  1. I'm so sorry, that is really difficult. I experienced something somewhat similar. When I was about 3 weeks out my mom fell and broke her elbow and I completely spiraled and ate whatever I could, I was depressed and I drank alcohol. So when I went to my 6 weeks appointment they were disappointed that I didn't lose more. However, my dietician tried to not be judgey and try to work with me to get back on track. She looked at my log and told me to stay focused on Proteins, Vitamins, Water, and if I have room vegetables, also finding the formula for Miralax so I can relieve Constipation. I also didn't see my surgeon I saw his assistant.

Okay so to your question, honestly its so hard. I've been blessed to have a therapist so I meet with her every other week to deal with my mental health because that's part of it. I'm trying to take time to be disciplined, dedicated and intentional. I keep working really hard every day to stick to that book they gave me before surgery and I try really hard not to compare myself to others. Some people bodies are just so different and I keep telling myself to keep going. But the reality is that I still cruise this site to see where everyone else was at this week or that week. And while sometimes it helps me there are a lot of times where it doesn't help.

My best advice would be, if you can work closely with your dietician to try to find something that you can eat without discomfort. Keep repeating that and stay steady and give yourself some grace.

  2. You'll probably start the liver shrinking diet soon, which can be difficult, but start to write some reasons down to help you through the mental side of that process. Your team will tell you exactly what you need to do. Make sure you follow it closely as much as you can.

Also please know that everyone experience is different. After my insurance approved me and my surgeon gave me a date I started the liver shrinking diet and then a week before my surgery I had to have a day of testing. I had an EKG, blood work, and upper GI imaging. After the results I was cleared for surgery.

After that I paid the initial surgeon fee which was around $500 something and then I paid the hospital a down payment of $2,700 and then after that I had my surgery a few days later.

    Does that help? More questions?

  3. I won't get on the scale. I am still learning that this is a tool. I got frustrated with my self because I had a family emergency and I moved on to soft foods earlier. Sometimes I feel like food is stuck in my throat but I try to slow down and keep moving forward. In any case I'm walking almost 10 miles every week and using MFP. I have to count calories!

I hope you all are doing well!

Hello, everyone this is my first time here. So happy I found this group. I am in the home stretch. My surgery is November 23. Any tips????

Give yourself grace and patience also don't do too much to fast. I had surgery on the 29th and I'm struggling I had to go back to work after a week because I haven't been on my job long enough for FMLA *eye roll* and also I didn't have enough vacation time. Whatever time you can take off use it!

I'm have my surgery Friday is there anymore last advice you can give to feel less nervous.

I have surgery on Friday too and I'm honestly so anxious! I just want it to be over. I also don't have anyone here in the city I live in. I know I can get through this as I've always had a "can do" attitude I'm just nervous.

I am on the same boat. I had my slip up today and had a bagel I was craving then Protein Shakes the rest of the day. I am freaking out thinking every possible scenario. My surgery is Tuesday. Realistically, I don’t think one or minimal slip ups will alter the plan developed by your doctor.
    Good luck in your surgery.

I am finding the liver shrinking diet to be unbearable! This weekend I really messed up and surgery is Friday. I'm sticking to it now but I am worried.

  8. Ok did the preop testing today...and I promise I was so ignorant!

So had a oxygen test with blood from my wrist which is the worst place I ever gave blood.

Then I had an ultrasound and some x-rays and drank some terrible fizzy stuff and had to roll all over the bed to take pictures. Ugh at least the girls were really cool about it and didn't make me feel uncomfortable. (TMI: It came out and I was fasting)

After all that went to preop and did an EKG and was cleared for surgery and then hit with the bill $5000 something. So now I'm grasping at straws to get at least half paid so I can have this surgery done. I faith in the Lord and this is something I want to get done so bad and I've already kicked out at least $1000 for surgeon fees. This is covered by insurance but just wasn't expecting the hospital portion to be so much. Oh well. Just wanted to give some insight because I really was ignorant.

Surgery 10/28 so excited. Has anyone failed with pre-op liver shrinking diet???

I’m on the 29th! Let’s go! I am on day 4 and the first two days were extremely hard. But I keep reading horror stories so I’m trying my best to stick to it!

  10. So I am starting my preop diet a little early, I'm really concerned about the size of my liver. I feel focused right now but I am at work. I ended up just getting frozen meals because I love to cook and I tend to overeat big time. I'm so excited and nervous. Ganbatte everyone! Fighting! Let's Go!

How difficult was it for y'all to find a surgeon who accepts the insurance?

I actually researched my insurance to see if they would cover it. My insurance has a website where they can give you an estimate of costs. I found the center that would do it and did the orientation. However I think a lot of people go through their primary care doctors for a referral or letter of support. I'm currently starting the process of getting everything I need and my center is being very helpful.

It took less than 5 days for them to approve. I had to do 3 months of check-ins, and show a little weight loss. Now if they would allow elective surgeries here in Jacksonville, Fl.

I just seen my surgeon today and I'm hearing that they are not doing surgeries in Gainesville currently. But I'm hoping by the time I complete everything it will be back on track.
