Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Oh, one more question. I did find the slimfast low carb at walmart, 4 cans for $6.00, but realize if I'm going to be doing this long term, the pre made cans are not very economical. So, what protein powder do you all like best? I looked on another post, and it seems the GNC whey protein is popular. Dr. K seems to stress a low carb diet long term, so I'd like one with low cal, high protein, and low carb. thanks!

Rene, A 14er? You amaze me - that is fantastic! At this point I can't imagine even driving up a 14er.... how is your shoulder doing from the biking spill? Lap, thanks for sharing those old photos. Wow, what progress everyone has made. So encouraging! Can somebody teach me how to "multi quote"? I tried clicking on that button, but nothing seems to happen when I go to reply. It is storming in Denver. So much for my plans to cook out on the grill! Hmmm...must find a way to grill eggplant indoors.

I'm sure no tatt expert since I don't have one, but I do watch Miami Ink...lol.. Anyhow, if you ever had to get a new port, or your port flipped or something like that, would it mess up your artwork?- Self-pay
Dr. Kirshenbaum in Aurora, Colorado is $9950 for everything. Fills are free for the first 3 months, then $15 after that.- Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Lap, I am watching the weather in Florida constantly. I have two band buddies, Tally in Tallahassee and Christiana in Tampa who are getting their surgery done by Dr. K the same day as me. Am sure hoping they make it out ok. And, i think your idea of a November get together would be great! Can we come up and jump on the bed? lol... Deb, how is Tucker doing today? Hope he does better over the weekend. What you said sure is right, men just do NOT get it at all. That is why I"m not telling my ex. Marcy, boy aren't we all tired of hearing that same song and dance from out docs. Like we need to hear it over and over! Feel better soon. Munch, how scary. That class sounded like a fun idea, sorry you did not feel well. Mini, thanks for the support. You're right, I'm sure she will be delighted when I'm the one to suggest going skiing or on a hike, etc. Bahot, happy birthday! I'm glad you got some fun goodies. Cute butterfly. I got my post-op meds today. Tomorrow am going to get a few more things for my last couple days of low carb, and also jello, etc. for the clears phase. Denver seems so quiet now without the DNC hoopla. Have a great holiday weekend everyone. If you want to catch a movie, my daughter and I saw "Barcelona" today, that was great, a typical Woody Allen film!- Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Thanks, Prty. You are right, I hadn't thought that maybe she was concerned about the risks of the surgery, etc. And everybody does love their momma just as she is. I do have support. My neighbor is dropping me off for the procedure. My friend who is a RN is picking me up and taking me home. My daughter has class in Boulder, but will be home that evening to stay overnight with me. So, I am lucky to have lots friends and my daughter to pitch in and be there for me. I was just wanting the "yeah mom, the day is almost here!" that I did not get. But I guess that is what my band buddies are for. Thank you all.- Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Concerns about Kirshenbaum?
You are having surgery with Dr. Snyder next week. Why don't you spend your time and energy focusing on that? Once you select your surgeon, it is time to move on in the process. I met Dr. Snyder also, he could not have been nicer in answering my questions. But, I ultimately felt more comfortable with Dr. Kirshenbaum.- RN's How long did you take off work?
I am a RN, have two jobs. My doc says I can return to the desk job in 3 days (but I'm taking one week off). For my RN job doing adult med/surg he wants me to take off 4 weeks.- Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Lap, that recipe sounds great. Sorry you are suffering! I'm glad you are getting the whole meds thing straightened out, though. Prty, you are doing so great to be exercising regularly. I am proud of you, and you're right, everybody is at the gym to do their own thing. Geez with ipods and everything, you hardly even talk to other people there. Who cares if you're not a swimsuit model (yet!) Mal, I never saw your before photos, but you sure look fantastic now. Hang in there and keep doing the right things. I had dinner at a restaurant tonight with my daughter who is home from college for the weekend. I talked about being excited about my surgery on Wed., and she said "I don't know why you're doing this to yourself, but I guess it's your decision". I guess in a complimentary sort of way, she doesn't see anything wrong with me now. But I was sure wanting her support. She is built like her Dad, tall and thin, and I don't think she has any idea what it is like to be overweight. Later in the car, she said "I hope I don't have that problem later on in life". Hmmmmm. Maybe I'm just anxious and overly sensitive. I'm a single mom, and just wanted her behind me 100% on this. She knows I'm a nurse and have researched this carefully, so she does trust my judgement. Anybody else have your adult kids feel like this?- Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Green and Mini, I"m with you - everybody on the Dr. K site is so nice and welcoming. For those of you in the Denver area, where can I buy slim fast low carb? I have only seen it at Walgreens, and it was $7.50 for a 4-pack! Thanks!- Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Prty, thanks for snapping that photo of us at the Red Robin! That was fun, and it was great to meet you all. My pre-op appointment with Dr. K was this morning. All went well, so I am ready to go next Wednesday. I am getting a little tired of jello instead of fruit, but am hanging in there with the pre-op diet.- I need some anger management!
