Getting ready to have this surgery

Most do really well and since its a tool some have better weight loss than others. My Dr told me it is not uncommon for some to lose 30 lbs in the first month post op but again depends on the person and the circumstances. I am 3 weeks post op and have only lost 14 lbs. I struggle or I should say my body does with letting loose of the excess weight. I am however losing inches everywhere. so thats a positive.

    4 Days Post-Op

Ive seen some say a heating pad helps as well. I had the gas pains as well but I dont think mine was as bad as some of the others on here have experienced. I considered myself very fortunate. My whole process has been good other than the weight loss portion but thats another story lol

    I'm struggling losing weight

I have not lost anything in a full 3 weeks!! Im so aggravated beyond measure! I lost I think 22 lbs fast before surgery. after surgery (May 3rd) by day 9 I was down another 14 lbs. Nothing since not a single pound. In fact I go back and forth with gain a pound then lose the pound. It is very frustrating to say the least. My team tells me I hit an early plateau after 9 days.. because I lost 36 lbs quickly. But dang lol 3 weeks out and still nothing. Now all that being said I cannot exercise much because I am pending a knee replacement as far as walking goes. I used to tell myself it was because of that but the 22 lbs I lost pre surgery I did not exercise either. So unfortunately for me I have to suck it up and trust the process and hope for the best at this point. I am very discouraged tho to say the least. It wears on me pretty heavily. I do notice clothes fitting loose and my boobs have took a big hit to my husbands dismay lol. Thighs and hips also are seeing inches coming off but that darn scale doesnt move lol
  4. Since my original post Ive adapted really well. Doesnt bother me at at. I have found tho I can taste things to make sure they are good to go and if it has meat in it I generally just eat the meat. I may have 2-4 pieces of pasta if thats in the meal like a casserole or something.
  5. Im pretty pleased with myself, pre op while on liquid diet I was able to cook for my family without any trouble. Post Op while recovering my hubby is doing the cooking but I know when I am feeling better Ill be back to cooking dinner for my family. So just curious if anyone struggled with cooking or watching your family be able to eat meals you really like? So far I think Im handling it pretty good but Im sure Ill come to a point where Im going to want to eat the same thing.

    Loose Skin

How many post sleeve or bypass have the dreaded loose skin? Did you get it removed? Im sure its added weight still there and I imagine it could be a few pounds lost if removed. Im almost anticipating it to be bad for me. Im not sure if my insurance would pay or not. Pretty sure its considered cosmetic. I may pay out of pocket just to finally rid myself of it. Good thing is my Dr who does the sleeve also removes excess skin from weight loss but you have to maintain weight for 1 year before its even considered.

    Eating every 3 hours....

At this point Im willing to try anything lol. I do not get to walk just yet as I have a bad right knee. I am pending a knee replacement surgery when I lose enough weight because the Dr will not do it at my current weight. That being said I am up and moving more than what I was previously. I need to maybe try and push myself and do the walking and see how it goes

    Eating every 3 hours....

I gag with the commercial protein shakes (that started about day 5 or 6 post op). I started using powder protein, that being said I did a protein powder at breakfast and then lunch I did a Fairlife Carmel protein shake so I could make sure I hit protein goal. lol I gagged it down. I have to keep going tho or I feel I may get myself stuck in a rut!!

    Loose Skin

Very good point. I havent checked into my insurance yet to see if the panni is covered or not. I think if my doctor shows it as a medical need then I think it is. If Im not mistaken nothing else will be covered besides the panni since its considered as cosmetic. Ill need to check on the prices of all that stuff lol

    Loose Skin

Your going to be keeping yourself busy! lol I dont know if I am ready to go through all of that. I would like to do my upper arms I have those dreaded bat wings!!! I hate that. My upper arms and belly hold a lot of fat so I should imagine those will be my biggest area of loose skin.

    Eating every 3 hours....

I had surgery 5/3 and I feel like that. I dont care to eat at all and often I dont realize how much time has passed and before I know it 4 or 5 hours have gone by and Im still not hungry at all. My brain will suddenly get a thought of oh wish I could have that or cant wait until I want to eat food again or sometimes I will get a craving. Odd thing is I have stopped losing weight. I lost 14 lbs in 9 days and nothing since a big 0!! Im beginning to wonder what the heck. I barely get in 400-500 cal per day. I have an appt with my dietician tomorrow. Im getting discouraged

    Keto Diet

Ditto! I did keto as well. I didnt lose as much as sleevediva2022 but I did gain it all back as soon as I stopped tracking everything I ate and I got back up to my highest weight again. I believe I had lost 40 lbs and gained 45 lbs back.
  14. So I am aware that sugars and high carbs can cause dumping syndrome but what things cause anyone issues? For instance on a whim last night I tried about 6 small bites of mashed potatoes and some carrots. I do not believe the carrots were the issue but I suspect it was the mash potatoes. They werent thick but when I ate them I felt like I took a punch to the gut so I stopped eating them. I am 2 weeks post op. Maybe it was too soon for mash potatoes?? I did try scrambled eggs today with shredded cheddar cheese and I didnt have a problem with them I only had 1 egg. Interested to see what foods cause ppl problems and what they felt like when they had a bad reaction to something

    Dumping And Such...

