    January 2013 Sleevers?

Bad dreams can be a side effect of morphine. I have had them in the past. Horrible nightmares! So real....ugh. As the meds get out of your system they go away.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I think purees are the same as mushies. At least that's my impression. My next phase is soft foods (after 6 weeks of mushies/purees). I haven't done much but chicken salad, tuna sald, egg salad are good...served with crackers (since they basically dissolve in your mouth). If you do regular chicken then you'd have to puree that. Well-cooked veggies can be mushed up with your fork. Hope this helps!

    Hey Guys

Hi everyone! I'm new to the group and hope it helps to have others similar to me to share my journey with. I was sleeved on January 14 and am down 23 pounds. I probably now weigh the amount that I did in the picture I posted months ago...lol. Good luck to all and hopefully everyone keeps posting here!

    January 2013 Sleevers?

The nausea meds work on the dry heaving too. I dry heaved almost every time I started drinking my protein. I started taking my pill before drinking and that solved that. But--I was able to sip and get in most of the 64 ounces by day 4 I believe. If I don't get it in it's because I don't have the desire. I need to do better on the protein...just having trouble stomach-ing the shakes. Should get better now with mushies hopefully.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

Yep...I took all of mine and still have bruises! But they didn't hurt at all (I think my stomach was still a little numb from the OnQ pump!

My band to sleeve story (so far!)

I had reflux with my band. But that's because it caused another hiatal hernia from my constant throwing up and dilated pouch. I had my band in in November 2008 and out in April 2012. I lost almost 80 pounds with the band over 3 years, almost entirely from throwing up and/or just not eating. Once my pouch dilated and had to be totally unfilled I gained 40 pounds in about 4 months. After removal I gained another 35 pounds. After being comfortable in my skin, going back to my pre-band weight has been devastating emotionally and physically. Now...even with having my band out 9 months before having my sleeve, my surgery was very extensive. My doc said my scar tissue was terrible. So, in addition to having to clean up scar tissue, fix my hernia, and sleeve me, my surgery was 5 hours long. My doc never does band to sleeve revisions in one surgery, and he said I was a perfect example of why. He does not do it for fear of the increased chances of a leak. For added security, he sews completely over the staple line, which made me feel more secure. My leak test went well and I've been able to get my fluids in. I actually ate a tablespoon of scrambled eggs and cheese last night (a couple days early...my surgeon requires 2 weeks Clear Liquids, 1 week full liquids then mushies for 6 MORE WEEKS!!! ugh). I feel perfectly back to normal today (19 days post op) and have lost 22.5 pounds as of this morning.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I'm sure you'll feel so much better. By day 5 I think I was only taking my meds at night to help me sleep! Are you using your incentive spirometer to help with the breathing? I did use that because I did feel a little short of breath.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I only have internal stitches. I've had a breast reduction where they used staples and the scarring is still there 7 years later... my band and removal scars also only had glue on the outside and they are all but disappeared. You can barely even tell where my sleeve incisions are right now at less than 3 weeks out! My surgeon also used the same incision locations as my band/removal used...except there's one in my belly button that you can barely see. I'm very happy overall with how it looks. I would like to wear something showing my belly one day! LOL (even tho I will be 40 in a few months!!!).

    January 2013 Sleevers?

Not at all! I was sleeved Jan. 14. Stayed 2 nights and by day 5 I was feeling much better. I had my drain out after 1 week and that was the last of my discomfort, thankfully. My incisions were all glued shut so I think that helped my incisions from ever being too sore! I'm just ready for my mushy stage to start on Monday!!!

    January 2013 Sleevers?

Me. Along with my band scar tissue clean up, my surgery took almost 5 hours! It was supposed to take 1.5 hours! But...thankfully I havent been having the heartburn I was having pre-sleeve!
  11. My doc is part of this group and I love him. I haven't finished reading the posts but I'm also wondering if something different wasn't done...like the band??? Just going by the diet on the hospital. Blue Point requires 2 weeks clear liquids and then a week of full before even going to purees.
  12. I go to Dr. Amir Moazzez ...several locations in northern va.
  13. Are you taking a reflux med? Sometimes the only sign of reflux is nausea. And - the anti-nausea med should help this. Why did you stop taking that one? Do you think it made you sicker? Maybe they can change it.
  14. You need to buzz the nurse and ask them for an anti-nausea med. You don't want to throw up, they don't want you to throw up!

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I have 5. Only 2 are new since I'm a former bandster. But all are teeny except the one at my belly button. That's stil only about an inch!

    Treadmills- who actually uses them?

And there's an app for it so you can listen to music while you do it. It beeps over the music at the correct intervals to run/walk.

    Treadmills- who actually uses them?

I did c25k about 3 years ago and it helped me drop weight quickly. I definitely recommend it. It's a great thing to see your progress too. Going from only being able to run for seconds to being able to run for 15-20 mins without stopping! Makes you want to keep going! And, yes, I was definitely more comfortable doing it in my home at first than in the gym.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I went home with mine. It was taken out at my one week follow up appt.

    The DRain!

I had mine out 7 days after surgery. There were 2 stitches holding it in and it was covered. I emptied it whenever it got a little full. I was upset I had to have one but once I did, it actually gave me comfort to see less and less blood drain out. At the end it was basically clear fluid which gave me comfort that I didn't have an infection or anything. My doc gives them to all sleeves. It didn't hurt at all coming out. Just a weird pulling sensation.
  20. I just crush mine. I figure it's more economical and I only have to do one per day.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I'm day 6 post surgery. I'm doing well overall but I want to eat. I'm not hungry but I'm sick of clear liquids. I go tomorrow to get my drain out and I'm hoping they let me go to full liquids early...supposed to be two weeks clear. Lots of broth and popsicles but it's getting old....

    Stuck food?

I was told to have papaya enzyme on hand to aid in digestion in case of this issue. Never tried it but I know people swear by it! I think u can find it at the drugstore or a vitamin store. God luck!
  23. crystal525

    How much protein?

I'm using Designer Whey - Plain & Simple from The Vitamin Shoppe. I thought it smelled when i mixed it but the taste was bearable in my Crystal Light.

    5 days post op...

All the damned food commercials!!!! That's part of the thing that keeps our minds on food. The band can be taken out, yes...but by no means is the damage it can cause always reversible... Don't do too much!!!! Rest up! Crystal
