Food Before and After Photos
Spinoza replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Absolutely craving that bagel, with ALL of the cream cheese. -
Maybe a direct irritant effect of concentrated alcohol on your stomach lining? I do drink alcohol (one year out from my sleeve) but it's mainly wine (11% as opposed to the 40% in spirits) and luckily I haven't had any ill effects. Also, as Old Salt says - new food intolerances aren't uncommon after bariatric surgery. Might be worth changing around the type of whiskey that you drink to check whether another might suit you better!

Oh I have just got to tell you all that I hadn't given any thought to my neck in the year since my surgery. Since reading this thread, however, I have realised that I also have big time turkey neck. I'm not so into my appearance that I will ever do anything about it, but I do now have a series of photos from various angles in various lighting that I can never unsee. 😂😂😂

I had no restrictions on coffee/caffeine intake pre or post op. Was never a fan of fat free anything so I have made allowance for one proper full fat milk latte or flat white every day and lots of other coffee with semi-skimmed milk. It has worked for me (because that was in keeping with the rules my team set me). Also helps with protein goals. Best of luck on your journey.

Really interesting - thank you for the link!

Happy surgiversary summerseeker!! I had my sleeve the week before you (as you know). It's been great to have so many people here going through the same things at the same time. You've done amazingly well because you've worked so hard - enjoy every minute of your celebratory weekend. 🤩

Accidently been drinking coffee
Spinoza replied to BrightNights's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yeah, adding my voice to the others - there was no restriction on caffeine/coffee pre or post op in my programme so I can't see you'll have done any damage at all. Hope you can relax into this. -
You have done amazingly well. I suspect when you hit your first goal you'll extend it and keep going. 💪

Just some advise from someone 2 years out of Sleeve Surgery
Spinoza replied to skinny_me_1970's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Really good for those of us earlier in our weight loss journey to hear your story - thank you. Would it be possible for you to fill out your stats? I had no regrets at any stage but I guess that's just different experiences - ditto for hair loss! -
Don't worry. We do not lose weight in a linear fashion. If you're sticking to your programme then you WILL lose - you cannot not lose. Everyone here has had stalls big and small, long and short - they are part and parcel of a weight loss journey. I know they are hard but they will surely shift. Enjoy your journey - it's so very worth it.

I think my surgery failed
Spinoza replied to Honeyme's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes I agree - if you can tell us a little bit more about yourself then people may be more able to help. Particularly what you mean when you say you've stuck to your diet. What does that entail? Protein and water goals only? Calorie goals? Please let us help you!!! -
Definitely get the food in beforehand if you would be sick without that. Then swallow your meds with the minimum possible amount of water? It does get better really quickly I promise.

Fantastic - well done you! I remember my return to onederland so well - one of the big highlights of my journey. 😍

Cheated for the 1st time since surgery
Spinoza replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I probably wouldn't frame it as cheating, just a day when you ate more than usual, and maybe even more than you intended! Maybe that way you can avoid the negative connotations of the word. What matters is that you allow yourself those days occasionally and that most of the time you stick to your eating plan - which you are clearly doing. That's just life! I hope you can feel better about it, having discussed it here. Glad you enjoyed your workout too and I'm sure you weren't punishing yourself for 'overeating' but that's something I think we all need to be careful about in this strange new world post op. I learn things and consider new aspects to the surgery almost every time I read this forum. xxx -
Advice needed: How to do Thanksgiving
Spinoza replied to heartofmercury's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We don't do thanksgiving here but last holiday season I was 6 weeks post op and eating at a relative's house. I hadn't told anyone I had had the surgery so I actually cheated on purpose that day so I could eat more than usual and not draw attention to myself. So I ate the carbs first, veg second, protein little and last, and I kept drinking liquid to get it all through my pouch. I've cheated on purpose a few times since too. It's useful to know the rules (and break them) in certain situations if you don't dump (the risk I took!!!) Also brought home to me how very easy it is to eat around the pouch - even that close to surgery I managed about half a proper dinner. I'll be doing the same this year. However - that isn't what you asked OP! When I'm eating celebration meals at home I do it on a side plate and just have a tiny bit of everything. And I have never felt like I'm missing out. I hope you can too. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
Spinoza replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I hope this was a pep talk and not a lecture! If it helps you refocus then brilliant. You've already done so well, he's probably just willing you to go further. I came here to wish all my November 2021 friends a happy anniversary. I'm just past mine, pretty much done losing at this point I think - I've lost 1lb in the last 5 weeks, but I am maintaining without too much thought. I still do track every single bite I eat, just out of habit, and I think I need to! It would be so easy to slip. I hope you are all happy with where you are, and that those of us who still have a bit to go can keep it up! Would you have believed a year ago you would lose what you have? I certainly wouldn't. 🤩 Just for the record I weigh 154lbs, that's a total loss of 122lbs since 2 months pre-op and 97lbs since the day of surgery. I'm maintaining on about 1400 calories a day on weekdays and probably 1700-1800 at the weekend because I drink alcohol then. -
wait 3 months to eat carbs?!
Spinoza replied to qtdoll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My post-op programme didn't limit anything - no calorie goals, no protein goals, no fluid goals even! I learnt all that by being on this forum. I was told just eat as you feel. Seems just basic common bariatric sense to me now to get my protein in first, veg second, fruit third and then other carbs after that. Even now at almost exactly a year out I don't reach 50g carbs or anything like it most days. Other than weekends, when I *choose* to drink some alcohol. So many ways to skin a rabbit, LOL. -

Yeah Laura if you are a real person do feel free to tell us more about yourself and fill in your stats. -
Night time and my fat brain wants to eat.
Spinoza replied to Leo segovia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know what you're eating and when from your post but I just wanted to let you know that I have never, EVER been able to go to bed hungry, so if this is your problem I feel you. No matter what crackpot diet I was on throughout my life, I needed to save calories to eat for supper. I still do. Normally something filling but not calorific like porridge (oatmeal) with fruit, or even sometimes soup. Don't punish yourself for feeling what you feel - PLAN FOR IT would be my advice. Good luck on the rest of your journey. 😍 -
3 months post op and I'm done.
Spinoza replied to fed-up's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wow. You do you then! Hard to understand how someone else not in your shoes is doing after their WLS, isn't it? I do hope you can be happy with how you're doing. -
Ok - breathe. When is the last time you lost 9lbs (for good) in 6 weeks? Or 59lbs in one concerted effort? YOU'VE GOT THIS! ALREADY! If you're sticking to your plan, as you say, then you cannot *not* lose a big pile of weight. It just doesn't come off in a linear fashion - you will experience stalls (many) and big whooshes of loss (fewer). You just have to relax into this and trust the process if you follow the rules - you now have your tool, if you use it properly you will lose an absolute shedload of weight. Enjoy the ride. 🤩
-
Oh no! I hope it isn't anything serious. Sounds like you did exactly the right thing.
-
I feel your pain OP, it's truly miserable. So many of us go though this. Hang in there, you will soon be through the horrible post-op stage and onto the 'OMG look how much I've lost now!' stage. 🤗
-
Really good to hear your update. I took two weeks off after my sleeve but I know lots of people go back sooner. Please do look after yourself. Can't wait to hear how you do post-op!
