  1. Checking in

Surgery Status: a bit over 6 weeks Post Op VSG

Phase: regular food (but don't tolerate all of it well)

    Highest known weight: 201.5

    Surgery weight: 201.5 (didn't need a pre-op diet)

    Current Weight: 177.0

I'm getting discouraged because although I'm THRILLED to have lost 24 pounds since surgery, I've been at roughly the same weight for 3 weeks now! I've heard of the 3-week stall . . . could that be what's STILL going on with me, even at 6+ weeks PO? My calorie intake is usually around 600-700/day, and I get close to 60g Protein in every day. I also get nearly the amount of Water I should daily, and stay under 20 carbs/day. Am I doing something wrong? Please tell me I'm just in a (very long...) stall and the scale will start moving (downward!) soon!

    Congratulations! 🥳

Glad it went so well. You sound really positive!

How did you find the ‘air’ that they pump into you? I’ve heard it’s the worst part when you wake? How quickly did they make you stand and walk.

sorry, 4 days until my sleeve and I have so many random questions!!

I actually didn’t find the air to be much of a problem. I couldn’t even detect any for the first couple of hours, and then I started feeling some up in my left shoulder. The feeling soon subsided, though.

And they had me up and walking just a few minutes after getting to the recovery room. They don’t waste any time!

Good luck with your surgery! 💜

  3. Soooo…I’ve been sleeved! Overall, everything went well. I was in some pain in my abdomen when I woke up from surgery…and nauseated, too. Both of those sensations lasted for a few hours, but eventually went away (for the most part). I haven’t had much difficulty getting my fluids in. I believe I’ve consumed a total of 47 oz. since the surgery this morning. I’m just so relieved to have the surgery behind me!

Thanks Jenfs5 & Candace76 for sharing food ideas! Jenfs5–how did your surgery go? ❤️

  4. EEK! I just have ONE WEEK left until surgery (next Thursday, the 8th). Starting to get NERVOUS! 😬

I'm so uncertain about what eating post-op will be like (both in the weeks following surgery and in the future). I haven't stocked up on anything yet (like broths, shakes, popsicles, etc.) because I just don't know what I'm going to need/want! Anyone else in the same boat?

I did find a recipe that looks good, though...I guess it's for the full liquid post-op stage? Here it is, if anyone is interested:

    HIGH Protein CREAM SOUP

    1/2 cup low-fat ricotta cheese

    2 tbsp. non-fat powdered milk

    1 cup fat-free milk

1 can low-fat cream Soup (cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, etc.)

Mix all ingredients in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. Pour through a wire mesh strainer to remove any chunks or pieces still left. Gradually heat in the microwave. Makes 2 servings.

Per serving: 14 grams of protein

  5. I’m using the month of June to eat some of my favorite foods, since I’m not sure when I’ll be able to eat them again (if ever)! I have been told I don’t need to do a pre-op diet, as my BMI was, at last check, 32.4. But I’m already stressing over the post-op liquid & puréed food diets. I find myself watching hours of YouTube videos trying to pick up tips and pointers to get through those stages. And I’m *dreading* having to give up diet sodas. I just keep telling myself that it will ALL be worth it in the end! 🙌
