  1. You are having surgery with Dr. Snyder next week. Why don't you spend your time and energy focusing on that? Once you select your surgeon, it is time to move on in the process. I met Dr. Snyder also, he could not have been nicer in answering my questions. But, I ultimately felt more comfortable with Dr. Kirshenbaum.
  2. I am a RN, have two jobs. My doc says I can return to the desk job in 3 days (but I'm taking one week off). For my RN job doing adult med/surg he wants me to take off 4 weeks.
  3. Lap, that recipe sounds great. Sorry you are suffering! I'm glad you are getting the whole meds thing straightened out, though. Prty, you are doing so great to be exercising regularly. I am proud of you, and you're right, everybody is at the gym to do their own thing. Geez with ipods and everything, you hardly even talk to other people there. Who cares if you're not a swimsuit model (yet!) Mal, I never saw your before photos, but you sure look fantastic now. Hang in there and keep doing the right things. I had dinner at a restaurant tonight with my daughter who is home from college for the weekend. I talked about being excited about my surgery on Wed., and she said "I don't know why you're doing this to yourself, but I guess it's your decision". I guess in a complimentary sort of way, she doesn't see anything wrong with me now. But I was sure wanting her support. She is built like her Dad, tall and thin, and I don't think she has any idea what it is like to be overweight. Later in the car, she said "I hope I don't have that problem later on in life". Hmmmmm. Maybe I'm just anxious and overly sensitive. I'm a single mom, and just wanted her behind me 100% on this. She knows I'm a nurse and have researched this carefully, so she does trust my judgement. Anybody else have your adult kids feel like this?
  4. Green and Mini, I"m with you - everybody on the Dr. K site is so nice and welcoming. For those of you in the Denver area, where can I buy slim fast low carb? I have only seen it at Walgreens, and it was $7.50 for a 4-pack! Thanks!
  5. Prty, thanks for snapping that photo of us at the Red Robin! That was fun, and it was great to meet you all. My pre-op appointment with Dr. K was this morning. All went well, so I am ready to go next Wednesday. I am getting a little tired of jello instead of fruit, but am hanging in there with the pre-op diet.

    I need some anger management!

Just to set the record straight - the RNY surgery is no easy ticket to weight loss. My best friend had it in June, and it has been no picnic. She has all the same struggles that I read about here on LBT and more. I think we should support everyone who chooses the right kind of WLS for themselves.

    I'm banded!

That is so great to hear. Thank you for sharing your very positive story!
  8. Happy Monday everybody, Adork, no weight change for me. I think I am overdoing on the steak and cheese thing! Mal, your friend will be in good hands at Craig. Deb, thanks for the preop diet tips. See above, I just need to work on portion control. What time do you fly back on the 25th? I can meet you for dinner. Since you are getting a fill, there is a place with great soups not far from there, the Great Atlanta Bread Co. Munch, good luck with the barium swallow thing, hope it goes well. I'm also a big REO fan - grew up in Michigan so they played our area a lot Marcy, the fresh berry hunt sounds so fun Green, your family "mentioned" your hair? as in, it looks so fabulous, or why aren't you taking care of those roots? ha! I love your idea about the no foods off limits Jme, congrats on the Nov. surgery date...mine is coming up Everybody, I have a question about portions post-band: do you feel you eat about a cup or 8 oz per meal, like the articles say? or more? or less? thanks for the input. See you all Wed night at RR - do you sit in a certain spot, or do I just look for all the lovely babes together?

