I am in phase 3 (soft foods) I don't remember all the macro allowances but fat is 13g max! DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD AND PRETTY MUCH IMPOSSIBLE THAT IS???? Unless you live off of fish it is nearly impossible! Which I am not a big fan of but I do get it in sometimes, tuna and mahi is pretty much it though. Yesterday I ate: Fairlife protein shake 2oz Turkey breast/light cheese on a tiny tortilla roll up 4oz Ground turkey breast taco/ light cheese on a tiny tortilla roll up (This was my largest meal so far, I actually ate it in 2 sessions. lol) I had 23g fat yesterday! I know most of it comes from the cheese (even light cheese) but shesh! Even if I had passed on ALL of the cheese (which was only 1.5 servings total) I still would have had 18g fat. Stage 4 and "normal life" it goes up to I think 20g so it will be a little easier. Any pointers? I am going to reach out to my nutritionist also because I don't see him for another 3 weeks.

These are in water. I don't do the oil either. Gross and slimy.

Can you ever drink soda again after surgery
kcuster83 replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ultimately you can do anything you want after surgery, and reap the benefits / consequences. Every surgery center, surgeon and team have different rules and regulations. I would say follow what they tell you. After all if you can trust them to cut into your body, you should be able to trust them to guide you thru the rest of the process. Some say a hard NEVER NO, some say yes. Mine recommends against it basically because it makes you full and you need to be full of better things. I personally know 5 people who had WLS, 4 drink carbonation (soda) and 1 does not. They all have different levels of success and/or failures. Only 1 of them have hit their goal and maintained it for about 6 years now and she is the one who does NOT drink carbonation. But she drink alcohol regularly so who knows what's "right or wrong". I guess we all need to just find what works for us to be the healthiest happiest version of ourselves. I used to drink diet coke everyday, at least 1 a day. I stopped before surgery to prepare myself. I am not saying I will never have another one but I will hold off as long as possible and likely won't until I hit my maintenance. Who knows if I will even want it or like it if I do try it. Right now, I have no urge or want for it so I am not worried about it yet. -
These are great too, they have a bunch of flavors. It is a little less per package but I get the for $1.25 a pack so very inexpensive too.

Yep- everyone like what they like. I did have such high hopes for it!

Just do the best you can. My team says you should be hitting goals by 2 weeks. I just kept track and made sure I beat yesterdays goal even my 1g or 1oz every day until all a sudden I was hitting my goals. You definitely have to drink constantly at first to hit it though. Luckily I had bought a new couch (with recliners) and it came in the weekend before I had surgery so I had a new comfy recliner to sleep on for a few days. Took me about a week to be able to lay flat and then I laid on my side with a pillow holding my belly up so it didn't "pull" to make it more comfortable. After a few days of that I was sleeping normal but toss and turned a lot like I couldn't stay in the same position too long. 4 weeks out, I am good with sleep now probably since week 3. It sucks in the beginning, but it really does get better quick. Good luck and keep it up.

Confused by Consult
kcuster83 replied to Imortalcandy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm, that is completely opposite from what I learned from my surgeon and everyone in support groups and forums just by reading and listening to people's stories. I would try to have a consult with another surgeon. I had SEVERE GERD before surgery, so bad I have extensive damage to my esophagus that had to be repaired during surgery. I went into my first apt. with my surgeon with plans of getting sleeve. He explained both surgeries in depth and then explained why the sleeve was not a good choice for me. Mainly was because of the GERD and a high amount of patients end up with some to a ton of acid problems with the sleeve, secondly because I wanted to loose so much weight that the malabsorption would assist in that more so than just the restriction. he asko explained that the hatial hernia repair and the bypass would likely eliminate the GERD if not completely, very likely to get it under control. I was on 2 prescriptions meds and eating tums every day and still, vomiting fireballs half the time. I am 4 weeks post op and I am now only taking a pepcid prescription which everyone takes for a while after surgery to lower the risk of ulcers, but better yet I have had ZERO acid problems. I mean NONE! I know it is still early, but I am starting to get back to a regular diet, even eating some hot sauces from time to time and still no issues. I have high hopes. Honestly, even if I have to take meds I would be completely satisfied as long as they completely controlled it with the meds. This is just my experience and everyones is different. But I truely believe his information is incorrect based on years of research and what I have learned. But I am no professional. -
My team says to get up to a cup of food per meal over time. But, regardless of how much you have eaten, stop when you are full. I am only 4 weeks out, so I am around a half a cup and usually can't finish it.
-
I wish, haha. It is per day. But, I got in touch with my nutritionist yesterday, he said it is there just to make you aware and paying attention. I shared a bunch of my meals and he assured me I am doing perfect and not to stress about it.

I hated it, couldn't even stand the smell.

Hello and congratulations on starting the process. Tell them everything, ask them everything. They should make you feel comfortable. They can't wipe away your anxiety but they can ensure you of your concerns and unknowns. Which should provide it's own level of comfort. Good luck!

Food Before and After Photos
kcuster83 replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Gotcha, well you are making salads right. They all always look so delicious too! I just can't wait to eat salads again. -
For my liquid phase I bought a bunch of different soups and just strained them and drinking only the broth. other people ate the Plain broth is so bland and bone broth is disgusting! I was told any strained soups were ok. Even creamed but that they should be low fat creamed soups. Every program is different though.

ooo sounds good, I will have to check them out on my next grocery trip. Thanks! I love Gardein spicy black bean burgers too!

Gall Bladder problems After VSG?
kcuster83 replied to Crisscat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Same here, I was prescribed that also. Not till 4 weeks post op though so I just started it. -
I have always drank a ton of water. Upwards of 100oz a day. I peed all the time. Once I had surgery, I never pee. I mean I do, but just a few times a day. I am drinking about 70oz or more of water a day right now but it is like now my body needs and absorbs every drop instead of just peeing it out. I thought it was interesting to see the difference.

I completely understand. You have to do what makes you feel safe and comfortable.
-
I don't think it is a "so what" as in they don't care. I think it is more of in a pinch of being a medical emergency that these things won't kill you. So, "so what" if you end up getting a dose or two as long as you aren't doing it long term you will be fine. Where as someone allergic to some type of medication, may actually die. It is just a very different risk and urgency to make your medical team aware of a life and death situation. I do understand trying to follow everything to a "T" though.

Yes, I have those an air fryer and non stick pans. I don't add fat to anything unless I am making a huge recipe of something and it calls for a little, even then I try to cut it back, remove it or substitute. I got in touch with my nutritionist yesterday, he said it is there just to make you aware and paying attention. I shared a bunch of my meals and he assured me I am doing perfect and not to stress about it.

My team says bariatric vitamins only after surgery. I know a lot of people just take regular multi vitamins and are fine though, I guess it depends on what your body needs. With that being said, there are less expensive options of the bariatric vitamins than here though.
-
Yea, I was given 1 oz cups and told to get AT LEAST 3 sips out of it. It only lasted a few days and then I could drink the 1oz cup in 1 sip.
-
I bought an air fryer before surgery but struggle to use it. I have only made potatoes in it. (before surgery)
-
I ate ketchup for the first time Monday since surgery, regular ketchup. 1 serving, on a black bean burger with no bun. It was perfecccttt. Nothing happened. I was fine. (4 weeks post op) I haven't had anything fried yet, but I am still fresh. I know I will though. Like you said, a few at a time once in a while.

The brand I get is good. 60cals a serving. Honestly I don't know the sugar because I never worried about sugars before surgery and haven't had it since. I will definitely check before I start using it again, like everything else. Now that you bring it up, what is with people and Ketchup? It has 2g per serving and people act like it will kill them to eat it. Pay 5x as much for sugar free? Is that 2 grams really making a difference in the day to day? Or do people eat way more ketchup than I realized?
