New to the site - To be banded July 14th
Welcome and good luck! The world (and women) will be glad to have you back! Seriously, good for you taking this step. And lucky you aren't unhealthy otherwise; maybe now you won't ever be!

5 days post op and concerned
call the office tomorrow, see who's taking your docs calls, tell him/her you can't get 64 oz of fluid down each day and how you feel.

Brand New to site. Banded Jan 05
Buy a book! Amazon has tons of them...and if you don't want to pay the shipping etc, get some names then go to a local half-price store. AND...find a new surgeon and go get checked! You may have a slip, you may need an unfill... Good for you taking control! Reading on here is great but much of the "factual info" presented here is actually just anecdotal and what works for a newly banded person may not work for you. Do you know what type band you have, and what size, and how much fill for example? Welcome to 2009...your band will help you lose the rest of the weight (and hey, you're down 70. That's better than gaining, which is what I did every year until the band!)

Went to Seminar Today, but unsatisfied...
Find another surgeon/center. Especially in a large city like Phoenix (and it's environs) you have a choice. Use it.

Will I Ever Make It?
If your insurance does NOT require that program, why not just find another "in network" surgeon? I have insurance and my surgery was done in about 1 month...from seminar to recovery in the hospital. I didn't get my band the 1st time but that was my fault, not the process....

questions
you need to get fluids. For one thing, you need the liquid to help keep your mucous thin. For another, your body needs the liquid to perform properly. If you will make yourself drink, you'll feel better. In fact...going a few days without the Protein will NOT hurt you as much as going a few days without adequate hydration. Seriously...dehydration usually kills before starvation. Odd, isn't it? That liquid is very important. Hydrate yourself.

Stuck! Stuck! Stuck!
What foods make you PB? And you can drink up to a few minutes before meals, can't you? What does your surgeon say? PB's are almost always caused by a person eating too much, too large a bite, not chewing well (or eating a food that won't be chewed well) or eating too fast. Are you SURE you aren't doing this? How large are your bites?

help- problem after eating bread
Gaining 3.5 pounds would not make your band tight to the point that you can feel it when you breathe. Please just check with your surgeon if you don't feel "normal" by tomorrow. That you are cleared for regular foods already is a little aggressive. Check with him; it's why he gets the big bucks.

You're awesome.

Nothing After Midnight
I know! but you know a month from now, you won't think "I WISH I'd stayed home and kept the heating pad on" if you go, but if you don't go, a month from now you may think "I WISH I'd gone to say bye and give my love". ?

Share your stories of cheating on your preop diet (feeling gulity)
Sure! I cheated on my preop diet. I lost 15 pounds anyway. I didn't get the band because my liver hadn't shrunk.

help- problem after eating bread
Check with your doc when you get back home and take it easy for the rest of your vacation. If you are only 4 weeks post op, at that point many of us are just moving from mushies to soft foods. A toasted sub doesn't fall in the "soft food" range. Don't know what your post op diet was like but you may have hurt yourself a little. (don't freak! You may just be a little swollen). Just run it by your doc.

Nothing After Midnight
You KNOW you should go! (sorry, LOL) but if they are going into the military, this may be your last chance. Hope not, but life is short and uncertain. And the cramps are going to bother you whether you stay home or go. Distraction may do wonders for you!

Banded 7/10/09! having trouble with liquids
If you still can't drink by tomorrow morning, call your doc, ok? It MAY be swelling from the surgery, or s/he MAY have filled you some and it's too tight (that happens a lot). The point right now is to heal and you do NOT need to suffer with the band to lose, ok? Well, the post op healing diet is vile but other than that! LOL Dehydration is a big concern. Just do what you can, and call tomorrow if it isn't much easier to get your required fluids in.

Too tight. FYI
Ok didn't mean to insult. It's been all over my docs office and they even handed out little cards with the info on it; he even went over it in the seminar. I guess we're just "forward" down here in San Antonio!

1st fill - reflux, and headache
I'm glad you called her! You probably saved yourself a trip to the ER tonight! :frown: Good for you! Glad you're feeling better now.

Itching like Hives! Help Anyone!
If you can, take some benadryl. It should help. If it doesn't go away call your doc on Monday. The odds of you being allergic to the band (made of an inert plastic) are REALLY REALLY slim.

Easily fatigued and Dizzy.. What's wrong here??
You probably should call your doc. If you are sleeping a lot and get winded after a short walk (and didn't before the surgery) you MAY have something a bit more serious than just adjusting to liquids only. I didn't even get protein my first week and didn't feel like you do (and yes I know we're all different...but your symptoms 1 week post op sound a little severe). Call your doc to be on the safe side, ok?

1st fill - reflux, and headache
Of course, Susan is correct. If you can't keep fluids down, you're probably too tight, and you can become dehydrated pretty easily. And some do swell after a fill but 4ccs is a pretty aggressive fill and you may need a little removed. If you still can't keep liquids down, call your doctor. :frown:

How long after swallow do u know ur stuck?
Yes we call it stuck but it isn't exactly.

Lapband Slippage
You probably won't know. Your surgeon will run tests. But symptoms that I've read on here include either suddenly losing all restriction (and it doesn't come back) or conversely suddenly being unable to even swallow your own spit. But as you can see these are vague symptoms and can indicate other things too (a fill kicking in, a leak in your port or tubing, etc). Also often (but not always) present are pain with each bite of food, nausea, etc. GERD (persistent acid reflux) can also be a symptom..of a slip, or other issues! THere is no set list of symptoms that positively indicates a slip. From what I've read, the MAJOR cause is being too tight and overeating. And the percentage of slips is relatively low, about 5% or so, i think. So take home from this is: do follow the diet given you by your doc, don't consistently overeat/pack your pouch, and if you have a sudden change or pain tell your surgeon.

question on pills!
Hmmm Dilaudid is a narcotic too... Holli if I were you I'd just make sure I had some liquid tylenol on hand. That really did it for me. Just be cautious taking the dilaudid if you had such a severe reaction to hydrocodone (your doc knows what he's doing, I'm just passing along a tip!) Remember too if you take it it can constipate you (as can all opioid narcotics) so keep an eye on that too.

Anyone else indecisive?
I'm almost 1 year post op. Not as long as some, longer than others. But I can say at this point, with all my heart, that my ONLY ONLY regret was that they didn't have this surgery when I was 30.