    Dumping And Such...

Isnt that weird how some things affect some but not others. Have you had anything yet that caused you issues?

    Bullying post op

Dont forget this tho......it doesnt matter if your fat or thin, tall or short there will always be something a bully will pick from to cause a person grief. They may not like your hairstyle or the way you dress. There's always something they will find.....we have to learn to not sweat the small things. There are much more important things to focus on like celebrating the weight you have lost, planning your next big whatever a trip, a shopping spree or just something as simple as finding shoes to fit so you can walk more. Focus on you and the things that bring you happiness. Dont worry so much about others nothing you can do about them except ignore them. Live, Laugh and Love yourself, thats your goal 😁

    Numbness

Me too! Its only my right calf, its been giving me problems since a couple days post op. Like liveaboard15 said, I believe it to be dehydration since I sometimes struggle with getting all my fluids in. Mine actually feels like a knot sometimes but there is nothing there so could be low potassium as well. Hard to say but no blood clot. I also have a similar pair of leg massager's like pictured above and if my right calf acts up I usually get those out and put on both legs and it does help. Feels better afterwards, I usually do mine in the evening and go to bed afterwards. Especially if I have swelling.

    Kinda annoyed and confused

No I dont believe you are. Hang in there! You are stopping when you are comfortable and that is what you are supposed to be doing. You've lost a good amount of weight in a short period of time, so failure; nah I dont see that. I see it as a victory!! 28 pounds down in 2 weeks thats awesome! Ive only managed 14 lbs and I tend to look at it as thats 14 pounds I couldnt do on my own before so to me its a win win . Keep doing what you are doing and your body will conform

    Kinda annoyed and confused

I have worried about this myself. Its like I dont have alot of restriction, I even said that to my Dr because things seem to be moving along good. I have not tried eggs yet but I may try that tomorrow. Tonight I had mash potatoes about a tablespoon and a tablespoon of carrots. I mashed the carrots to baby food consistency and the mash was runnier than what we usually have. I was unable to eat the mash potatoes, I maybe had 6 small bites. My stomach was gurgling and grumbling so I stopped eating altogether. It felt like I took a fist to the gut every time I tried to eat the potatoes. I dont feel hunger I dont believe but my stomach does do alot of growling and grumbling which is weird. It will do that while Im eating. Are you experiencing that maybe and thinking its hunger pains? Hard to say but I have seem some posts from ppl saying they were hungry after surgery. Maybe they will reply to your post hopefully. I havent lost any weight in 3 days after my last weigh in so thats making me nervous about what I have been eating or the amount. Surely its not a stall already after a 14 lbs loss in 9 days??

    Kinda annoyed and confused

I have been eating tuna pouches and cottage cheese. I probably get what you do 3 or 4 oz at a time then I stop regardless. I do not have to take as long as you do with eating. I chew everything to next to nothing but Im usually done in about 30 mins Id say. Im not eating alot of the things you are though so that may be the difference, My food doesnt have much texture except for the cottage cheese. I am in awe of what your already eating lol 😂
  23. I weighed myself 9 days after surgery because my Drs appt was on that day by video conference and I knew my Dr would ask. I lost 14 lbs so I was pleased with that. I told myself Id only weigh once per week but I weighed myself today which was 3 days since I last weighed and I had not lost anything so it bummed me out. So Im going to try to stick to the once per week weigh in or longer if I can do it.

    VSG and constipation

I was/am taking Colace twice per day and a probiotic. I was having trouble at first getting all my fluids in each day (my surgery was May 3rd). By day 6 post op I was unable to drink the commercial protein shakes because they made me gag horribly and I still had not had a BM. I took matters into my own hands and I got some whey isolate zero sugar creamy vanilla protein powder and some unsweetened vanilla almond milk and I started making my own smoothies and adding the protein powder to them. I also started adding more fiber in the smoothies. I first used ground flaxseed, baby spinach and finally pitted prunes. I blended prunes for I think a day and a half worth of smoothies. I finally had a BM by the 2nd day after incorporating the prunes in the smoothie and even tho I was and still am taking a stool softener I didnt see that it was much help as the BM was horrible to pass for me. I did tell my Dr about not being able to have a BM and she suggested Miralax but I had already incorporated pitted prunes. The prunes is what did it for me nothing else seemed to work.
