  1. I think it is a matter of education, we don't do a very good job of that in this country. We tend to let the media teach us about other countries by way of sensationalism instead of picking up a book and reading a bit about the topic of other countries. Mexico is not a tiny village without running Water. ;o)

Let's not forget, it was the Mexican surgeons that trained the majority of US surgeons in banding.

I'm sorry Bubble Butt! It has nothing to do with education. Mexico is a 3rd world county and I said that FOR ME, it wouldn't be an option. And I'm not sure about who trained your surgeoon, but my surgeon, Dr. Meyers was trained here in Chicago at RUSH Hospital which the LARGEST teaching hospital in Illinois. I think YOU should read a book.

  2. I can only tell you what I would do.

I would want the surgery but I would not want to spend that kind of money unnecessarily when my husband just lost his job. Personally, I would have the surgery but I would go to Mexico and save $11K.

$18K is just ridiculous for a band. Or, got to Kirshenbaum in Denver and save $8K. Can you really afford to throw money away right now?

I can see (easily) justifying the medical expense, I cannot see $18K for a band. Sleeves cost less than that, bypass can cost less than that.

I would have the surgery, you will feel better about yourself and about motherhood... I say go for it! it's the best decision that I ever made.

as far as having your surgery in Mexico, I'm not sure about that... I admire the brave souls that would cross the border to do it, but that's not me. I woudln't be comfortable doing the procedure in a foreign country, but that's just me...

Good luck my dear, you will be in my thoughts and prayers!

  3. Sweetie, please don't fret! It is so worth it... I can only speak from my own experiece but it's SO worth it, and I'm only 3 weeks post op... I have already lost over 10 pounds (maybe more, I have weiged myself this week) but I can tell you that no matter what, it's worth it. My surgery and recovery has been such a smooth transiton... I will say a little prayer for you tonight, and don't worry... everything will be wonderful... I promise! Send us a note when you get home tomororw and let us know how you're feeling...

    Hugs,

    Chi Town Susie!

  4. fart like a rhino! HILARIOUS... LOL!

I was banded 07/02 and I too have the same problem, my fiance metnioned how much my 'tooting' has increased! The Gas-x helps a little bit, but not totally! I hope this will subside a little bit eventually!

    Thanks for the laugh!

    Chi-Town Susie!!!

  5. Don't listen to Frenchie1959, she sounds bitter and mean... You are welcome to post on our bandster's site ANY TIME YOU LIKE!!! Hey, AceDuece, were all in this together regardless of the band or the sleeve!

Lighten up Frenchie, she's just trying to enlighten us!!!

  6. Don't beat yourself up PennyLane! I too had a HARD time with the pre-op diet. I did cheat here and there as well and my surgery was a great success and i'm no worse for the wear right now, not that I'm condoning that but I know that were all food addicts and if we weren't, then we wouldn't be having the surgery, right? So, hang in there and get yourself back on track, I have faith in you and I know you can do it!!!

IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT IN THE LONG RUN!!!

  7. I am so pissed! How come I wasn't so lucky? I woke up STARVING - and it wasn't head hunger. I was hungry from day one and struggled for days being angry and depressed over the whole thing. Then - ZOOM - it was over so fast and now I am 2 and 1/2 weeks post op. Struggling with full liquids and eating every chance I am allowed too- all carbs and weight loss is minimal. I can't wait for my first fill - if there is one thing I learned in this whole process is that the band is the preliminary stage and that the real BIG DEAL is the fill date (or dates).....

don't feel bad NoahsMom... I was banded 07/02 and I too was hungry from DAY 1 and I am having the same struggles you are. I don't feel that much different and when I called my surgeon he told me that I don't have any restriction right now and being hungry is not abnormal. I am so glad I'm on purees now... it helps a little bit!!! Mashed Potatoes are my friend! I am not scheduled to have my first fill until August 13, and I was mad about that as well... why do I have to wait 5 weeks??? I know it will all be worth it in the long run, but the hard part is getting there!!!!

  8. Hi There!

I am new the site and have a question regarding my incisions! I am 8 days post op and they are itching like CRAZY ... I also still have a little bit of soarness when I get in and out of bed... Is that normal??

I need some advice on how make the itching stop and I was also wondering if anybody had any good ideas to reduce the scaring... Vitamin E???

    HELP!!!!

    Thanks Gang,

    Susie Girl!

  9. Girl! don't fret... I'm not encouraging that you cheat but I was not as diligent as I should have been during my two week liquid pre op...

Yes, they do want to shrink your liver but I ate a little bit here and there during the pre-op, and had a successful banding, not to mention I lost 8 pound prior to the surgery. I must admit I was very dilligent 4-5 days prior... I think that it's more difficult for some... let's face it, if we werent food addicts, we wouldn't be having the band!!!

So, don't beat yourself up... Just get back on track with the liquids!!!
