I'm so sorry your going through this. I also had surgery on 11/22 and then Friday after Thanksgiving was super sick. Called ambulance Saturday at like 5am and ended up being rushed into a second surgery for an internal hernia repair and a bow obstruction caused by one of my stitches popping from my bypass surgery. I need to go get my blood drawn too because my numbers are off. Co2 is low and my anion Gap and potassium are High. Our bodies went through a lot having two surgeries. Do the best you can, follow your discharge instructions and listen to your body. Goodluck!!

Yeah a home health nurse comes once a week to take blood for lab tests and change my bandage on my central line.

  2. HI all!!! So I had my bypass on 11/17/21 a few days after I started getting really nauseous and couldn't eat of drink. The Friday after Thanksgiving I begin throwing up massive amounts of blood and clots. My surgeon rushed me to ER. They did a CT scan and everything looked good. They admitted me and started fluids. over the next week I had an endoscopy and a text on my gallbladder. The endoscopy showed no new blood but my stomach lining was VERY irritated. The gallbladder test showed it was not draining properly. He decided he was going to remove it. At the same time he was getting concerned because my numbers were out of whack and my Protein levels were dropping. They put a central line in and began feeding me TPN through it. Gallbladder surgery went well and he was very happy he removed it because it was very distended.

I was discharged a week ago with TPN. So now I am home with my central line and TPN every night. I still can't really eat anything and even drinking causes me pain and nausea.

    Anyone experience ANY of this???

@sleeversk with your reflux being so bad why did your surgeon do the sleeve? Gastric bypass is what supposedly rids you of reflux (I’m still waiting for my surgery so I can not positively confirm that yet)

That is exactly what I was thinking. I have severe, severe, severe acid reflux and gastro paresis and my surgeon 100% said the sleeve would only make it all worse. I am scheduled to have a bypass in 2 weekes.

It absolutely is! I just returned home this morning from receiving the sleeve and I was feeling all of those emotions going in on Monday for the surgery!

Overall I'm feeling good! The procedure went great, I had an awesome care team, and my pain is tolerable. The first sip of Water post- procedure was scary and did not feel good (I expelled it back up). However, I've been sipping well since then...

I highly recommend you have some ice packs on hand (because you'll need them) for the largest incision. I'm also on a clear liquid diet so having broth, Water, cranberry and apple juice on hand is helpful as well!

Cheers to all of the new and improved lifestyles beginning this month! 🌠

Does the apple juice upset your stomach because of the sugar??

I’m so glad to “know” some people here finally having bypass in December. It is good to have more in number so we can encourage each other. I’ve been trying to read and prepare myself with some of the great books one of the members posted about. I am new here but excited to learn more and be a support for each other!

What are some of the books you are reading?

I’m starting to feel the same way worried if I can do this and just worried in general

Exactly!!! I know I can work out and I know I can watch what I eat. But can I really stick to the diet like I will need to. I am worried about dumping pain, if I do mess up. Nothing scares me enough not to do this, but just worried. And I feel like December is forever away.

  7. Like everyone else said it varies. My insurance did not require anything. My doctor required:

1 pre-op nutrition meeting, 1 psych evaluation, EKG and Blood work, and because I have gastroparesis I had to have a MRI and X-ray.

I have now completed all that so we will be setting a date next week.

I might just eat a little every day for the next few weeks until I start my pre-op diet. I already ate a little and it seems rude to give away ice cream with some taken out! Plus... I kinda still want some 🙄

Eat just a little each day until your pre-op diet starts. It's going to be a while till you can even think about eating it after your surgery.

Hello new to this forum! I’m in the SA area I just talk to my insurance and they said there is no waiting requirement I just have to meet the BMI is that normal!? And is the surgery dates always really far away ?

Welcome!!!! And that is what my insurance told me too. I have my consultation with surgeon on the 6th so I will find out then if there are any requirements. As far as dates.... depends on requirements I think.

Yes he actually sent me some along with a letter and stuff. I am going to try to do it sooner. Like the 20th or so. So I can have more time to watch the videos. I believe the videos start at 1030 and are every hour until 3.

I was just watching a video of him doing a bypass but there is no volume. Or at least I couldn't get it to work LMAO 🤣

You do have to watch the videos I believe there are 6 and 5 of them you can watch from home after the first one in the office which is the one they only do on Fridays.

I absolutely will try to schedule that day!!!

We love Texas too. I never felt at home until we moved here. If you can take your first nutrition class the same day as your appointment get it done! It's a pain and only on Fridays. I haven't done mine yet, I need to get that done lol

That is exactly how I felt when I moved here.

Was that the only requirement. I hope it is the same for me. Is the nutrition class only 1 day? Let me know what day did you schedule yours?
