorrow!

Make sure you are eating enough protein. I found my energy low when I hasn’t eaten enough calories (by way of protein). Hang I there!! Btw congrats on the 11lbs - that’s awesome! 👏 👏

I bought the same organizer! Might as well be cute if we have to have a strict vitamin regimen

    September surgery buddies!!

I'm 5 days through week 1 of pre-op...it was a little rocky day 1 & 2 but not unbearable. I drank a ton of iced tea (I’ve always enjoyed unsweet so that was no big deal) to stave off any nasty caffeine headaches...however, the sugar/carb withdrawal headache blows pretty badly anyway! I even managed to eat out a couple of times with my family...sticking very closely to the amounts/ingredients suggested on my diet plan. As many have suggested for real life after WLS, having a protein bar and tea/water on me at all times was a lifesaver and helped keep me from making bad choices. I worked on not letting myself get hungry and I find that 5 days later, I’m actually hungry less...if that makes any sense?! Good luck all and especially those about to go to liquid pre-op!!
