  1. It is raining heavily almost everyday here and my trusty "big guy" umbrella broke. Then I remembered that I had a smaller foldable umbrella that fits nicely in my bag. I started using it without any issues. The last time I used it, it won't cover my whole body and I had to choose which side or my body to get wet haha. My body diameter has shrunken for sure.

  2. I'm one year and 2 months out from MGB. I had my surgery in Egypt (self paid) end of January 2022. Starting weight 149 kg, current weight 78.8 kg (this morning). This forum has been a huge help for me since I did the surgery without any proper research which is not something that I'd usually do but I was really frustrated and fed up with trying to lose weight and not getting any lasting results.

I'm not currently following any specific diet and I eat whatever I want (in very small quantities) - please don't tell my doctor haha. I eat my Protein first, followed by vegetables and salad and then carbs if I'm still not full. I take 1/2 teaspoon of sugar with my morning coffee. Of course, I had to follow the program that was given to me after the surgery.

I had a long stall for the past 3 months or so but luckily I'm losing again since I started fasting (the fasting month started 14 days ago). My current target is 70 kg (I'm 170 cm tall) and I can't wait to lose the last 9 kgs.

I got a mountain bike when I was 120 kg and have been riding it around my house which helped with the weight loss. The longest distance for me was 8 km. It has been raining almost every night here and I've not been able to use the bike for almost 3 months or so.Hopefully the weather will improve soon. I'm working in a remote town and there is a small gym here. I'm to check it out next month.

Here is a photo of me around 2013 that I found while organizing my laptop folders vs me this morning. Needless to say, life is getting better and better overall and I can't wait to try all the things that I've not been able to do because of my weight.

Work with Ese at times and the first time I was running with a student and keeping up and not dying I almost passed out from shock thar my body could do that now.

That is awesome. I think I'm still trapped in the obese person mentality. For instance, I was hesitant to climb on a ladder that is rated for 100 kg and eventually did. I was recently asked to participate in some of the games during my son's school sport day and I said maybe later. After seeing some of father who are around my weight or heavier doing it, I joined and we even got the first place in one of the games. My son was super happy. Guess who is going the 200m run in the next sports day 😁

Congrats! The final couple of kilos came off surprising quickly for me, though I think that's how it felt because I wasn't paying much attention to the scale at that point. And I absolutely know the feeling of weighing less than you ever have as an adult. I haven't been under 70kg since I was a young teen. It's a trip!

Thanks! Avoiding the scale sounds like a good thing to do at this stage. I think I'm going to keep the batteries of mine in the office. Otherwise I'll be weighing myself non-stop 🤣

  5. I've not lost any significant weight over the past two months or so. The scale barely moved down from 83 kg but I noticed some changes on my measurements. The clothes that I bought three months ago are loose now but not to the point that I have to buy new ones.

I didn't weigh myself for almost 10 days and you can imagine my excitement when I saw the number on the scale

I can't remember the last time I was below 80 kg. Maybe in my early teens. I'm now 9 kg away from my target and I can't wait to shed those. Fasting certainly helped break the stall for me. I hope to lose 5 kg more in the remaining 20 days of the fasting month.

  6. I can totally relate. I've been on an extended stall for almost 3 months now. The weight loss is minimal to none at all. But I read somewhere that the rate of weight loss will decrease as you get closer to target. I noticed that I've started to lose weight again after I started fasting since last week. I hope it is not just Water loss. I'm targeting to come out at least 5 kg less after the end of the fasting month.

It can be frustrating but our bodies have their own way to adjust. Have you noticed any changes on the sizes? My measurements have gone down despite not losing weight.

  7. I was at the mall yesterday and saw them putting some shorts and T-shirts on display. One year ago I'd have taken a look and wished I could wear those. Not this time haha. I went in and got my first shorts in more than 30 years. It feels strange but awesome lol.

