  1. I have posted a couple of times about "first bite syndrome" as has many others. I sometimes will start with a warm swallow of liquid to get things going. Sometimes if I just wait 10 - 15 minutes, burp, and then go on. Once I "wake" my stomach up, I still am limited as to what and how much I can eat.
  2. You sound like you might have a similar problem I have. It is called first bite (swallow) syndrome. It is like I have to wake my stomach up EVERY time I drink/eat. Sometimes I have to wait about 15 minutes until I burp to be able to continue after the first bites. In the morning I start with a warm drink and that seems to help a lot. Remaining calm if I'm in a stressful situation also helps. :smile2: People really don't notice if you continue with the conversation, etc. I have found to short term discomfort to be worth the control the band provides me.

    soar around the port area

I had the same prob. My doc prescribed an elastic binder that I wore for a couple of weeks until the stiches in the port area healed.

How Many cc's in your band and how is

I was banded Aug. 4 and have not had a fill yet. I sometimes think I have too much restriction but with no fill, nothing can be removed. I just have to be very careful what I eat and how I eat. Amazing how different we can all be!

    I'm Mad as Heck...!

WASaBubbleButt - great post! I love easy recipes. I have changed my life style, now I have to contend with changing my family's. DH has lost a few pounds, the kids don't need to lose but I still want them to approach life healthier. Again, thanks for the recipes.
  6. The pain in my port area actually increased at about 7 days out. Went to my doc and he said no infection, etc, but did prescribe an elastic abdomin binder. It worked GREAT and I wore it for another two weeks.

Is it true....no SF gum post-op?

I find I get a stomach ache when I chew gun now. I think I must chew too hard (image of cow?) and swallow air. I find if I burp it goes away. I just prefer not to go through it so I've given up sf gum.
  8. Nice thread. I was banded last August and still haven't had a fill. I have had restriction from the beginning and can EASILY make myself sick if I'm not careful. My weight lost isn't as high as some folks but it just keeps coming off little by little. I have always been a VERY slow looser and I am thrilled with my progress! It is nice to know that there are others out there that have had restriction from the beginning. At one time, I almost had myself talked into believing something was wrong with my band or I would need a fill. We're all different but it's nice to hear of other similar to yourself. Forego the fill.

    Frequent nausea and dry heaves?

Sounds like you might need an unfill. Better call your doc.

    Frequent nausea and dry heaves?

I would hit a full liquid diet for a few days until my pouch settled down. I do this everytime I PB.

Food keeps getting stuck- What should I do??

I would suggest full liquids for a couple of days following EVERY fill and again anytime you upset your pouch, like throwing up. I find if I do this, the next time I eat, and EAT CAREFULLY, I am alright. Either that or your fill was too much. I would suggest the full liquids first and if it doesn't pass, call the doc for an unfill.

    Didn't get first fill yet

I was banded on Aug. 4 and I still haven't got a fill yet. As long as I lose a pound a week, my doc doesn't think I need one. Plus I am experiencing quite a bit of restriction. If I'm not careful, I get sick.
  13. I was banded Aug. 4 and woke up with restriction. The first few days I didn't know what was going on so like I have always done for my whole life, if my tummy hurts, I eat/drink something. About a week out, I realized, this is restriction. My tummy hurts because it doesn't want to be any fuller. So here I am, nearly six months out and still without a fill. Part of this process was learning what restriction fills like and then honoring my new stomach and not eating.

    Realize band vs. Lap band

Mariposita, I also like the web site. I have found it to be a great motivation tool. :huh2:

    Elastic band around mid section

I was not given a binder initially. After about a week, my port area hurt so bad, I went back to the doc. He then prescribed an abdominal binder that I wore for another week and it made ALL the difference!

    Head Pain after vomitting

I do know that for some reason, the blood rushes to your head when you throw up. Pre-bandster days, I had the flu and ended up with "black eyes" from vomiting. My doc said I had broken the blood vessels around my eyes from vomiting too violently.
  17. I was banded Aug. 4 and IMMEDIATELY had my sweet spot. (I have not had a fill yet) I can eat 1/4 cup if it's "hard" (meat protein) and about 1/2 cup if it mushies. Certain times of the month I can eat a little more. Of course, there are slider foods that I can eat much more of but I really try to stay away from them. My weight loss has been slow but I believe I suffer from metabolic syndrom so ANY weight loss seems amazing to me! I love my band.

    "Realize my Success" website

I log onto the website everyday. I find it very useful and they keep improving it. I like the way you can track protein, exercise, and get menu ideas. I also have found the tips very useful. They remind me of how to make "my tool" successful.

    First Bite Syndrome

My first bite syndrome is a little different than explained by Slim'n'tn. Everyone is different and and mine occurs EVERY morning. I have problems with my first bite/swallow of anything. I start by drinking a warm cup of tea to get my stomach going. Usually I won't have any trouble for the rest of the day unless I forget to eat and go too long and then I have it again. It is painful like I am stuck by it can be caused by liquid. It is just the first swallow hurts between my shoulders. Again, if I drink a warm beverage, and wait a bit, I can then eat. :tongue2:
  20. Neugene - I was banded Aug. 4 with the Realize band and have not have a fill yet. I had restriction from the beginning.

    Banded 12/18 Not hungry

I was "sick" feeling for about a week. Then I wrestled with am I hungry or am I nauseous? That lasted about another two weeks. Then my good life kicked in. I have great restriction without any fills. I was banded Aug. 4 and have lost 31 pounds which is AMAZING for me! You MIGHT be one of the lucky ones that has restriction from the beginning. No rhyme or reason, just lucky. One thing that is more challenging for someone who has restriction right away, we don't have a grace period to gradually learn what works with our bands and what doesn't. Baptism by fire!

OK let me try over here...please come in..

This person MUST work for Lapband AP! I think they are SPAM and should be blocked. I'm tired of their one-sidedness.

Old Band out -- New Realize Band In

I'm convinced this person (rockbandster) is SPAM. This person never posts unless to blast one band vs. another. I think this person might work for the band it praises and should be blocked from this site.

    2nd time around is tough!

thanks for the update, Gypsygirl. I was wondering how the second time went. I'm praying for your speedy recovery. :wink2:

2nd fill w/Realize band 6cc total no restriction

:wink2: As we bandsters know, there is no hard and fast rule that applies to everyone. I received the Realize Band Aug. 4 and still have not had a fill. I AM AT MY SWEETSPOT WITH AN EMPTY REALIZE BAND! It has more to do with the amount of fat surrounding your stomach and your own sensitivity to your body's cues. These overall generalizations saying the Realize Band is too flexible, etc. causes new bandsters too much stress. EVERYONE is different. The bottomline is, you have to work the tool to be successful. Exercise and listen to what your band is telling you. Please stop making broad generalizations and upsetting our fellow bandsters. :crying:
