  1. Hi, all: I started out on the April surgery buddies board. However, my Results visit with my surgeon is Monday, May 16, and I am looking for a surgery date of 6/13. School will be out, and I won't have to stress about recovering.
I'm particularly interested in reading surgery and recovery experiences. I've amassed a large amount of useful information in the short amount of time I have been here.
My surgeon's admin told me yesterday that many of his patients choose to start the liver shrinking diet 2 weeks prior to their Results visit which is about a week away. That would put me on liver shrinking eating plan for about 6 weeks which doesn't really interest me, and my nutritionist said that might be difficult to sustain. I agree.
I may try something rather modified until the 5/16 visit, and follow my doctor's instructions regarding a liquid diet and a time frame for that.
    Good luck to everyone here.
PS: FTR, my Protein Shake of choice is FairLife chocolate, and I do like the Gatorade Zero Protein Drinks.

I am happy to hear you finally have your surgery date. Don't stress over any of it and just follow what your doc suggests. My surgery and recovery have gone extremely well. I did hit a stall for a week in my weight loss but am doing all according to plan and it will turn around. I pray all will go as well for you.

  2. Ok my question goes with this, I think. My surgery was 4/4. I was weighing everyday and that was not helping out. So today was the first week I waited a week in between and I just stayed the same weight. Is this normal, has this happened to other people? I didn’t think I would stop losing weight so early. I lost 15 lbs before and 15 lbs after. Does anyone have a similar situation?
My surgery was April 6 and I am going through the same thing. We just have to keep doing what we are supposed to do and eventually it will pass, but it sure is agravating!

    Interesting...

I've had the complete opposite experience.

Had surgery Monday. Weighed 355 in the hospital right before it (and after 3 days of liquid diet). Got out of the hospital on Wednesday. Weighed 348 on Thursday night, and then I weighed 337 this morning. Hope I'm not dehydrated.

Everyone's bodies work at different rates. I did gain 5 pounds after surgery, but have lost ten pounds since home. Surgery was April 6

Hi! My surgery was on 4/4/2022 so I'm 6 days post op today. I was sent home with 28 days worth of Lovenox injections to prevent blood clotting. I understand how important they are and 100% plan on doing what I need to do with them, however, I am bruising up after some of the injections. I already have the bruises from the incisions which look ROUGH, but I feel like these bruises might be contributing to the chaos that is my torso right now. I also saw in the side effects and papers about the injections to contact the doctor if you start to bruise, but it's listed as a "minor side effect" and I don't feel sick or anything from it so I've kept on with them and will say something to her at my 1 week post op visit tomorrow.

Did anyone have these injections as well and if so, did you have any issues using them or reactions to them?

I had my sleeve surgery on April 6 and have two weeks of lovenox to take. I take the shots in my thighs and have had no bruising..

True story: I am very self conscious and have had people make rude comments. I have been walking in my home for a starting time of 5 min and now 15. My dog follows and sometimes I talk to him as I walk just to be silly. It beats the treadmill experience by a long shot. Soon I will add another lil activity like a sugar in the wall or a lil stair step. Next week I am doing my first social walk with some women in a Meet Up group.

Great job on being up to 15 minutes. I wish I had a walking buddy. Maybe I can find one at our bariatric meetings. My hubby already walks over 11,000 steps at work each day, so he is not really wanting to walk more.

Ugh! I hate that people are rude and unkind. 😢 I’m a Special Ed teacher and sadly the unkindness never ceases to amaze me. 😢 Good for you, though, having a plan to get out there. I’ve used YouTube for walking videos…I think the woman’s name was Leslie Sansone. If I couldn’t get out, she could get me moving. People on here have mentioned online videos that they like. I stumbled on those doing a search for ‘tracking steps.’

Leslie Sansone is great. I am thinking at first her videos will be too much. I just need gentle walks until the incisions heal. Great recommendation though!

So, you are feeling well? Even with the hernia repair? I’m so happy for you! Keep me posted on how you are doing please. I’m going back and forth between waiting till school is out in June OR taking a surgery date earlier. It’s the hernia repair that is making me waver. Keep up the good work! ❤️

I'm really doing incredibly well. I haven't felt much like walking much, but told myself I am getting up and going out in the morning. Not much of an outdoor walker. Maybe I will get better at it. To be honest, I have had rude people comment on my weight in public, which keeps me out of the public eye, but I live in a quiet condo area with little street traffic, so I hope to go early and not feel too self conscious. I will stick close to my condo anyway to start.

You won't need your c-pap, they'll regulate your levels for you (or a least they should). Praying for a healthy and new you.... Happy New-Birthday

I was told to bring my CPAP and the anesthesiologist said it was best I did and too use it even when just napping. I am home now and doing great.

    Hi there,

My surgery is tomorrow and I am just winding up the mostly liquid diet from the past two weeks. Could also snack on veggies, so it wasn't too bad. I was able to use Premier Protein shakes and there were lots of tasty flavors, so I could mix it up and not get bored.

Hey Tracy, I'm in Michigan and my surgery is tomorrow too. When is your surgery and what city are you in? I'm in Livonia

  10. Okay April 6 th surgery peeps, our day is tomorrow! I'm excited, antsy, nervous, and rarin' to go! Doing a load of laundry now, washing my security blanket/poncho/robe to take. Washing my CPAP so it's ready to go with too, washing my body tonight ,lol, with the special soap for the third night in a row. Wedding rings removed and all other jewelry. Grabbing charging cord and phone and tablet to take too. Just waiting for call to verify surgery time. Right now, scheduled for 9:45am. How are the rest of you doing?

  11. Kimmy Kaye, I find it easier for me to not be distracted when I'm at work. When I'm at home I just keep staring at the goldfish crackers on top of the fridge begging me to eat them. LMAO. [emoji4] I'm glad I have someone going through it the same day as me. [emoji4] Keep in touch okay?

Absolutely, and mine is the cheezits staring at me. Lol. Bad thing is, I work from home. Lol

  12. Random question for those who have already gone through the surgery. How do you take your Vitamins on an empty stomach? If I take vitamins on an empty stomach it makes me sick to my stomach and I don't want to risk that right out of surgery. Any suggestions?
You can ask your nutritionist. I know our program starts you on a children's chewable at day 4 after surgery. That continues until week four and then you still take but add B12 Calcium and D. Each program will vary

  13. Surgery is wednesday. I'm on day 6 of 7 pre op liquid diet and it's gotten much easier. The first two or three days were rough but its better now. I find when I drink my Protein Drinks that that fills me up pretty well and I drink the broth for dinner because it relaxes me for bed and then snack on Jello and popsicles if I want. It was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. I'm getting anxious for surgery but I'm so ready. I'm down 10 lbs just 5 days in this pre op liquid diet!!!! I haven't seen this number in a long long time and I'm really happy!
I'm doing about the same thing for my liquid phase. Just one more day to get thru work!

I am having surgery on Wednesday April 6th. I just started my 7 day pre op liquid diet and I am already miserable at the end of day 1. All I can think about is a crunch wrap supreme. I think 7 days is a little excessive but that's probably just my food addiction talking.

I've been on a 1000 calorie diet for a week now and I am amazed that I haven't felt all that deprived. Tomorrow, I start the all liquid diet, still at 1000 calories per day. I am thankful it is only for 3 days for me. Took my COVID test yesterday. Taco Bell commercials get me every time but I remind myself the food is never as good as it looks in their ads. Lol. Helps a little!

I see you are in MO so we will actually be having surgery on the same day very near the same time. My daughter's name is Jessica and was born in 1987. Small world. I hope all goes well for you. Which surgery are you having?

Just got my date… 4/25! Excited and even more nervous now. Plus a new slew of appointments and meetings. Anyone have tips on calming my nerves? I’m fine now but the closer I get I fear I’ll start to panic 😂

Just focus on getting prepared and on how great you will feel a year from now! You will do great, we all will! One week until my surgery on April 6
