    Signing off

I understand your annoyance. I too was annoyed when I received a similar message from a different monitor. However, once I explained that both my wife and I are members of the forum there were no more issues. Bottom line is it is your choice if you want to leave, however, you are giving up a support group that cannot be replaced. Yes, you can come back and read the forum at anytime from any computer but you will not be able to ask your specific questions and get advice concerning the issues you that affect you. Plus, we will all miss you.

What was your preop diet like?

I'm on two weeks of Protein shakes and veggies. I can also have as much SF Jello, popsicles, and Water ice as I want, as long as it is SF. However, to be honest I have already cheated some. After reading all the different types of pre-op diets on this forum and realizing that many have a much shorter pre-op diet, especially with lower BMI's I decided I will not follow the diet to the T for the first week. I know I'm bad, but that's my decision. I'm not pigging out or anything like that. My calories each day is between 800 - 1200. Next week I will strictly follow the diet. I may even add an extra day of clear liquids just before the surgery.

    Eyeopenner

I believe the other guys just gave you great advice. The only thing I would add is you may want to consider buying a BodyBugg. It is a tool to help track you how many calories you are burning so you know how many calories you can eat. I learned about it from this forum. Several people here used it to help them succeed. I told myself if I don't lose any weight for 3 - 4 weeks then I am buying one. BODYBUGG :: HOW IT WORKS

    Oprah and wls program

I generally do not what Oprah as well but I would have if I read this post earlier. Did anyone see it? How did it go? Will it re-air?
  7. Just wanted to know if anyone else had more to add to this post. I'm now on the pre op diet and I'm starting to lose weight. I still have this nightmare that my surgery will not be covered. My wife says I'm crazy. Anyone else in the same situation? Please tell me I have nothing to worry.
  8. Hi, I'm recently found this forum last week. My wife and I both decided to get banded and just finished all of our pre-surgery testing for the lap-band. Hopefully our insurance will approve us quickly so we can still get this done before the end of summer. Does anyone know if it matters if your BMI drops below the required number during the pre-op diet? My BMI was 35.6 on the day I met with the doctor. Since I have hypertension my BMI meets the requirement for my insurance, but what happens if or when I loose weight during the pre-op diet? Should I be concerned? Was anyone else in the same situation?

    Pre Op Testing

My doctor required the same as Lanakila except I did not have to turn in a 5 year weight history. My insurance did not required it. Since I have a cardiologist my doctor wanted a cardiac clearance for surgery as well. It was basically a paper from stating my risk level for surgery.

It all starts today, Aug. 11th

Charlie, only three days? Wow, I wish. I wonder why there is such a big difference between doctors and pre op diets.

    Pre-op diet started

Thank you Junior for the encouragement. I'm glad to hear it gets better towards the end of the pre op diet. Right now I am hungry and want to eat a cheeseburger. I didn't think the pre-op diet would be this hard. I'm going to have to stay busy to keep my mind off of food.

    August 12th Surgery Date

I get the same feeling. I read a post the other day where someone was asking about the book "Body for Life" so I went to Borders yesterday and looked at it. It looks great and i am amazed by the results many have had with the strategies in the book. BUT, I know myself. I can only do this "on my own" for a short period of time and then I get hungry, tired and end up eating poorly again. The worst part is I always gain back everything I lost plus a few extra pounds. So whenever I get this "I can do this on my own" feeling I remind myself that the band will be the tool to help me do this on my own. It will be the tool that will keep me from over eating. It will be the tool so I will feel full sooner. If I don't eat correctly I will get a PB and from what I hear I really do not want that feeling.

    Naming your Band?

I have to admit legdxdlr that "Bounty" is a great name. Perfect. And down right FUNNY.:thumbup::wub:

Friday the 8th August - WEIGH IN!

0 lbs. This may sound crazy but I'm not trying to loose weight yet. You read that right. I'm not trying to loose weight right now. My BMI just qualified for surgery b/c I also have high blood pressure. Once I start loosing my BMI will be quickly go below the required minimum of 35. I was told I will not be weighed again, but I keep having these nightmares that after surgery I will not be covered b/c my BMI was not at least 35 at the time of surgery. My wife says I'm crazy. And, she may be right?!? I start the two week pre-op diet on Monday, so I'm sure I will have some, hopefully a very little, weight loss to share next Friday. For everyone else, CONGRATULATIONS!!

    Naming your Band?

Although I'm leaning towards going with ST b/c I just think it's funny, here are a few more serious ideas... 1. JJ 2. Earle 3. Josephine (a little more feminine) O.K. you mentioned the Lap-Band is going to be a "tool." It's also your aid in weight loss....your band-aid. JJ comes from Johnson-Johnson, the biggest manufacturer of band-aids. Earle comes from Earle Dickson the inventor of the band-aid. Josephine was Earle's wife, the person for which the band-aid was invented. I hope this helps. Band-Aid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Naming your Band?

How about calling it ST for Stomach Tourniquet. Or, LC for my Little Choker. :biggrin2:
  17. I agree...the colder the water the better the taste. I'm thinking about making mine the night before and leaving it sit over night in the frig.

    Becoming Extremely Nervous!!

I understand b/c I am a little nervous as well. This will also be my first surgery, but I keep reading post on here so I have and idea as to what to expect. I think I'm more nervous about how I will feel post op then the surgery itself.

    I did it! I'm Banded!

    Congratulations!!!
  21. O.k. I tried the strawberry 100% Whey Protein powder with milk this morning at Breakfast. It tasted much better compared to mixing it with water. The taste reminded me of Nestle Quick strawberry milk mix. It wasn't my favorite but it is certainly doable. However I will have to wait until after I am banded. I am not allowed to have any dairy during my two week pre op diet.
  22. My doctor said to use the whey Protein shakes as well, however, before surgery I have to make them with Water and not milk. No dairy allowed during the two week pre op diet. Last night I bought chocolate, strawberry and mixed berry from GNC. I tried the strawberry powder mixed with water. I wasn't to thrilled with it. I'm wondering if it will taste better with milk. I'll try the chocolate today.
  23. I agree with 2KpUpwithAvery!!! I only plan on stepping on the scale once a month or when I visit my doctor. In my past attempts to loose weight I get fixated on the numbers. This time my plan is to focus on healthy eating and exercise and enjoy the feeling of clothes getting looser. I can't wait until I have to tighten my belt.

    The Lap Band and Dating

    Will there be a 2nd date?
  25. Congratulations! Wow you are an inspiration. I cannot wait to run again. Six years ago I completed a half marathon by run/walking. I want to do it again.
