I just called the distributor at Original Slush Mug He was so nice.. BUT THEY CAN'T SHIP TO CANADA!!! Gonna cry... I luv LUV my slurpees and I think this would be the ticket... is there anyone out there willing to order one for me - I'd send you a certified cheque... Yah - this would be great to have post-surgery. I get my band on Aug 20th. Thanks!
  3. You are all so amazing! These stories are so touching and we all understand each others' pain so very well. What inspirational proof we ALL are! There are SO many straws... - I have no children of my own so I look forward to being a Gramma to my step-children's kids one day. So one straw was having my 20 yr old step daughter say she won't bring her babies to me when she has some 'cuz I will make them fat :Banane03: - yeeeowch! - Barely being able to walk my dogs and seeing the longing in their eyes, when at one time I ran a 1/2 marathon and trained with them. - Having a child who doesn't know me make a comment that I should be on a diet - HAVING to be on TV for my job and hearing people whispering in public places "hey-it's that fat chick from those commercials!" - Having to watch myself when those same commercials are on the air - Those summer pictures that people take - I don't even bother to try to escape anymore. - And the final one that made me make the call to do this... my DH works out of town and surprised me by coming home on his 24 hour shift turn-around so we could have some romantic time. I showered and caught that "HOLY HELL!" :Banane11: glimpse in the bathroom mirror. I pretended I didn't feel well because I just couldn't let him touch me... SO GROSS!!!!! Well, being married for just under a year I said enough was enough. He deserves better and SO DO I. Years of fighting with this 100-80 pounds is OVER!! Thanks so much for sharing everyone... the bending over, wiping yourself, how's about cutting your toenails??? They are all straws and I am SO GRATEFUL for everyone sharing theirs!!! GOOD LUCK AND GOD'S BLESSINGS TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US!!!!!!:biggrin2:

    Strange reactions about surgery

Hey there Heather! Thanks SO MUCH for that... I guess I'm just so on the defensive after all the other comments I never considered that my doc's receptionist only meant maybe this actually will be an easier way for me after all the struggles she's seen me go through with my weight. Of course I immediately went into the "easy way out" mode with her comment - fight or flight mode as it were. I know that the band will help my portion control issues and can't wait to actually feel FULL with a reasonable amount of HEALTHY food for once. Thanks again - you are bang on sister!!

    Undergarments after surgery

Those are GREAT questions! I'm being banded in Mexico on Aug 20th. I was planning on my GREAT big panties (the elastic is shot so they barely stay up anyway), a loose fitting sports bra, a baggy tank top and the loosest shorts/capris that I have. I'm going to take my bathing suit top too so I can at least tan a bit on the 2 days following the surgery while we are at the hotel. GOOD THOUGHT on the Gas X stuff too! Never thought of that but I will definitely bring some. Who's doing your surgery? I have Dr. Kuri at Hospital Angeles Tijuana. :cool2:

    Who's Getting Banded in August???

This is such a great thread - I've found another gal on here who is getting banded at the same hospital, by the same surgeon as I am, the day before I do, so we are actually going to get to meet in person when we are both in early recovery!! How exciting is that!?!! I'm on the Canadian Prairies and she's in the US. Kiki'smom...can't wait to meet ya face to face!!! Tijuana here we COME!! :cool2:

    Strange reactions about surgery

The comments are so unthinking! Wow... "Do you know what your getting into?" Ummmmmm actually no - hadn't looked into this at all... "Are you sure it's safe?" Of course I'm not sure, honestly, I haven't done ANY research at all, just doing this on a whim DUMB AS*@!! "She's gained it all back before, she will again" Oh yah - I think THIS was my favorite comment. My sister said it to my mother and mum told me. Now THAT'S the spirit and support I was looking for. "Well if this makes it easier for you, why not!?" This one from my doctor's receptionist. Of course we ALL know it is going to be SUPER easy! All because it is a special sparkly magic band that eliminates everything we eat - c'mon you're a health professional..get a grip! And as for the "You'd better enjoy that now, you aren't going to get any after you do this". You know what, you are right I won't, but I am going to feel SO much better replacing it with another choice and looking ever so sexy when I DO it!! Yah - these comments seem to come from those folks who have never had to deal with obesity in the long run ever in their lives. They have no idea. And we have ALL done the work of losing (& gaining), losing (& gaining) and losing (& gaining) so many times, and spent so many thousands of dollars on gimmicks and tricks, I applaud us ALL for having the courage to find a better way to finally be healthy once and for all! I love the comeback answer too "I am watching what I eat very carefully, exercising more than ever and OH YAH... I had surgery to help in my efforts" I'm gonna use THAT one for sure!!! GREAT THREAD!!

