How Much Have You Lost So Far?

Hi KayleighsMommy, You sound alot like me. I was banded June 9, 2008. I lost alot quick then have been doing nothing but yo-yoing with 5-10 lbs for the last 6 months. It definately gets frustrating. I started at 321 and I am down to 271 give or take a few depending on the day. What have or havent' you been doing that you think is compromising your weight loss. With me my head isn't in it like it should be. I am not giving it 100%, probably only about 50% Kim

    Your NO-NO list

do you think that if you eat beans they swell afterwards? I ate baked beans about 1/2 cup at lunch and the rest of the day anything I ate or drank seemed to come back up Kim
  3. I am having a similar problem. Banded in June 08 I have lost 60lbs-on some days it goes up 5lbs. its has been going back and forth for about a month. I am hungry and I can eat yogurt, or protein shake in the morning but in the afternoon I will PB with all the foods I should be eating-turkey, chicken, salmon, etc... and have started eating bad stuff because I am so hungry and it doesn't make me PB. I am not sure what to do. Am I swollen because I have been PB'ing or am I too tight or too loose. I can eat a whole baked potato with broccoli, mushrooms and cheese at dinner but forget protein???????????????????????? I am not complaining because I know I have good weight loss so far, but I am also frustrated. Kim

    Slider Foods oh NO

I am having some isssues as well and I wonder should I unfill or not. I had a fill around mid August and it was perfect. A couple of weeks ago it got too tight-I got a slight unfill. Now I am back to being able to eat mashed potatoes, soup, vegetable meatballs but any turkey, chicken, salmon, shrimp comes back up. I spoke to the nurse who said since I have a sinus infection I might be inflammed and wait a few days to see if it gets better. In the meantime today I am eating yogurt and chocolate!!!!!!! I feel like I am on a sugar frenzy, I feel like I am sooo hungry and frustrated:unsure:any thoughts?
  5. Deep breathe-everything is going to be okay. I am a very anxious person and I got thru this surgery with ease. No pain, a little discomfort with gas. I was up walking and going to the bathroom as soon as I was wheeled back to my room. The only problem I had was I had to sleep sitting semi-upright on the couch for two days-it was uncomfortable flat. I took only Ibuprofen for pain for the first two days. I was out of work for only two days. This is very minor compared to gastric bypass. good luck to you

    Need to gain weight!!!!

Salt, Salt, and more salt. Pizza, chinese food both have tons of salt and will cause water retention. Good luck to you

    Fat stories

Lets see, there are too many to actually write all of them down. -I sat in a chair and it splintered and all 4 legs broke off -I went to Six Flags and got on a Water ride (round water rafts) with my son, who was about 6 at the time. I had to get off because the seatbelt wouldn't click-I had to let my son ride the ride without me:crying: -this is a good one I was backing out of a store parking lot with my hubby's truck and a car goes whizzing behind me really, really fast-he then squeals his tires into a parking space and the car comes to an abrupt stop-I look and see an infant car seat facing backwards in the back seat. I was upset-the only thing that came out of my mouth was "nice driving" and for a reply I recieved "eat another cheeseburg, fatty". I know I shouldn't have said anything but I was really down about the comment. I have lost 56 lbs on lapband so far and was really feeling good about myself and now I am thinking obviously I still look quite obese:thumbdown: -everywhere we go, whether its camping or a soccer game my husband brings "my chair" because I know it will hold me and I won't break it. -unable to tie my own shoes -broke a toilet before -someone told me the floor and furniture shake when I walk -my son 4yrs old at the time asking "mommy, why is your butt soooo big" I wish you looked like the other mom's at preschool My goal-to go to disneyworld with my hubby and kids 8 &10-something I have been putting off because of my size. Some good things: I went on vacation to Maryland this summer and was able to: -go down the waterslide -bike and hike with my family and not be out of breath -walk for 1 hr every night -sit crosslegged -tie my shoes -sit in other chairs without worrying about breaking them -slide into a booth with ease -have my husband and kids put their arms around my waist and say "You feel smaller"
  8. I would see If I could change physicians. I don't know if that is possible where you live but if you could I would. We go through our lives being overweight and ridiculed and now try to do something positive and THE DOCTOR is going to ridicule you-that is completely unacceptable.

just had a fill....a little worried

Have you tried anything but liquids? How are the liquids going down? Are you coughing on your saliva or anything? I just had 0.5cc of saline taken out of my band today. I got a fill on 8/14 and it was perfect but for the last week I have been getting tighter and tighter. Today I couldn't even eat a whole container of yogurt then I PB'd turkey and cheese at lunch and I felt like I was coughing on my saliva. When I went in they said I definately was getting too tight. Let me know.

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

Hi everyone, I would love to join this support thread. I was banded this last June and have lost 55lbs so far. I started exercising about 3 weeks ago. I am up to 1hr-1hr 10min and I am doing some jogging intervals especially up the hills on my route. My husband, brother in law and sister in law all do the Manchester Road Race on Thanksgiving which is 4.7miles. They are encouraging me to go. They also have a place for walkers after the runners. Do you think it is possible with this link to be able to jog/run 4.7 within this time frame using the link you all have been using? I would really like to do this-I just am feeling a little unsure of myself at the moment.

    no clue

I have never heard of a "MILK" diet. I was banded on June 9th and my MD put me on a 10 day liquid pre-op diet in which I had 3 protein shakes daily along with a cup of cottage cheese and a cup of yogurt daily. This is supposed to shrink your liver so the doctor can get at your stomach to put the band in. Milk does have protein in it and maybe that is why your MD has you doing it. For me the pre-op diet was the hardest part of the whole process -if you can make it thru that everything else will be easier. The surgery is actually a relatively safe and quick procedure. I have lost 55lbs since June so instead of getting scared get PUMPED-you are going to be skinny and feeling great:tongue:

    Losing weight but feeling fat?

