Sorry to hear this! I had VSG and was nauseous for about two months, vomiting several times a day. Even on two anti-nausea meds. Had a swallow test to rule out a stricture. Eventually it subsided. Keep in touch with your doctor and hang in there!

With the exception of no added sugar, I try not to exclude foods because I don’t want to feel deprived (which could lead to obsession over something I can’t have, and possibly binging).
I have a small amount of oatmeal each morning, one serving of wheat crackers a few days a week, and misc. carbs if they look appealing. But overall they are not a huge draw.

Esi reacted to newme22 in 19 days post VSG, finding it isolating and lonely
    Hi all,

Really happy to have found this space. This is my first post. I have recently undergone the gastric sleeve procedure and opted to tell only my partner and my parents. I am really struggling today with how isolating that feels - to be going through such a huge life change but to not yet feel ready or able to open up to my closest friends about it. It is so lonely. It means my wonderful partner is bearing the brunt of my not so good days, for which I’m feeling very guilty. I’m also having to make excuses to wiggle out of social invitations from friends which feels uncomfortable. I really feel like having a network of people who understand what I’m going through currently to speak openly with will really help me, so thank you to whoever sees this.

I’m not sure why I have such a block about opening up about my choice to have surgery. I suppose I worry what others will think, that there is still some stigma around it, that some believe it to be an “easy way out”. I am fully at peace with my reasons for having the surgery, but fear others just won’t get it.

I also know via conversations with my Mum that my Dad was not entirely on board with the idea - he is quite old-school with a sort of “why don’t you just eat better and exercise more” mindset. He never spoke to me directly about his views (perhaps as he knew it would upset me) which has again compounded this sense of not being able to be open about my procedure. Whilst I know I should own my decision and not care what others think, I do hope in time he will understand my reasons as we all want our parents’ approval / blessing. For me it truly was my last hope.

I definitely do not want to tell colleagues about the nature of my operation as it feels like a very private thing to me. I want to keep work and my personal life as separate as possible.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced similar anxieties about telling their nearest and dearest and how you overcame that? What was the outcome if / when you opened up? How did that feel?

Really look forward to hearing your thoughts and thanks again for taking the time to read this :) x

    That all sounds so promising.

my resting heart rate is usually in the 115s-120s and average BP even with my meds is typically 140s/90s.

my blood sugar runs in the 150s-180s all the time despite Metformin.

my mom died at 48 of a heart attack. She was morbidly obese, had all the health problems I have. I DO NOT want to end up like her. This is time for change

    That is true.

I look at my friends that are healthy weights and what they’re able to do with their lives and it makes me sad, but motivated. My blood pressure yesterday was at stroke level again, and I’m on multiple hypertensives. I ended up back in the ER with heart attack type symptoms and ended up diagnosed with multiple PEs. At the ER, my BP was 178/108 and my heart rate was 137. I’m literally killing my self with this life.

But you've recognized it, and you're here because you're thinking about doing something about it.

I will tell you, I wish I'd done it fifteen years ago. I look back at pictures from a year (and 110 lbs) ago and it's like I have a different life now, one that's not ruled by food. I don't plan the next meal as soon as I put the fork down from the one in front of me. I don't plan vacations around restaurant scenes. It's... liberating.

You can do it. It is a hard journey, but after the first week post-op, it gets easier. A lot easier.

Yes! And felt bones in the back of my neck, on my hip, and even saw ribs in my chest. (Still have tons of excess skin elsewhere, but interesting to see/feel these for the first time).

Being able to reach the car gas tank release lever by simply bending at the waist instead of stepping out of the car to do this!
And one of the biggest…tucking in a shirt! I look great! I hadn’t done that in probably 15+ years…and my teen said my legs looked longer!!!

I'm only 38 but after losing my weight, my neighbor asked if I had cancer. They had cancer near that time and were just worried about me losing "so much weight"

stalls tend to last longer the closer you get to goal weight. I remember so many times during year 2 thinking "well, this must be it...", and then the scale would drop again. It finally stopped for good at 20 months out.

I’m not that old (I’m 39) but when I went to Starbucks the other day the guy at the counter greeted me by name. I was taken aback a bit but just took my coffee and smiled… but I’m so blah at 6 am that I’m just not focused enough to notice details like that.

i got to work and one of my students noticed there was a heart and a phone number on my Starbucks cup. 😱
i teach fifth grade so you can imagine how crazy the girls went over the information that the Starbucks guy has a crush on their teacher 🤦🏼‍♀️.

it is odd when you’ve gone your whole life with men never looking at you like that 🤷🏼‍♀️

A subtle non scale victory. I had a suit custom made. When I went to pick up the suit the tailor brought it out on a hanger and I told him that was not my suit. It looked to me like a teenager’s suit. He opened it up and showed me it was mine. Amazed how small I have become. I still feel like a fat guy.

My fiancé was in a terrible car wreck (he is okay) and we had to go to the tow yard to clean out the car. Because the trunk was electric-release only, and it was a coupe, I had to fold the driver's seat forward and get in the back to pull down the seatback to get into the trunk—and I fit and got back out, with no wriggling or grease needed.

So sorry to hear this! I’m glad that your providers are figuring out what is going on. Hopefully the spasms will subside soon, and you will be healing. Hopefully you will be on your journey towards eating and drinking regularly (for gastric sleeve, that is).
This was not my scenario, but I had esophageal spasms and then vomiting for two months. I followed the doctor‘s advice, and it did eventually subside. I then had a normal response to the sleeve, and have lost most of the excess weight.
So hang in there, and sip slowly throughout the day if allowed. Even though your recovery is not the usual, you will likely have good results eventually, once you pass this hurdle!

When some of your favorite outfits, that have been patiently waiting in your closet, start to come out and enjoy life yet again right alongside with you 🥰 😂
I had forgotten how easy a task it is to put on the socks at this weight. The return of the same feeling of ease. The joy is something else. Can't believe I had to wait this long for so many such little joys of life.

I actually saw my shoulder blades move in the mirror and did a double take! I am so used to the layer of back fat obscuring them! I stood there for a few minutes moving my arms and shoulders in amazement! (My husband thought I was strange). 🤷🏼‍♀️
