Can we focus on the original topic at hand which is the weight loss stall? I feel like some people are getting a bit off topic (talking about looking "gaunt") and taking the thread in a different direction than intended.

I sincerely believe that we, as consumers of weight loss surgery, because we are or were grossly obese; need to be our own best supporters, and we need to advocate for ourselves, because no one else is going to do it for us. That means for me:
    1. Find out everything about each possible surgical procedure and find the one that you can LIVE with - not the one that a particular surgeon likes to perform, or the one that your neighbor had, or the one that has a girl on Tic Toc. Or the one that a TV surgeon does.
    2. Weigh the risks and benefits of each surgery and add in your PERSONAL medical and mental health history, support systems, possible issues 10 months out and 10 years out.
    3. Work on the mental health part of it BEFORE surgery. Surgery only fixes tummies and intestines; not mindsets, and we should NOT expect it to have any effect on depression, anxiety, or anything else. And those of us who obsessed about being overweight will continue to obsess about it, or how imperfect we still may be.
    4. Most people, who have a particular surgery expect to be "cured". Unfortunately this is not always the case. Just like treatment for any physical illness, not every medication works for every person , and not every surgical procedure for weight loss surgery will fix every patient who has it. That does not mean giving up. It means being stubborn and going back to your doctor or finding a different one and figuring out the next step.
Be PRO-ACTIVE in your own care. Pre -Op, Post Op, and 10 years or 20 years down the line. Just MY thoughts today

I am so grateful for this conversation. I’m six weeks post op and miserable. I absolutely hate food and Water.

I’m so resentful that this surgery has made me sick everyday. I know it will get better. Everyone tells me to be patient and wait. That’s not really helpful advice because I have no choice but to wait.

I’m so angry about this it’s spilling over to the rest of my life. I didn’t go to work twice this week for fear I would take it out on one of my co-workers.

If I could make a bargain with God that I would not lose another pound but could eat and drink without pain I would do it in a heartbeat. I’m happy with the 30 lbs I’ve lost so far.

Your health care professionals work for you. Replacing any doctor is your decision. However, you must be willing to do the work needed to find a replacement in a timely manner; and, to evaluate exactly why you believe this relationship is not in your best interest.
Do you have someone reliable who you can talk this through with? Someone who cares enough to tell you if You are the problem? Is there someone willing to accompany you and act as your advocate in dealing with the medical staff? Can someone assist you in communicating your needs and responding to the reply?
Should all indications conclude that you are not getting the care you need FIRE YOUR DOCTOR. "This is not done" is no reason to jeopardize you health. Get copies of your medical records from the doctor's office and the hospital.
Replacing your follow up care professionals may not be easy but it can be done. Understanding exactly what is wrong with this relationship will help you to find a good fit for the future.

What surgery did you have? I had my sleeve on April 26 and I feel like I did everything for no reason! I don’t feel like I’ve lost any weight, I am still constantly hungry😩 I know the surgery wasn’t going to fix all my issues but I was thinking at least I wouldn’t be hungry afterwards. I am so depressed I don’t know what to do I feel like such a failure! I feel like I let my 6 children down! I made the choice to have surgery so that I could be healthy enough to live a longer life with them! I didn’t even go to my month check up because I know I haven’t lost anything of significance maybe five pounds 😩😩😩😩 please everyone who believes in god pray for me

It can be frustrating. I did not lose any weight after several days in the hospital. But I lost 12 pounds after 9 days post-op. So about the same. Now down 29 pounds at 7 weeks. So keep following the plan and you will see the weight decrease! Hang in there! 😀

14 lbs in two weeks is a lot, especially given your starting weight isn't nearly as high as some of ours was. I lost 16 lbs the whole first MONTH and I started out at 373 lbs. Not sure what you were expecting, but your loss is very normal . If you're trying to compare your loss to the people on "My 600 lb Life", don't. Those people start off MUCH heavier than the average WLS patient, and starting BMI has a huge effect on how much weight you lose initially. You are fine.

Thank you for the replies! While I know that this surgery is a two way street, I just expected better results. I try not to look at the progress of others and compare, however the progress of others is what made me want to get the surgery.
Perhaps getting rid of my scale and focusing on healing/ sticking to plan is in my best interest. Obviously I can't go back and not have the surgery lol. I have my dietician appointment on the 9th, but am scared to leave the liquid phase. My follow up with surgeon is the 18th and will be the next time I weigh in. I hope things improve and I can look back at this post and encourage others in the same situation.