    Port placement question

my doc said mine will be in the middle. good luck tomorrow - how exciting!!!
  10. Hello September Samurais! I was wondering what supplies all of you are stocking up on now to prepare for surgery and the post-op diet? Today at Walmart I found chewable Centrum adult multivitamins for around $5. They aren't bad, taste like baby aspirin, kind of orangey. I also found Speical K vitamin water powder, yes, just the little foil pouch that you put in your own water bottle. It was 5 grams of protein, so I thought that would be a great way to get a little protein during the "clears" phase, without having to pay $1.50 a bottle. It comes in 3 flavors. I plan on digging out my heating pad, in case I have shoulder pain, and I heard I should get gas-x strips, too, but Dr. K. in Denver said gas should not be a problem. What are you all doing?
  11. Shelbi, I'm with you about men folding laundry - love watching that or any other type of housework! Munch, Sorry your friends bailed on The Guess Who. bummer! Don't forget for your 80's outfit to have huge fluffy bangs! Party, Good for you for setting that goal. You can do it! Deb, Congrats on doing so well after surgery. That is great that you were able to enjoy a concert. I didn't realize we had such a rocking group of gals here! I did my volunteer shift this morning for the Democratic national Convention - kind of silly, just helping visitors how to figure out the public transportation to get to the various events. Again, if anybody is willing to share a sample day of their pre-op diet, I'd love to hear it. I'm running out of ideas.
  12. The size band depends on the diameter of your stomach. A person with a higher BMI is likely to need a larger size band than a person with a lower BMI to start with. The port on the allergan band is taller than the port on the Realize band, so it depends on which brand of lap band your doctor uses. Your weight loss should not vary based on band size, it depends on your compliance, and how much saline is injected into your band over time to narrow the stoma opening.
  13. I can do red robin Wed. or Thurs night next week. What time & which one?
  14. Hi Mal, Glad to see you back. I'm sorry your friend is not doing so well in the hospital. Hopefully the pneumonia will clear up soon so he can start rehab. The low carb diet is going ok. I went to the bronco game tonight and brought two turkey hotdogs (no bun), swiss cheese and some strawberries. Any tips from all of you on a sample daily diet for Dr. K's 7 day preop diet? I am getting tired of hard boiled eggs!

    Ask Dr. Schulman...

Dr. S., I'm concerned that many people say weight loss makes their face look older. If after weight loss my crows feet and crepey skin under the eyes gets worse, does laser treatment such as the Fraxel work?
  18. Lap, Thanks for the info from that book. i have it on order at the library, but it hasn't come in yet. Brandy, What a cute puppy- my vote is for oakley, that's a cool name for a dog. If you guys do decide on a red robin night, please let me know when and where, would love to meet you all. I went to employee health today to follow up again on my back injury for my nursing job that happened in June. They still will not release me back to work. It was all I could do to restrain myself from picking up that twig of a doctor to prove that yes, I am now capable of lifting 50 pounds. Now I have to go back next week for a PT eval, and then yet another occ healt visit to review the results. And won't this be fun to be downtown during the DNC too. Aggravation! Thank heavens this is only PRN, not my full time job.

    Gas pain please help!!!!!

I haven't had the surgery yet, but I'm a med/surg nurse. Lay flat on the floor, you can elevate your feet on a couple pillows if you like. This will move the gas. Also, try alternating heating pad and ice pack. hang in there!

    Nobody noticing weight loss

Lisa, I know how you feel. I've lost before in years past, and it is hard when you are all excited about fitting into a certain outfit, and nobody says anything. I think sometimes people are actually being polite, and consider it rude to comment on a person's weight, especially when they know you struggle with it. Hang in there, and let us know about your weight loss - we will happily cheer you on!

Looking for the ultimate eye cream

Instead of creams, try a laser treatment. Just google fraxel laser and the name of your town, and see what comes up.

    add to shakes? (liquid diet)

I like a teaspoon of instant coffee, or a teaspoon of cocoa powder in my vanilla shakes.

Is anyone else starting to get a little Nervous?

Well said, Deb. We all know what life will be like 1 month, 6 months, or 1 year ahead if we do NOT get the band. It will be more of the same, which we are not willing to continue. You have a great attitude and are going to do super!!
  25. Bella, I feel your mommy angst about taking your girl to college. Mine started last year, and she did great but i did horrible without her, just miss my little buddy terribly. She's in Spain this week visiting family, will be home 1 night, then back to school. i console myself by the thought that this is a much better problem to have than a nonmotivated child who would rather live in my basement and work at the mall forever - LOL Green, thanks for explaining about the Protein drinks...it just didn't make sense before. I'm looking for the slimfast low carb to try, haven't found it yet Adork, congrats on your new low numbers - that is fantastic! Deb, no worries about your hotel - the Denver Tech Center hotels are designed for business travelers, not luxurious, but you'll be fine. My friend who was going to take my home after surgery just remembered that date is her wedding anniversary, so she can take me home but not stay overnight. Will I be ok on my own, or should I ask another friend to stay with me?