    Who's Getting Banded in August???

Couldn't agree with you guys more - lovin' food and having it as a crutch is what brought me to this point too. To help with the pyschological side of why we overeat and eat the wrong things, try checking out "Shrink Yourself" www.shrinkyourself.com" It's not a diet at all, it just gets into the mental reasons WHY we do it to ourselves. It's really helping me with the whole mental side of this before I HAVE to stop. I'm scared too - I love having an ice cold beer on a hot summer day. The thought of giving that up is sad, but then thought of sippin' a Crystal Lite in a bikini top and sexy blue jeans kicks in and sure takes the sorrow away!! WE'RE GONNA BE FINE! More-over... WE ARE GONNA BE GREAT!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE ALL-STARS!!! Stace

    Who's Getting Banded in August???

Wow - what a powerful group of great people! So proud to be a part of it... I can see a whole lot of new friendships coming out of this - not to mention a whole world of support! AND I have tried my hand at adding a sparklie... let's see how I made out! LOVE our name... :tongue_smilie: Oooooooo - it's real pretty!!!
  11. Hi all - I'm getting my band on August 20th and am off work until the 25th. I have a desk job. Do you think that'll be long enough or should I be taking that Monday (the 25th) off as well? Thanks! SO EXCITED!!!
  12. WOW!!! I've been out of town and not had computer access since Thursday... coming back to all of your messages was just WONDERFUL! I was at a Country Music Festival (HUGE! 28,000 people... Toby Keith's ONLY Canadian stop!) and it was great. made sure I got in a few cold beer especially being that it will be off of the menu soon! :tongue_smilie: (I will miss it for sure) Oh well, I know that it will be worth it - totally worth it... So thank you so very very much everyone for responding to my question. I will definitely just play it by ear and see how I feel. I think my boss is going to be fairly sympathetic to me. She's very supportive of the decision and hopefully will go a bit easy on me if I need to leave partway through the early days back. Again - thanks a million and congratulations to ALL of you for your achievements! Looking at your "tickers" is true inspiration. God Bless You!! Stace :tt1:

    Who's Getting Banded in August???

Just got my date confirmation yesterday... headed to see Dr. Kuri in Tijuana - going self pay and that's OK! Can't wait to share all of our adventures on this great new journey! What a ride...
  14. Hi all - I am so excited and so ready for this!! I'm a 43 year old gal, over 240lbs with a BMI of >40. Well, I just had confirmation today that I have a surgery date of August 20th with Dr. Kuri in Tijuana Mexico! I live in Regina, SK Canada and through an exhaustive search, finally discovered this doctor, a manageable fee (forget the over ten thousand dollar + stuff...) an incredible patient facilitator, and the gorgeous state-of-the-art facility where the surgery will take place called Hospital Angeles Tijuana. Part of me is in disbelief, part of me is a bit scared, but the majority is a state of euphoria... this lifelong burden may finally be lifted by the grace of God... THANK GOODNESS! It was just getting far too heavy to carry it anymore... I'm tired of it and I just can not wait to turn my whole life in a new direction and get ON with LIVING! I found something else that is really helping too - it's called "Shrink Yourself" and it completely deals with the mental issues involved with overeating, and emotional eating... I can't recommend it enough. It, along with our lap band surgeries, are the perfect tools to let us lead to the place we've only dreamt we could go. LIFE IS GOOD!!!)

Got my date in Tijuana set today!

Hi Brandy - Thanks so much! You know, I don't mind the travelling and I LOVE Mexico anyway, plus I'd go anywhere if the surgeon, facility and price was right for me and this ALL suits the bill perfectly! Kiki, my husband and I will be leaving on Saturday the 23rd so not sure if we are going to the Bash but I'm still hoping to find out all about it so we can go to the next one. And tcl - I am self pay. I completely understand your dilemma! Prices at private facilities in Canada are between $16,000-$18,000 and that is just out of the question for me. I've been quoted $7,500.00 to have the surgery with Dr. Kuri, plus my travelling expenses on top of course, which are roughly $1,300.00 for my husband and I to fly. You can visit Dr. Kuri's website at www.lapbandsurgery.com You will find it as mind blowing as I did I'm sure. GOOD LUCK!! THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT - I am just so touched and humbled by everyone's kindness and encouragement... This website is a true Godsend! Bless you All!!

Got my date in Tijuana set today!

Hi!! Thanks so much for the note! I would LOVE to hear every detail! Yes, I am flying into SanDiego with my husband on the 19th, surgery on the 20th. There is a gal in my province who had hers done by Dr. Kuri and I have spoken with her, and my facilitator is so kind and sweet and had hers done there too... but... It would be great to get someone else's story. Thanks!!