I'm now wearing size 33" pants (52" before WLS) and M/L T-Shirt (5XL before WLS) which was a nice surprise. No longer going to the beach wearing jeans after this 😃.

  8. I think it is normal to feel scared and worried. Try to relax and occupy yourself with things that you like and hopefully that will take your mind off the surgery.

I had my surgery (mini gastric bypass) a year ago and thankfully everything went smoothly with no major complications. This was my first surgery so I went in without any prior experience. I watched some videos on YouTube to be prepared tho. They put a cannula in my arm and it was used for the anesthesia and the IVs afterwards. I was on pain killers for the first few days while in the hospital and the pain was generally tolerable. The only discomfort I felt was because of the drains and I felt much better after they were removed on the third day.

Good luck and I hope all goes well with you. Think about your health and how you will look like after the WLS. That always helps

Hello everyone! I’m new here. I’m 41 and I’ve been struggling with my weight for about 10 years now. I looked into getting the sleeve January 2022 when I was at my highest weight of 260 lbs. I decided that I would try to lose on my own and would revisit the idea of surgery if I was unsuccessful. In that year I managed to lose 20 lbs. This January I started researching again because I am determined to get back to a healthy weight. I went through an online seminar and decided to make my consultation appointment after I was diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri and was told that weight loss can help alleviate the symptoms and I can stop taking the medication that I am taking for it. I have a host of other health issues and I’m hoping the weight loss can help me feel better physically. I had my consultation a week ago and my appointments with the nutritionist and physical therapist have been scheduled and I completed my initial bloodwork. I do not have to complete a medically supervised weight loss program and I spoke with my insurance company and was notified that the most I’ll need to pay out of pocket is $1300. I’m excited and nervous about what’s to come.

Good luck. Deciding to have the WLS in January 2022 was the best decision I've made in 40 years. I've paid the full cost of the WLS since my insurance doesn't cover such surgeries and I'd do again in a heartbeat. Money well spent.

  10. As part of the company HSE regulations we need to attend a training on confined space entry every two years. I did mine today. The training consists of two parts - a presentation followed by a demo where two employees need to demo the application of the rules etc. One gets to be the "authorized entrant" and go inside a 60 cm manhole and navigate the small space, retrieve something etc and the other guy waits outside and becomes the "standby person". I was always the standby person but not today. Previously they would assign me the role without asking. I volunteered to be the entrant and we got the highest score! Win win

How is your relationship with food post op ?

I’ve always depended on food to fill my emotions when I was depressed or anxious. I absolutely hate it but I am worried about I am going to handle my stress and anxiety after surgery. I want to be healthy and to feel good and not hate whenever people take any pictures of me or hide behind everyone in photos. Go out with my boyfriend and friends and family. :( it’s been so hard because of my weight gain. My sisters had a great dinner with my mom the other day and I didn’t go I missed out on memories because of how nothing fits. So I understand my relationship with food is something I am willing to give up. Especially for my health.

I would say my relationship with food has improved a lot but that took some time. I'm one year post op and now I focus more on the quality of food rather than the quantity. I was just devouring my food before the WLS but now I seem to savor and enjoy food better. For instance, if we go out to have burger - I'll ask for a burger with less cheese, sauces etc and swap the fries with salad if possible. I will also eat the patty and leave the bread. I'd share the dessert with my wife, just one spoon and I'm satisfied. I also don't keep any junk food at home. If I get the urge to eat something, I will eat a cucumber with lime and salt and that will satisfy the cravings.

My advice to you - Focus on losing weight for now and enjoy the little victories you achieve along the way and you will soon be able to join your family for meals etc but in a healthier way. Good luck

Isn’t it wonderful to be able to see your real face. Cheek bones, jaw line, neck, … I even have visible lower eyelids now - they’re not being covered by droopy, puffy upper lids anymore.

You look great & yes definitely younger.

Thanks! It feel awesome. I was really worried that my face will be saggy after loosing weight but luckily no sagging so far. I feel younger too 😃
