  1. Did you guys have a hernia repair also? My nurse in the hospital said most patients who had a hernia repair complained about pain in their upper back. I had it pretty bad in my upper back for the first couple days.

I had a hernia repair. This is good information to know wasn't sure why my back was hurting. Well I have few herniated discs from the extra weight but now 37 lbs down feel lil better. Especially my knees

  2. Anyone having back pain? My back hurts so bad, and I feel like I’m walking hunched over. Also, I’m 6 days post op and thinking about going back to work tomorrow. Any suggestions. I’m not getting paid for my time off.
I had a lot of back pain yesterday. Think linked to me trying do to much. Tough when u r not getting paid but u have take care of uself. Perhaps a few more days or part time. I took two wks went back for a wk Conf n realized came back too soon. Took another wk. Go back Mon but for once in my life taking care of myself. U do the same, take good care of urself.

  3. How is everyone doing? I am exactly one week post-op today and down 8lbs from surgery. The first few days were extremely rough, but about day 4 things started to improve. I’m still on full liquids and am looking forward to the purée stage. I have a follow-up appt on Wednesday to have my stitches removed. No issues getting fluids or Protein in the last few days.

I’ve never been much of a cook, but for some reason I’ve become obsessed with watching cooking videos and researching recipes. At a time when I physically cannot eat I’ve decided I want to learn to cook [emoji2957]. Oddly enough, it’s not making me crave food - it’s somehow helping me cope. Anyone else have any odd revelations after their surgery?

What is that about? I must have watched 40 Beat Bobby Flay videos. Cooking videos are my new obsession. Made a butter chicken n shrimp meal [emoji39] 4 husband. Could only eat one shrimp.

  4. I had the ablation surgery when I was 45. I had heard a co- worker talking about having her's done and I wanted it! They dissolve the lining of your uterus so you don't have "your menstrual cycle" any more. Lol I was done having children and done having periods!! You can still get pregnant, so you still have to use birth control. But best decision ever! So freeing!

Sounds like something I need to look into. Dr said VSG surgery releases some extra estrogen cells hence extra pain. Whew the cramps were worst than VSG surgery. Glad had most Meds left took them n went to sleep. Know my husband was [emoji4] I was finally quiet.

  5. I had surgery on Monday 8/30. Since then I have had 1 of my 6 incision site continuously been extremely painful. It's the only site that's bruised, steri-strip is bloody and it hurts soooo much. When ever I move or have to engage that part of my core (sitting up, going to the bathroom, laying in bed, even just standing up) it hurts. It's like a burning, sharp ripping feeling and it legit makes me see stars and lose my breath. I called and sent a photo to my doctor and they said it was normal. They gave me a stronger pain medication but it only makes me high and doesn't tough the pain when I move. Could they have stitched me up a little off? Anyone else experience this? I need it to be tolerable by Monday so I can go to my work office for 1 hour. I feel alone and absolutely hate doing anything right now because of this.

So sorry to hear about your pain. I have not had a similar issue but have heard others say the one where they removed stomach is worst. Keep watch make sure no infection is setting in and try to rest. Ur not alone reach out crew 4 support. This is a process but gets better I'm 4 wks out. Just taking it day by day. Hang in there.

  6. Ive had mine on 20th. Im having the blues
All don't have the blues. I know it is a lot physically and psychologically. Just try to trust the process. It gets better read some of the posts of those 4 or 6 months out for encouragement. You will love hearing health benefits not mentioned clothes fitting better, the ability move around easier. Increase self confidence n list goes on and on. Also bring this up w ur medical staff..if ur blues continue. I know B12 helped me. Most importantly Congrats on your surgery [emoji122]

  8. This is the first period of stress that I faced since I had my sleeve surgery. I'm an English teacher and It is time to grade research papers. Normally in the past, I would turn to sugar and lots of snack to help me get through the many hours of long grading in the next few weeks.
When I had the band, even though I couldn't eat a lot, I could still eat sugar and the other foods that make me feel better and help me focus more.
Now I am struggling to get through this without turning to those old habits. After 6 weeks I have healed up great, and I have very little restriction and no food intolerances so far. Unfortunately in this case, it is making it easy for me to eat foods I shouldn't be eating.
I am just looking for moral support and people to cheer me on to help me get through this hard time. If you are a good cheerleader, I could use your help right now lol!

I think the 1st thing you need to do is give yourself a huge hug, this is for recognizing your triggers. Now you just have to plan accordingly. One of the team members posted some sweet healthier alternatives. Grab some, then cut some dill pickles cubes of low fat cheese cubes of rotisserie chicken, etc. Trick is to make uself a tray of Snacks with huge cup Protein Decaf coffee and dig into those papers n your snacks. Sounds like a challenge up ahead but you have the tools to do it!

  9. Hi Laurie I turned 53 five days before my surgery. I am doing well so far. Surgery was 16th down around 25 lbs since the one wk liquid diet. Just trying follow my Dr advice. Unfortunately I do still have my cycle n had some anemia preop. I am concerned about my Iron levels in upcoming wks since my cycles r so horrible. Felt like I couldn't lose 10lbs on my own pre surgery but seems my tool is working. I don't think our age will negatively impact us.

  10. Shelly, so about a week on pain meds?

I was hoping just a few days, but that makes sense. I read somewhere it is 2-3 weeks for incisions to heal and 6-8 weeks for the staple line to heal.

I gave myself two weeks of recovery and plan to go back to work after that. I have a desk job and work from home so I am hoping it won’t be too tough.

I’m really on top of liquids, Proteins, and walks. I think that will help. Taking about 4oz and hour.

Feeling okay after morning pain meds.
Good job w walking n ozs. Sitting here trying eat 2oz puree chicken dip. About surrender its good but few baby spoons n I'm full. Need do a timer stay disciplined w my Water.

I did not need any pain Meds after 10 AM the day after my surgery. I haven't taken anything since then. They say pain levels diff each patient. On day 11 post op. I go back work Mon but only 4 days then off another wk. Listen to your body I am lil tired so rest when I need to. Pray u will have a speedy recovery.

  12. What type of pain meds does everyone use and how long does the pain last?

They told me 2nd and 3rd day are the worst. I’m on the third day. Yesterday definitely wasn’t as bad as the first day. It hurts like an hour before my scheduled pain killer, but other than that it is bearable. I do hope that tomorrow is easier. I finally started passing gas.

I’m taking tramadol and gabapentin every 6 hours. Both are pills I have to crush. I head liquid Percocet is more common, but my doctor said that is more likely to cause Constipation than the ones I got.
I was off pain meds Tues but each person and surgery is different. I hope you get some relief soon. Dr gave me those tiny oxycodone pills take home. Also said ttake tylenol if needed.

He can agree to disagree but his job is be by your side. Sorry you are going through this. This process is stressful enough.
