  1. Brent you need to call your surgeon. Most of us do PB at some point, but vomiting this early can cause a slip or other problems. You shouldn't be so restricted that you vomit. I don't mean to be gross, but you are just ingesting fluids; they should go through fine. Too tight people vomit up their saliva, or fluids they try to drink. So I wonder if you are abnormally swollen or, as I said, filled during surgery and now it's too much. EITHER way; even if now you can drink just fine, call your doc. At the least they'll prescribe something for nausea (were you nauseated?) and can tell you what to take for gas etc. If he's closed, call the after-hours number. Don't let it go on all night; there's no reason to suffer! And he needs to know you vomited. OK? Let me know, if you think of it, and good luck!
  2. Either you're still swollen from the surgery (common) OR your doc filled some during surgery (it's done, IMHO it's mean) or both. I think you're still ok; but if your doc is still open call and tell him/her. If not, just try to sip water tonight, or depending on what's on your list of approved foods, something warm. (that will help things pass) Did he approve anything like broth, or decaf coffee, anything warm that you like and can have?
  3. Burping is very normal. Go ahead and drink and burp. Hydrocodone/vicodin has vomiting as a common side effect; I can't take it for that reason. They make "Adult" Liquid tylenol; get and take that. And if your surgeon allows, buy and use some gas x (chewable or strips)...that helps break the gas up. Otherwise, just drink your fluids and burp. If you don't get enough in you'll get dehydrated.

14th day of clear liquids post op...

Check with your surgeon before chewing gum (sugarless or otherwise) There can be issues with it (gas from swallowed air, peristalsis from chewing and salivating with the gum, and "stuck" issues depending on your fill level) and some surgeons prefer their patients just stay away from it.

Getting a grip of the rules?

For me it's much easier to do "the right thing" (although I do NOT sip my water, tea etc. I drink. I dont gulp or chug, but I'm not and won't ever be a sipper. What a pain!) but since I hit my sweet spot in May, while I don't have to think about it as much, it isn't automatic all the time yet. I can get distracted (by conversation or whatever) and relapse. It happens less and less frequently though. It's easier than you'd think to get the knack.

    realize band vs. Lap band

Yes some here do have the Realize band and in fact, if you'll scroll on down throught the forums you'll find an area dedicated to "Realize Band Surgery".

    eeeeeek what happens????

Depends on your surgeon, and why s/he wanted/needed you to lose the weight. Many of us aren't given a number, just a preop diet.
  9. I drink Iced tea, cold Water, I eat leftovers directly from the refrigerator, no problems whatsoever. On the rare occasions that I have, say, a frozen cocktail, ice cream, a milkshake...no problems there either. Very cold (and very hot) liquids can cause esophageal spasms in some people. If it causes you pain, just avoid cold stuff, or hold it in your mouth a little longer so your body can warm it. It's no unlike, say, eating a popsicle or snow cone too fast when you were a kid and "freezing your throat". Usually it requires a quantity of the "offending item" ingested fairly quickly. Slowing down should help

    Why isn't this working?

Getting good restriction is important, and eating the right foods is also important. Why can't you get good restriction? Is something wrong with your band? you do know that as you lose, and sometimes just "over time" you lose restriction? It too me 7 fills and 1 unfill to get to my sweet spot. When did you give up? What are you eating?

    Medicaid

Since Medicaid is state run, you're safest to just call and ask. I know that it is in some states, because some here with medicaid are getting/have gotten the surgery. But you should call to find out.

    BCBS Cruel Game

Believe it or not a good percentage of people, when forced to do the 6 month diet, have success and decide that they "can", after all, do it on their own. Some insurance companies are notorious for the hoops they require their customers to jump through. Just do it; mark the time, consider its cheaper than paying for it out of pocket. You'll be 6 months older whether you do it or not; this way you also won't have 15-20k in debt.

    Anyone have a 5CC band?

I've heard of 4 (old style) 10, 10 and 14 (new AP S and AP L) from lap band, and 9 (old Realize) and 11 (new realize) but never 5 cc. From either Lap Band OR Realize. Until today, your post.

    Your Attitude Towards "Treats"

This is for life. I can't imagine never having certain foods. I just eat. I try to eat a wide variety. If sometimes that includes ice cream or a cookie or potato chips, so be it. Food is just food and the more I treat it like fuel instead of investing it with all the baggage and importance we usually give it, the better I do.

    Stomach Bug?

i agree, talk to you surgeon. Many of them want you to get an emergency unfill until it passes.

    Anyone have a 5CC band?

    I didn't even know they made a 5 cc band. I've heard of 4, 9, 10 11 and 14 but not 5! :mad2:

    Under or overfilled?

Some people DO vomit more easily than others! But your worst case is to have to go back AND pay if you wait. If liquids don't go through well you're probably too tight. A very slight unfill probably won't put you back to "no restriction" but will lessen the chance of a slip because you PB etc too much. Just a guess here, and I don't blame you not wanting to take the time, but liquids have got to be able to go through easily, at least to my way of thinking. If they can't, then food REALLY won't be able to.

14th day of clear liquids post op...

Respectfully, I would've asked "well, is it ONE week, or TWO" but that's just me. The Doc TOLD her at the post op appt she was only supposed to be on liquids one week, so apparently he had a grasp of the situation. When I was told "usually one week" I'd have called to clarify. I'm not saying the OP was wrong; understand! She did what she thought was right (and WOOT! for making it so long!) but communication flows 2 ways.

    Under or overfilled?

Although i would NEVER try to make myself vomit just to see if I vomited up anything (but then before the band in my 53 years i had vomited about a total of 4 times...I'm a one-way kind of girl) if I were as tight as you I'd go get .2 cc removed. Often a VERY slight unfill does the trick.

    Nicotine Blood Test

The patch releases VERY low levels of nicotine into your bloodstream. If your surgeon wants to test you, just tell him you're on the patch and will test positive because of it. I'm sure he can adjust the results accordingly.

    Where do I start?

My PCP sent me to a group that didn't accept my insurance so I wasted time. I didn't need a PCP referral, and if I'd just started with my insurance it would've gone faster. They require we go to only certain surgeons etc. So you can start with the docs but it may just delay you, like it did me.

    Nicotine Blood Test

I don't know for sure but THINK it can take up to a week or two to clear. It depends on many things, including how much is "slipped a little bit" If you're going to be tested before then you're safest to just tell your surgeon.

    Pre Surgery Question

That depends on many many factors including your insurance and it's requirements, you and your general overall health, your surgeon and how busy/booked his schedule is, and the facility he uses and how busy IT is. For me it was about a month. Some it takes as long as a year. The surgeon should address timing tomorrow at the seminar.