Just to set the record straight - the RNY surgery is no easy ticket to weight loss. My best friend had it in June, and it has been no picnic. She has all the same struggles that I read about here on LBT and more. I think we should support everyone who chooses the right kind of WLS for themselves.- I'm banded!
That is so great to hear. Thank you for sharing your very positive story!- Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Happy Monday everybody, Adork, no weight change for me. I think I am overdoing on the steak and cheese thing! Mal, your friend will be in good hands at Craig. Deb, thanks for the preop diet tips. See above, I just need to work on portion control. What time do you fly back on the 25th? I can meet you for dinner. Since you are getting a fill, there is a place with great soups not far from there, the Great Atlanta Bread Co. Munch, good luck with the barium swallow thing, hope it goes well. I'm also a big REO fan - grew up in Michigan so they played our area a lot Marcy, the fresh berry hunt sounds so fun Green, your family "mentioned" your hair? as in, it looks so fabulous, or why aren't you taking care of those roots? ha! I love your idea about the no foods off limits Jme, congrats on the Nov. surgery date...mine is coming up Everybody, I have a question about portions post-band: do you feel you eat about a cup or 8 oz per meal, like the articles say? or more? or less? thanks for the input. See you all Wed night at RR - do you sit in a certain spot, or do I just look for all the lovely babes together?- Port placement question
my doc said mine will be in the middle. good luck tomorrow - how exciting!!!- Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Shelbi, I'm with you about men folding laundry - love watching that or any other type of housework! Munch, Sorry your friends bailed on The Guess Who. bummer! Don't forget for your 80's outfit to have huge fluffy bangs! Party, Good for you for setting that goal. You can do it! Deb, Congrats on doing so well after surgery. That is great that you were able to enjoy a concert. I didn't realize we had such a rocking group of gals here! I did my volunteer shift this morning for the Democratic national Convention - kind of silly, just helping visitors how to figure out the public transportation to get to the various events. Again, if anybody is willing to share a sample day of their pre-op diet, I'd love to hear it. I'm running out of ideas.- Another question I didnt know to ask my Dr
The size band depends on the diameter of your stomach. A person with a higher BMI is likely to need a larger size band than a person with a lower BMI to start with. The port on the allergan band is taller than the port on the Realize band, so it depends on which brand of lap band your doctor uses. Your weight loss should not vary based on band size, it depends on your compliance, and how much saline is injected into your band over time to narrow the stoma opening.- Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
I can do red robin Wed. or Thurs night next week. What time & which one?- Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Hi Mal, Glad to see you back. I'm sorry your friend is not doing so well in the hospital. Hopefully the pneumonia will clear up soon so he can start rehab. The low carb diet is going ok. I went to the bronco game tonight and brought two turkey hotdogs (no bun), swiss cheese and some strawberries. Any tips from all of you on a sample daily diet for Dr. K's 7 day preop diet? I am getting tired of hard boiled eggs!- Non-obese Celebration
That is fantastic news - congratulations!- Checklist for the newbies
chewable vitamins chewable calcium heating pad sugar free jello sugar free pudding sugar free popsicles clear fruit juices bouillion cubes- Ask Dr. Schulman...
Dr. S., I'm concerned that many people say weight loss makes their face look older. If after weight loss my crows feet and crepey skin under the eyes gets worse, does laser treatment such as the Fraxel work?- Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Lap, Thanks for the info from that book. i have it on order at the library, but it hasn't come in yet. Brandy, What a cute puppy- my vote is for oakley, that's a cool name for a dog. If you guys do decide on a red robin night, please let me know when and where, would love to meet you all. I went to employee health today to follow up again on my back injury for my nursing job that happened in June. They still will not release me back to work. It was all I could do to restrain myself from picking up that twig of a doctor to prove that yes, I am now capable of lifting 50 pounds. Now I have to go back next week for a PT eval, and then yet another occ healt visit to review the results. And won't this be fun to be downtown during the DNC too. Aggravation! Thank heavens this is only PRN, not my full time job. - Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
