  1. Hi Dana:) !

You are making the right decision. We all want to lose fast but at what cost? My best friend had the Bypass and she is developing all sorts of health problems. She has to eat high fat foods to maintain a healthy weight. She now has gallbladder problems, esphogeal problems, vitamin/mineral deficiencies and the list goes on and on. Yes, she looks great in the latest fashions but she is sickly.

I am with you 20-30 pounds is great more would be better, but losing it on my own has not worked and if it did I wouldn't be having this surgery. We live in a society where everyone wants quick results but the reality is slow(in weight loss) is better and we can keep tuning our band for as long as we have it unlike bypass patients. If the band fails or malfunctions it can be removed fairly easily. Given all of the facts and information I will take the Band and work it to my full advantage. If it doesn't work you can always do a more drastic surgery and who knows what will be developed in the next 15-20 years! We may lose slower but I've seen a lot of bandsters that at one year out had similar results to bypass patients! With the Band we will get out what we put in. More excersize=better results, better eating=better results. It is a tool to help us succeed where we have failed, or can not succeed on our own.

    You go Girl:clap2: !

  2. Hi Again:) !

I think you are all correct. I do believe however it comes down to their statistics and they only want the positive statistics on their analysis data. We think we are patients but ultimately we are a statistic. I chose my surgeon and his center based largely on their statistics. They don't want me to fail and they don't want that failure recorded on their bottom line.

I think most MO people have "issues" or we wouldn't be MO. Of course some of us may just be metabolically challenged and have no "issues". Deciding to have this surgery is HUGE:eek: for me. Most of the people I talk to just want the surgery and that is that. Me I think of all of the aspects of my life it could and will potentially effect and frankly that's kind of scary! I am not a jump off and look later type of person. So it is a bit emotional for me/us!LOL!

Thank You for All of Your Input, I/We appreciate It!

  3. Oh Susan, you ARE Funny:D !! Yeah, I thought it was a bit weird over the phone. I will call him and ask him for a face to face. All of myselves think it's a good idea. I'll still see the other therapist for good measure. Oh and I don't think we(you or us) failed, we just didn't give them the answers they wanted to hear!! Failure is not an option!!!

Thanks for giving us(LOL) such good advice:heh: .

    Blessings,

    Dawn

  4. Hi Everyone:) !

I am new to this board and this is my first post. I thought I had a surgery date(actually I did) and the center where I am having surgery has you talk to their psychologist prior to approval. Any way to make a long story short He called me by phone to do an interview(over the phone) and I was way PMS-ing and he said I need to see a counselor a couple times before he'll sign off on my surgery:phanvan . I swear I'm not loco :heh: but this soo sucks!! I feel like once again someone else("the man") is in control of my life. Has anyone else had to go to counseling prior to surgery?

I am really mad because my surgery date was scheduled for May 22, 3 weeks prior to my kids getting out of school and perfect timing for me to finish my pre-op stuff(I am self pay). I guess I just need to vent!

The psych said he'll have to talk to my counselor after I see him a couple times and this guy(the center's psych) is only in the office one day a week!

Thanks for any in put you have,

    Dawn:cry

  5. Hi Everyone:) !!

I am a new member here, but have lurked for a few weeks. I am pre op and going for my consult Wednesday 3/8/06 at the New Program in Newport Beach, CA with Dr. Quebbemann. I went to their Information Meeting on Tuesday Night. I will be self pay as my insurance has a written exclusion for WLS. This will be my second consultation, I had one last summer and decided to lose weight with a Trainer and Jenny Craig. :faint: Well that did not work for me, I still have the trainer and am now just a more physically fit obese person:p ! The problem now is if I stop working out for one week I gain weight! I am 40, 80 pounds over weight, mom of two girls, married, living in the IE of So Cal (which is the opposite of the OC!!).

I am in the gathering all of the info I can before I proceed with the process:help: !

And Pleased to Make Your Acquaitance:D !