I have been experiencing the same thing. I obviously new I was fat but didn't look at myself much and truly didn't realize how morbidly obese I was. It was almost as if I just blocked it out. Now that I have lost 55 lbs from 321-266 I can look down and see this HUUUGGGE lower abdomen that looks like a truck tire and everything is mushy and jiggly. It is really weird but I wonder if it is because we are paying more attention to our bodies. I am definately happy with my progress but I guess I will keep going through these stages until I reach goal.

Where is all the CT Lapbanders??

Hi, I am from Enfield, Ct. I was banded on June 9, 2008. My MD is Dr. Darren Tishler from Hartford Hospital. He a great MD and very supportive. I have lost 55lbs since my preop diet May 31st. I had my husbands insurance-CTcare which didn't cover the surgery so I picked up BC/BS at my work and it was covered 80/20.

RN's How long did you take off work?

I am also a nurse-a staff educator. I had the surgery on a Tuesday and went back to work on Friday. I really had no problems or pain at all after the surgery. The worst part is the liquid pre-op diet I had to go on 10 days prior to surgery-but all Dr.'s don't have the same criteria. Also for one week following the surgery I was on liquids and that made me feel a little tired out. Good luck to you, you will feel wonderful and full of energy!!!!!!!! I had my lapband done on June 9th and I am 55lbs down already-Life gets good:smile:

If in doubt, TAKE IT OUT!!

Thanks for the imput-that is one thing I haven't done-go back to liquids after sliming or PBing-maybe that is my issue. I am going to get on liquids tommorow and see if it makes a difference. Thanks so much:smile:

If in doubt, TAKE IT OUT!!

I am wondering if I need an unfill or not? I had my last fill about 2 weeks ago and it seemed like it was perfect. I have been following everything religiously-about 1/2 cup food each meal, protein first, no drinking 1hr before/1hr after, walking 1hr daily. I lost 8lbs in these two weeks but.... all of the sudden I feel tighter and feel like I am able to eat less. Today 1 protein drink, 1/2 piece cheese and 6 grapes-they got stuck, I think they needed to be chewed more, about 1/2 cup chicken, 3 tbsp mashed potatoes, 3 slices cucumber for dinner. Tonight I ate 3 small slices of turkey and it got stuck and I threw up again. Last night same thing, I ate 1/2 of a protein bar and it got stuck. I feel like it is getting tighter and tighter... has anyone experienced this?:crying:

    Very Depressed,...

I am going thru the same thing. I was banded on June 9th. I have lost 42 lbs total but 15 of it was due to the pre-op diet. I have had three fills so far and I still don't feel too much restriction. I have thrown up if I have eaten turkey and cheese too fast but other than that I feel I can eat quite a bit. My weight went back and forth between 37-40lbs for about 3 weeks then I finally went down two more lbs. today I ate a vegetable and cheese egg beater omlet (hold the toast and home fries), a half of a roast beef dip sandwich and a small caesar salad for lunch and THREE pieces of pizza and a very small piece of cake for supper. I am starving right now!! I don't know if it is the food choices I made or what. For a few days I was eating mainly protein with just raw veggies and my weight was down but I was still hungry and didn't feel that great. I have a friend who had the band and lost close to 100 lbs in a year. When I am with her she eats very little and gets full very quickly and that just isn't happening here. Kim:confused:

    My first fill FINALLY!!

I am so scared. I am 4 weeks post op and 2 weeks ago I saw the Dr. for my first visit. I told him how I was on puree but was able to eat alot more than a cup and was scared. He said the swelling is going down around the port and because I lost 35 lbs the fat being gone it is loosening my stomach. Well he said to go on solids so I did and I have fallen back into my old habits of sugar, carbs, and uncontrolled hunger. I was not hungry at all and had no cravings for the first two weeks. I am seeing him tommorow for my first fill. He is letting me get it 2 weeks early because I had progressed. BUT I am so nervous because I have been reading about eating too much and having your stomach digesting can cause the band to eventually slip because the band is stitched to your stomach and needs to heal. I did not realize it was stitched to the stomach. I hope to God nothing is wrong and I didn't ruin for myself. I am very discouraged also and feel like crap because I have been eating like crap. Anyone have any comments/suggestions Kim:sad_smile:
  20. I just got banded on June 9th. I have lost 30 lbs so far. I felt great, I was not hungry and already got off 3 of my medications. Problem-I have been so hungry since starting puree. Dr. said I could start regular but I feel like I can eat a ton and am still hungry. Last two days have been eating sugar, sugar, carbs. I feel like I am spiraling out of control. It is too early for this. I would like to find someone to mentor me who has been through this and is an emotional eater/sugar carb addict. Is there anyone out there willing to help me?? I would really appreciate it. I hope to hear from someone soon. Thanks Alot, Kim:smile2:

How Much Have You Lost So Far?

i was banded on june 9th. I have lost 30 lbs since pre-op diet on may 31st.
  22. Hi, My name is Kim and I just had lap band 4 weeks ago. I have lost 30 lbs since beginning the pre op diet on May 31st. I went to the dr. for my 2 week follow up. He said I was doing great. I was concerned because the week I started on puree I was starving all of the time and I could eat at least a cup of food and still be hungry. He said that the swelling is going down around the band and that makes the band looser. He said to eat until satisfied and he will fill me at 4 weeks (which is this Wednesday) I feel like I am getting out of control already because I am always hungry. My weight has been up and down a couple of lbs every day since. Is this a common occurance? I feel like it is really discouraging. I feel like I don't even have the band in. Any comments would be helpful. Thanks in advance, Kim:ohmy::confused2::tt2:
