This it how things are going for me. Sorry if it is long:

I had my Surgery on Wednesday at 10am and everything went well. I did have a hiatal hernia that was repaired during my sleeve.

One in recovery at about 12:30pm I can remember getting up and walking to the restroom twice. I was given some ice chips and some time later was given a cup of Water and a pill to swallow. I was in pain from the gas. It mostly felt like pressure in my right shoulder, my neck and behind my spleen. It was horrible.

I was moved to a room sometime around 5:30pm. I walked from the recovery bed to the bed in my room. I drank a couple of sips of water and fell asleep for about 30 minutes. I was determined to get rid of the gas pain at which by this time was mainly in my right shoulder and neck, so I walked for about 15 minutes. At this time the walking did not help much, I burped 1 time. Since I was on IV and drinking water I had to use the bathroom frequently and because of the pain of getting out of bed I chose to walk every time I had to urinate so I walked for about 10-15 minutes. Eventually I started burping more during my walks.

The night of surgery was pretty much the same, drinking water, urinating walking and burping. I did try some chicken bullion which was delicious and helped me burp from the warmth. I did not sleep much throughout the night.

The morning after surgery I decided to sit in a chair to see if I could sleep but I was still restless. I walked more and burped more throughout the morning. Since I was doing so well with my fluids, urinating and walking the doctor was most likely going to let me go home when he came back to check on me. I wanted to see if I was able to sleep before I was released so I forced myself to sleep and I was able to for about an hour. When I woke I wanted to try the thickest liquid they offered for my full liquid diet which was cream of Tomato Soup. I drank about 2 oz and held it down fine. I was discharged at 3:30pm that day.

When I got home I felt miserable from the 20 minute ride from the hospital to home so I took some med and tried to be as comfortable as I could be the gas pain was unbearable in my shoulder but I pushed through it. I was able to finally fall asleep around 11pm Thursday night.

When I woke up Friday around 5:50am I felt a lot better. I took some Tylenol, sipped on water and walked around in my house for about 1.5 hours (I am really determined to get rid of this gas today). I attempted to walk outside but the mosquitoes were horrible.

Over all the experience has not been to bad the worst part for me has definitely been the gas pain but it is getting better. As a tip drinking warm bullion before and during my walking has really helped getting the gas moving.

Sorry this is so long but I wanted to share my experience.

I had revision surgery from lap band to sleeve on July 7th. The surgery went way better than I expected it would. After surgery I had no pain, no gas and no nausea. The clear liquid diet after surgery is not bad at all thus far. I look forward to sipping on warm broth. So far I am a happy sleever and look forward to what my new skinny future holds. Good luck to you all.

Hello all, so I have my surgery set for July 27, sleeve. I had my endoscopy last week and my surgeon found what he suspected was Barrett's esophagus signs, and biopsy confirmed his suspicion. He mentioned on his post procedure visit that I should really consider bypass. Does anyone here who has had the sleeve also have a Barrett's Esoph diagnosis? Is Barrett's a firm contraindication for a sleeve? I have a tele visit tomorrow where I feel he will highly recommend the bypass. Appreciate your feedback. Thank you all!

Glad to hear your surgery went well.
My actual surgery, according to my Dr, went well. I barely remember being in recovery. The only real thing I remember was seeing someone I remember from when I worked at that hospital and saying that I remember her. She said she remembered me too lol. But I also remember tapping my hand on the bed rail saying help me help me... I believe I was in quite a bit of pain. But they gave me some pain meds and I guess it knocked me out. I didn't get up to my room until about 4pm. They were giving me toradol every 6 hours so i slept a lot. I had quite a bit of gas pain in my shoulder and neck. And my upper back was killing me, I though it was from laying so long but then realized it was the gas too. I did get up to walk some but not as much as I would have liked. I was hooked up to so many things it was a hassle getting up. I ended up staying 2 nights due to some sort of confusion with my discharge. But overall I think it was a good thing. It gave me an extra day of iv fluids and I was barely able to get anything down due to the cramping pain whenever I tried to drink. It also gave them time to find the blood clot in my arm. My whole hand and forearm swelled up so bad. I assumed my iv had infiltrated but when they finally listened to me and checked it it had not. So I had an ultrasound and they found the clot by my iv site. Luckily though I was already anticoagulated since I have a clotting disorder and once the iv was removed it only took a day for the swelling to subside. I'm still not getting enough liquids or Protein on but its slowly getting better. And my hubby made me some really good homemade broths. He has been so great taking care of me.

