Also forgot to mention for reference, I did not have any liposuction, and the doctor said she would check to see if I needed muscle repair but I did not need any. I have no idea how I managed to go through two pregnancies and two C-sections and be that overweight for so many years without separating those muscles, but I managed it. I am very tall with a long torso so maybe that helped? Who knows. I’m just grateful because I am sure that helped post op. Also forgot to mention when the tape came off saw incisions for first time. Yikes, I am kind of Frankenstein’s monster right now. Still feeling good about the procedures and experience though.

ehhh That sucks. I hated crushing and swallowing pills post-op. I seem to be fine with pills now, even 2 or 3 at a time. Luckily!

I may need to have a hiatal hernia repair after mine. It’s been 9 months, I take 80mg omeprazole, sleep on an incline and the heartburn still wakes me up every morning.
Surgeon said the he would only do it after it had been 6 months since my last surgery (gall bladder).
I’m worry that it will be nearly as bad as my first surgery, DS, which took 5 weeks before I could work again.

ClareLynn reacted to loridee11 in Extended arm lift and breast lift done!
I'm 4 days out from an arm lift, J lift, and breast lift that included replacing and downsizing old implants. Basically, I have sutures from about an inch below my elbow, up my entire upper arm, down through my armpit, and continuing along the curve of my breast with only about an inch or two gap from the other side. Then anchor incisions on the breasts as well. Apparently, one of my old implants was ruptured as well so took a bit longer than planned.
I'm doing pretty good - the only challenge is some tingling/loss of sensation in my thumb and index finger on my right hand (dominant). Dr. isn't worried and think as swelling in the arm goes down it will improve. Otherwise, I feel a bit like a stuffed sausage but not too bad! I was able to shower and switched to Tylenol today. Hopefully, the swelling will go down little by little over the coming days although I realize it will be months before my results are final. So far I can tell the arms are going to be MUCH better. Even all swelling the contour is significantly better. The "j lift" should mean no more skin pushing out under my arm from my bra, and my chest feels like its going to be the right size.
Once closer to final I'll share some pics. Too much effort right now

ClareLynn got a reaction from GreenTealael in Food weight: before or after?
It depends on the description of the food you are tracking. The food logger you are using may have different names such as “beef, 80%, cooked”. Then the cooked weight matters.
The labels on most packaged foods are for the uncooked weight, so the tofu would be weighed minus excess liquid from the packaging before you cook it.

I started off with the plan to not tell anyone but I had so many complications, follow up procedures and another surgery that people were REALLY worried. It was too much to ask my husband and mother to lie or evade so I just let them tell family but that I wasn’t interested in discussing my health.

Work just has to keep wondering, I already face discrimination at work and knew from experience that sharing isn’t a good idea.

I got angry one day and threw all my clothes into goodwill. I now exist on two pairs of trousers, a few t shirts, a few jumpers and two pj sets! Easier on washing. When I finally start to feel better about myself I think I’ll be able to enjoy getting new clothes.

My goal is to lose enough fat under my loose skin so that plastic surgery goes well. People say that the less fat under the skin, the more likely that it heals well because there is a better blood supply.
I don’t even know what my ideal weight would be and my surgeon never mentioned a goal weight.
I have lost 145lbs and am down to 185 and while I am happy with my size, I think I have more to lose. At some point I need to see a plastic surgeon to confirm.

My hunger never really went away. It's not as strong as it was pre-op, but it is definitely there. I manage it with careful choices and mindful eating, but the promise of "no hunger" wasn't true for me.

I’m 7 months out from a DS and my taste buds are just permanently different.
I still can’t stomach plain Water when I previously exclusively drank water only for decades.
I used to have the most sensitive palate and only liked bland food. Even black pepper was too spicy. Now I eat garlic straight by the head, eat more pepper than my husband, love mustard when before I despised it, etc. it’s really weird. I crave acidic, sharp flavors and don’t like fat anymore (thanks to the gallbladder being taken out).

I'm just embracing it and trying to not feel bad about the foods I used to love making me sick now.

ClareLynn reacted to hope1020 in Liver Enzymes Post Op DS
Hello ClareLynn, My AST and ALT are finally in range as of the last three months. The ALP did decrease but not within the normal range. It has not been as high as last year when I was hospitalized. The last set of liver enzymes taken did show low Protein which is new. Bruising on the arms and legs increased in the past six months. My general practitioner, hematologist, gastrologist, and hepatologist have concluded it is the liver function. The next step is a liver biopsy which I will know more about on Monday. I will say I feel good and would never know anything was wrong without the bruising and the bloodwork. I did not have issues prior to the DS surgery and still don't know if it related to it. General Practioner believes the liver is not processing my protein properly. I looking forward to my appt on Monday with the hepatologist.

Luckily I kept a bin of clothes from when I lost a bunch of weight from the past. It's cool pulling out the old clothes that haven't fit me since 2018.

Not really a "weird" victory but the constant little voice in my head is gone. I'm not screaming inside about how I need to lose weight and why do I keep doing things like ... eating. I'm not thinking about what I'm going to eat next, or what I just ate and why it was "bad". All the other destructive disordered eating thoughts have just gone away.
It's nice and quiet in my head. I like it.

When I applied to have surgery they measured my height and I had lost an inch since when I was a teenager. It bumped up my BMI and helped qualify me for surgery.

Who knew you can get shorter?! 😅

ClareLynn reacted to fourmonthspreop in Negative comments from family members
I just need to vent because im so upset about this sometimes. Does anyone deal with negative comments from family members about your surgery? It's not so much about the fact that I got surgery but moreso constant questioning of my success. Like they're always like "what's gonna stop you from just gaining it all back?" "You might just go back to your old habits." "How are things gonna be any different this time?" "You got to the point of needing weight loss surgery to lose weight so how can you be successful?" That's actually what my brother just said to me and it made me so sad and upset. I've been working so hard to do it right this time but they just discredit me like it's another half baked idea. I wish they'd just tell me I got this and not question my dedication. I put in so much work to get where I am both mentally and physically. I made a comment about making sugar free brownie dip for my birthday and my family member said "isn't that what got you to this point in the first place, wanting to eat things like that?" And it just broke me like I'm not allowed to still Celebrate things with food. The all or nothing mindset is what drove my binge eating for years. All I want is to have a healthy relationship with all food and I'm finally in a place where I feel like I can, and then these comments are made. They make me feel like a failure or that I'm thinking incorrectly. I know deep down how far I've come but some days it really gets to me and tears me down. I'm sorry at this point I'm just venting. I just wish they'd recognize my successes and not constantly question my ability. Ughhhh

Read this article! It helped me.
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4579881/
It goes into depth about rates of GERD post gastric sleeve. In many cases, it actually reduces GERD. It is rare that GERD develops if you don't already have it. And the rate of GERD after 3 years is very low. Lower than your risk by just being an obese person. I read those horror stories and then did some looking into the actual research. This is a metanalysis of many studies, not just one study. The one quoted recently in the forums has a sample size of 16 people.

Turns out they sold me the wrong Vitamins. There was no Iron in them. I've been on the new ones for about a week yet. I don't have rushing head syndrome anymore but still fatigued. They said it might take 3 weeks for my levels to go back to normal.

They make arm sleeves that are technically s designed to protect your skin from the sun but I bet they would work. Just search sun sleeves or UPF sleeves. Oops sorry didn’t realize this was the guys room but hopefully that helps anyways. Lol
