    Negative thoughts here...

Remember keep me posted. I go on the 7th. Try not to be nervous it should not hurt. I think I am more nervous about learning to eat less and getting it right so as not to get anything stuck.

I actually feel the same way. There have been times where I come home from work and cook then when I get to the table to eat I am so hungry that I have gone to fast some times and paid for it. I am trying though.

slinderella2b, I have my first fill on 8/7/08. So I will keep my head up until then. Please keep me posted I want to know how you feel after your first fill. Hopefully we will be some of the lucky ones not to have to many fills before we reach our sweetspots.

    Negative thoughts here...

slinderella2b, I just wanted to say I feel the same way. I broke down yesterday and cried becuase I thought I broke something and that is why I can eat more. So Thank you so much for posting this issue. To everyone else Thank you for all of your advice an support. It means the world to me that you all care about our journeys to new health. I am in a support group at the hospital I had my surgery but most of the people their have had bypass so they don't fell the same way as us banders do sometimes.
  6. :confused:Hello everyone, I was banded on July 2nd but I do not see my Doctor for a follow up until 7/15. When I first left the hospital I drank very little in regard to full liquid diet I am on. Now I can drink about a cup of Water,Protein drink, broth or whatever in 30-45 mins. Is that bad? Is something wrong? Everything I have read said no more than 2 ounces at a time. Since I have not had any fills everthing still should just slide through right? I also don't think I am swollen anymore. I am just concerned I am messing something up and any help would be great. Oh and I do get the full feeling I am just concerned I am taking in to much liquid. Thanks for help with a new Bander

    Self magazine article

I just received my Self magazine today. It is the August 2008 issue. I was flipping through it and notice and article that said "The weight loss miracle that isn't." It talks about the scary things that can happen with bariatric surgery. It mostly talks about the bypass procedure and the complications that some people have with it. Like malnutrition and needing to have the procedure reversed so they can live. It also gave a least one negative example for the band but over all it shows the difference between the two. If you get a chance you should pick it up and read it. My mom had bypass 8 years ago and is doing great but has to take alot of supplements to keep her numbers up. She said she would not do anything different that the consquences of the surgery out way her being fat. But it shows what works for one peron might not work for all. I am still glad I got banded. I think doing things slower will work better for me.:scared2:

    Self magazine article

It talks about a woman who was banded in 2003. Right after her surgery she had trouble keeping food down no matter how small a bite she took or how long she chewed she said it felt like she was having a heart attack. Then the food would come right back up. "It was like surgically induced bulimia." She managed to tough it out for 20 months because her surgeon urged her to stick with it and chew her food more thoroughly. After getting a second opinion the new doctor agreed to remove the band.

    Strange reactions about surgery

My family is supportive except my sister said I have failed before so why would I not fail now. I could not believe that one. Everything that people said to you I heard as well. Some people know but not all because some so call friends can be so negative with out even really knowing they are. I went to my support group last week and someone came up with a brillant thing to say when people start to question what have you been doing to lose weight. She says I watch what I eat carefully. I exercise alot. And yes I had weight loss surgery. She said say it in that order because once someone hears you have had surgery they think you took the easy way out. But in fact it is one the hardest things you will do. I am exactly 13 days post op and I can tell you I have to work at doing all the things I need to do:smile:.

    Anybody from Ga.

Hello, I was banded on 7/2/08. I was looking for soemone to chat with regarding your experience with the Lap Band.
  14. I only have one incision were my port is. My doctor did my lap a new way. He was trying it out on a couple of his patients. Something about they use some kind of flexable tube to put the tools in and can see everything and move around everywhere. I guess I got lucky with that one. My recover has been good as well.

    July Butterflies Master Thread

Thanks Orea, I am truly in Hell. Thanks for the support. I am going to get some stuff at the hobby store to work on.My doctor said not to eat more than 1/4 cup of solid food at a time. So he said I can eat or drink a protein shake roughly every 2 hours to make sure I get my nutrition. Then as I come along I will go to three meals a day.
  16. Hi Heather, I just wanted to say I love reading all your posts they are very postive and informing. I just had surgery this month so I have been on this site alot.

    July Butterflies Master Thread

I was Banded on 7/2/08. I am doing fairly well. I can eat solids now. I saw my doctor on Thursday and I am doing good so far. I had a birthday party for my nephew and I found out that I really have no restriction yet, which is not a good thing for me. I feel so hungry like I want to make up for the fact I was on liquids for a while. I think it is to early to struggle anybody having a hard time?

    Have some questions **Newbie**

MusicMan2008 thanks for the info. I just was not sure about the swollen thing because I can drink alot more now then I could. I thought I broke something. I think I get to go to Mushy stuff or better food at least next week, so I am excited I just don't want to mess things up. Also I thought you said half a chicken as well so I guess Barbiek and I both are fantizing about food. Barbiek it is so cool we are on the same track. My family knows what I did as well as a couple of really close friends. But I agree they do not know what we are dealing with. My Mom had Bypass 8 years ago but she even says it is not the same except we both have to deal with emtional eating or head hunger versus true hunger. From all the reseach I have done I feel I made the best choice. Because while her new stomach can stretch over time I think we still have better restriction over the long term. vanman fron what I have read the band is designed to make the weight loss slow and steady.I am still very new but the post op diet is not fun and I have realized the hold food had on me. I am not purfect but I am trying. I tried to do the liquid thing before I had the surgery (I really only had 1 liquid day that my surgeon made me do so I feel very lucky) and that did not work well at all or at the least I could not do it. But once I got the band you kind of have no choice but to follow the post op diet your doctor gives you because if you don't you kind of feel bad. Also you feel the pressure of the band so you know you are full. If I can do this post op diet anyone can. I know you are nervous but we can all do this.
  19. Hi Everyone, I wanted to introduce myself. I was banded on July 2nd and so far I am doing well. Dr Daly did my surgery at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.