Follow the guidelines of your surgeon, not something you found online. Think of this as a practice run for post-op, when “cheating”, or “slipping up”, or having a “bad day, or whatever else you want to call non-compliance to make yourself feel better, can actually kill you.
I’d say if you don’t have the discipline to follow the pre-op diet, you probably should reconsider surgery at this time.

My doctor is one of the strictest I’ve heard about. I haven’t been allowed anything but Protein Shakes and Water for 2 weeks pre-op and 2 weeks post-op. It has been worth it to see my weight come off. I had surgery July 1 and have lost 15 lbs since (33 lbs total). I’m glad he’s so rigid because I haven’t had to guess at what kind of food or shakes to get. He even told me the brand names. Any sign of non compliance and I was out of the program. My 10 day follow-up was today (since 10 days was over the weekend). He told me I’m doing better and lost more than expected. I get to start on cottage cheese, eggs, and yogurt this Friday.
All of this to say I highly recommend you following EXACTLY what the doctor says. It’s not the first time for them. They know what works. Don’t sabotage yourself before you even get started!! Good luck and best wishes

Hello all, I just need a spot to share my happiness since I don’t talk a lot about wls with many of people (it’s not a secret, I just haven’t made it a central point of my personality!)
I’m about 3 months (3 months 1 week) post op for sleeve, about to go in for my 3 month checkup, and I’ve officially lost 60 pounds, which is also half way to my goal 🥰
It was tough getting started in the beginning, and I struggled to know how to eat had how much to eat properly. I’ve even had some setbacks gaining a pound or 2 here or there. But I set this goal for myself and I met it - I’m so happy. I am forever grateful for this journey, this opportunity, and this community along the way!
Good luck to everyone and enjoy your day!

Don't be scared. Remember why you need it. You're gonna be fine. Just relax. I had my surgery (revision from lap band to sleeve) yesterday and it went very well.

I didn’t have it pre-op but I sure have post-op. I started doing the early light exercise and getting up every 30 minutes slowly and just walking the length of my house. It helped so much I actually walked a mile this morning

Sorry to hear about light headedness. I haven't had that problem, but do have a raging headache that has persisted for the last three days and nausea. I've read all of these are normal reactions to a liquid diet.

Light headedness when standing is generally due to a sudden drop in blood pressure. Two things that may help are a little exercise early in the morning (even just a short walk to get the blood moving) and try not to sit or lay down too long. And...stand up slowly when you have been doing so.

My surgery was originally scheduled for May 14, but insurance wouldn't approve it... My doctors office filed two appeals and the surgery has been finally approved and scheduled on July 9. So excited and nervous at the same time!
Good luck to all of you with preps for July surgeries!

All of these tips and hints are really useful! Thank you everyone!

I too did worry about surgery bag for hospital. But I’ve chosen a very large oversized night dress to wear for after surgery. Baggy pjs and baggy tshirt to travel home, I was planning on going bra-less for comfort.
I too have all my shakes, Protein waters, broth, ice lollies and jelly ready.

also doing a deep clean of the house to keep me busy during pre op diet which is going ok so far. How much weight did everyone loose on average pre op? I lost about 7lbs in the first two days. But maintaining now, I hope it’s enough.

good luck to everyone due in the next few days and I wish you all the best for the crew that have just comE out of surgery.

    we got this! 💪🏻

Onwards & upwards Anj0399, I had a dreadful reaction to the anaesthetic and was very sick the first night after op. But ok now, just learning what I can tolerate👌 It’s a new way of life and I intend to grab it by both hands 💕
