  1. Love this thread! I'm getting excited for my procedure in January I cannot wait. My stomach is sick to death from overeating. I had been doing so great on my diet this summer and now that I'm closer to my date - all I want to do is "eat all the junk that I won't be able to eat later on". Stupid logic.
no worries, your stomach will DEFINITELY punish you, if you attempt to over eat,lol

  2. Post op day 12
    Praise be, purées, praise be!
    i am human again [emoji119]
ok, so last night (so mere hours from purées day), I had about 2 oz of the most delicious mashed potatoes and gravy from Popeyes. My husband was ordering and i said “oooo order me mash and gravy”. I also had 3 tiny pinches of the biscuit. It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
And this morning I had 2 oz applesauce. And then for lunch and dinner I had 2 oz of the best grits of my entire life.

i tried a Protein Water today. Ick! I need to find something
i don’t know how some people don’t want the foods they used to eat. It’s all I think about. It’s a little concerning. I think about stuffing myself with all the food. I miss being able to overeat. Obviously, I want to change otherwise I wouldn’t have had this surgery. But if anyone thinks this is the cure to your food desires, it simply isn’t true. I truly don’t know if I will see the success others do. Time will tell.

the mashed potatoes sat well with you? Im afraid to try it, had RNY on the 1st.

  4. Post op day 4
    Feeling worse than yesterday [emoji30]
I came home yesterday and I felt ok for a while. I managed half of a Protein Water mixed with Miralax and a little extra water.
I attempted Bone Broth, and just typing it makes me want to gag.
today was to be full liquids. I have managed about 24 oz water and maybe a third of a fairlife shake. I also started Vitamins today, and good Lord! Those multi Vitamin chewables from Bariatric Advantage didn’t seem as big prior to surgery! My dietitian wanted me taking two of those beasts, I managed 1 and a half.
I feel icky in my tummy all day. I’ve been soooooo sleepy and freezing! I was anemic prior to surgery and got my period early [emoji849] so I’m probably even more so now.
I have been in bed most of the day with the exception of walking to the bathroom, I guess the half a miralax did something. I’m producing watery bright yellow stools, in minimal quantities…I can’t trust a toot. I think the thiamine supplement I was on (and should still be taking, but haven’t been able to) is causing the bright yellow color.
It has been so nice being in my bed.
the abdomen pain isn’t bad, just getting up from lying down is a little painful.

my 5.5 year old boy has been so sweet, bringing me gifts he’s made me.
im going make myself get up now and walk around the house for 5 min.

I might see what Panera’s Soup look like, if they qualify as full liquid.

Oh! Also, I was told to take the omeprazole capsule and open it and mix with apple sauce. Is applesauce allowed at this point? Or is it just for taking medication?

aww...i feel for you. But im suprised about the Vitamins, my drs office told me to start 2 weeks after surgery. Yesterday was my 14th day and youre right, the Vitamins look huge prior to surgery. It gets better as time goes, pls rest.

  5. I'm "auditioning" Protein Shakes during my self-imposed pre-op diet.
So far I really like OWYN ("Only What You Need"), except the chocolate flavor is disgusting. And it's 35g plant Protein in 355 ml (12 oz), and it is still palatable at room temperature, given that I'm going to be sip-sip-sipping on it for an hour or two.
Premier Protein is... just okay. (I hear the cafe latte flavor is good but it's also caffeinated which makes it a no-go).
    What else should I audition?
I'm not planning to buy a ton of any one thing, knowing (from y'all!) that my tastes are likely to change post-op.

Please try Fairlife Core Power shakes. I love the strawberry/banana flavor. Tastes just like a milkshake. I am 8 days post op RNY and bought one battle to try and it was so good, i drank it in an hour. Yesterday i tried vanilla flavor, it was pretty good. I placed a order of 7 bottles for Walmart pick up today, for strawberry/banana. Let me know if you tried it.

  6. Hi all I’m a newbie! I’ll be 3 days post op as of tomorrow from gastric sleeve surgery. I came home from the hospital after an overnight stay yesterday afternoon. Anyway I have a couple of questions.

Has anyone have difficulty sleeping? I only sleep an hour here and there. It’s because I’m afraid of getting dehydrated if I’m not drinking enough fluids.
I have wicked dry mouth since my surgery. When I talk it feels like I have a mouth full of cotton and no one can understand me. Then I start coughing. Boy does that hurt my belly. Has anyone experienced that and what do you recommend?

I saw my PCP on the 5th, she said the dry mouth means youre dehydrated and thats dangerous. She said, to take constant sips of Water, to get rid of it. Im on top of that, so i feel less dry mouth. Pls becareful because if you dont hydrate youll have to go to the ER for fluids. Im tired of needles. Did you have to get an IV placed on each arm?

  7. The reason I am creating this thread is solely for support. I know by 1st hand how intimidating this process can be. With the mere thought of should ldl do it? I can tell you that I was not a walk in the ballpark. But I am so happy I took this decision. Today I am 5 days RNY AND hiatal hernia repair post-op. I feel fatigued, yet happy. Sore, yet excited. I can use many more adjectives. Please share and ask.

me too! had my RNY on the 1st with hiatal hernia repair. Im sore on the larger incision, and yes like you im watching the clock to drink Water and Protein Drinks. Walking does tire me out physically and my abdomen pain worsens. Like yesterday i went to 4 stores with my mom and son, and had to find a chair to sit at every store visit. Im guessing i need this walk, but wow, its tiring! Good luck and pls update

  8. I'm on day 3 of my 2 week liquid pre-op diet before the sleeve. Hunger hasn't been too bad though it's been emotionally much rougher than I realized. But, I am so done with Protein Shakes, I feel like if I drink another one I'll puke. So my question is, how important is the Protein at this stage if it's just to shrink my liver? Wouldn't just eating nothing also work? Because at this point that sounds like a better alternative.

I had my RYN on Nov 1st. I cheated on my liquid diet everyday. I had soda crackers, burger patty, etc. But no other drink besides Water and ate once a day, and made it, and lost 10lbs in the one week liquid diet. My surgeon said my surgery was great no issues. And now that i depend on Protein Drinks, its a new thing and like it. Yes, your hungry flies out the window, so have to keep on top of your liquids. Yesterday i had "fairlife straberry and bannas" shake, and i fell so deep in love. It tastes just like a milkshake and drank the whole thing under an hour. And tolerated well. You will know when you are "full" because when you feel like something is stuck in your throat, then you stop and wait for it to pass. Since my surgery date today, lost 7lbs.
    Good luck!

  9. Congratulations on your journey to a healthier life. I had terrible asthma due to my long surgery and anesthesia (6hrs). I had to go back to the ER after going home because it was getting worse and couldn’t use steroids (slows healing). Then the team was worried it was a blood clot. Eventually the WL team realized it truly was asthma due to anesthesia and gave me a shot of Vitamin A and a half dose shot of steroids. If you still have a harder time breathing, say something while still in the hospital. Ask about vitamin A. Truly best wishes to you on your journey!
Oh man, thats horrible. Yes i had another chest xray at dawn as a followup. And got an inhaler also

  10. Congratulations, you have done amazing. I dont know what to think about robotic surgeons. Its a bit like driverless trains and pilotless airplanes. If I were having that procedure, I dont want to know until after the event. Keep walking and everything will improve.
yes, i wasnt aware it was robotic till i was settled in and nurse told me. I was impressed. Im ok with it since pain is minimum

  12. Hi. I had my gastric bypass July 2019 and also struggling. I’m older than you (62) and I have gained back 30 pounds after losing 140 pounds. It can be overwhelming.
im curious about the weight gain on the RYN, how is that possible with having no stomach? What is it that stretches? I thought with RYN weight gain was tougher? Im having my RYN tomorrow.

  15. Just received my surgery date and I'm excited and nervous. After losing my husband 4yrs ago I put on over 150lbs and actually ended up in the hospital & almost lost my life because of it. Promised my daughter I'd do whatever it took to not scare her like that again, so here I am 4 weeks out. I changed my whole way of eating but I have medical issues that prevent me from working out so I dropped the Water weight but now struggling to drop more.

Can I ask what it's like after the surgery to those who have had it? That is my biggest apprehension, I so want to be done with blood pressure diabetic and other meds so I can't wait to drop this weight so I can have my knee replacement and hernia surgery. Been living in a fog too long and I so want this for a better, healthier life.

    how did your surgery go?

  17. Some doctors don't do a liver shrinking diet. I followed mine nearly perfectly, but mine was not liquid. So, there is a lot of variation. Don't panic; when I talked to the scheduler at my clinic and told her one of the meals I had probably had more oil than it should have, she said that wouldn't be an issue and that some people don't follow the diet at all. It just makes the surgery and recovery easier if you follow the diet.
I've heard of some surgeons cancelling surgery if the liver is too fragile, but I think that's pretty rare. I've only seen one person on here mention that. And I've been pretty addicted to this board since March!
wow really!!! this is my liquid diet week, and yesterday i had regular meals. And told myself today is a new day and have 6 days to go. But i cant be tempted to mess up. lol
