I had to have one (my clinic required it for everyone over age 50 (which I was..), or under 50 if they'd had a history of heart issues)

it's not bad - part of it just feels weird. They put you in a machine that looks kind of like an MRI only it's not as long (really just covers your chest) and the opening is a lot bigger -so you won't get that claustrophobic feeling that some people get in an MRI machine. Then you just lie there and they take a bunch of measurements of your heart. Then they'll take you out of the machine and give you an injection of something that mimics the feeling you get when you exercise REALLY intensely. That is the weird part because you can feel your heart racing - it's just kind of bizarre since you did nothing to get that way - it's just that shot. It feels a little freaky. Then they stick you back in the machine and take all the same measurements again. They're just trying to measure how your heart reacts to stress - and how quickly it recovers.

it's pretty easy and painless - it's just that racing heart drug feels weird.

I just saw a youtube video of the procedure. Exactly as you described. I am kinda hoping they dont do the injection to raise my heart rate and instead put me on a treadmill like before (Non nuclear type stress test)

Oh wow! I hope it goes well. I've heard that the nuclear stress test feels super weird, lol.

And you may as well get over the hatred of IV needles, you have your sleeve surgery IV to look forward to. This reminds me of a surgery I had and it lasted 11 hours. I woke up with an IV in each arm and in each foot. 😫

I hope your stress test goes well and you get clearance. 🤞

In each foot???? i have never heard of that. My gosh

  3. So did my EKG last Friday as well as my Psyc eval. EKG came back abnormal. Today i saw the cardiologist and to get clearance for surgery they are having me do a nuclear stress test next week. After that i will get the yes or no for clearance for surgery but the doctor said i should be good to go. Hate IV needles lmao.

  4. I still have not had my surgery but i know about them liquid diets because i have a condition called diverticulosis. Every so often i have to go on them and man i absolutely hate them with a passion. Best thing is to keep your mind occupied. Find something to do to keep your mind off of food. Video games, movies, shopping, ect...

  5. There are so many different Protein Shakes you can use. Premier Protein is one of the most popular because the ready made ones have 30G of Protein in the small "juice box" Fairfield is another good brand and so on there are tons... As for pre surgery some people have to do a liquid diet for a week, 2 weeks, a month it all depends on what your surgeon says. after surgery you will be on a liquid diet for some time... Again it depends on what your surgeon says as they all do different things.

So my surgery is Wednesday, however my EKG came bake abnormal!!! Lots of test today and tomorrow. I will find out if I can even have my surgery. I'm praying my heart is ok.

I know this is a old post. But there are dozens of pages so i did not see a update on this.. you said your EKG came back abnormal. mine did too on Friday. Any update with yours? what happened? what was abnormal and were you able to have your surgery?

  7. So Yesterday i had my Psyc Eval and after i went to another floor to get my EKG done which is required as part of my pre op stuff. it was very quick, Took longer to put on all the leads than the actual EKG lol. So the report got posted on my online medical record and seems that there are issues... Anyone know anything about EKG's. I dont have another appointment with the surgeon for a little while but obviously it will come up during that time...

I think mine was also a 600/200 question thing. I *think* it might have been the MMPI exam. It's really comprehensive - and as I recall, they sometimes ask the same questions again and again, changing the wording a bit each time.

They're looking for signs - like certain kinds of mental illness - that would make it inappropriate for you to have surgery. Although that's pretty rare. Most of us pass with flying colors - and occasionally, some people have to delay surgery a bit because something came up that wouldn't necessarily take surgery off the table, but they need to work on something (sometimes with a counselor) before being approved. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Yes lots of the questions were the same but worded different. Some of the questions made me laugh

You know, thinking back to my lap band surgery, which was almost 9 years ago, I remember having to do that psych "test/questionaire" and the psychologist didn't really say much to me. I remember thinking it was just an opportunity to grab some cash from desperate wls patients, lol.

That is what i am thinking too. While i am self pay, The pre op testing so far has been covered but that psyc exam would have been around $700 or so. I only had to pay $40 copay.

    650 & 200 questions??? Jeez...

I had my psych appointment last week and it was nothing like that.

I filled out a couple of papers and talked to the psychologist for about 20 minutes, that was it. She said I'm good to go and she doesn't need to see me again.

Yea for some reason my location is very picky. I talked to other bariatric centers and they dont even require any kind of psyc exam.

  11. Been waiting since middle of December to get the stupid psychiatric evaluation done. Today was their first available appointment for testing since December. They said it would take 3-4 hours to complete, I got done in 1 hour. It was roughly 650 questions on one test and 200 questions on another. hopefully everything comes back normal and i can get scheduled. I had a 1 hour "interview" with the psychologist on Tuesday and she said as long as the testing comes up good then i can get scheduled

Dang. World-class private hospital here in N Europe, self-pay, nothing covered by public or private insurance - 8,500 for a more complicated procedure than sleeve. Your doctors must be Ferrari'ing around over there.

LOL Yea cheapest was $15,500, One reason i chose this hospital is because they do offer a type of insurance that covers any complication that may come up during surgery because my insurance will not cover anything involving bariatric surgery or complication. But yea USA hospitals are very expensive compared to the rest of the world and yes most doctors do drive exotic cars. One doctor near where i live use to drive a McLaren. tho a few years ago that doctor was having his car transported by a semi truck and it got stuck on railroad tracks and got hit lol.

  13. I am doing Self pay... Here is everything that is a part of my package for the sleeve. Out of the 3 main hospitals in my area this was the most expensive. Cheapest i found was around the $15K mark but the hospital was a for profit hospital which i am not a fan of. I was able to get insurance to pay some things like blood work, Xray, EKG, Psychological exam.
