  1. I work in surgery and I can tell you that very healthy people can have very bad things happen to them while they are under. Example I can give you is a patient that we lost a few years ago that came in for cataract surgery!!!! Yes, this is a relatively safe and simple procedure that is done around the world every day, but there are risks when getting anesthesia. You need to discuss these risks at length with your doctor and make the right decision for YOU. Was I worried about not waking up and possibly not being there for my kids....you bet!!!!! I would be stupid not to be. Know that in surgery, we do the best that we can with what we have, but one little reaction to a medication can be fatal!!! Surgery is a big step that requires research and committment!!! Be informed.
  2. I am also 5'3" and currently weigh just about 230. I sat down with my doctor and we had a long discussion about what is normal, healthy and most of all realistic. We both know that i should be 140 and that would put my BMI right where it should be, but he wanted me to be realistic about my body size, my muscle mass and if I wanted be stuck eating a bread crumb or two a day....forever. We came up with 180 as a goal. That would mean that I would lose 70 pounds. We agreed that losing the size of a 1st grader would be healthier for me then what is there. If I choose then to lose more, he will totally support me, but wants me to know what would keep my quality of life good too. I suggest that you sit down with your doctor. Don't look at the BMI scale. Look at what would be healthy for you and attainable. If you set a goal too far down and can't get there...you will always be disappointed. I also agree with the 10 pounds at a time....I actually do five pound increments....easier to be excited then. Good luck to all!!!

i gave in and weighed myself LOL..

I was giddy when I weighed myself for the first time and saw results that hadn't been there in years!!! Keep up the good work!!
  6. Well, what I asked her was a realistic question. I also offered her some adivce that I had received from my doctor. I am one of those "self pays" and paid alot of money for this and YES I do follow (very begrudginly) what my doctor tells me and I do not eat things that are not on "the diet". I do think that it is silly to work this hard on something and then blow it. There are smarter treats to eat out there that will not cause pain or get stuck. So yes, I probably could have worded it differently and I am a person who is very supportive of all....so my apologies to Yvonnkey if I offended....it was only a question.
  7. why on earth if you are tryign to lose weight are you eating biscuits and gravy. Try some pineapple juice...if it is stuck that should unstick it.

    I am an alcoholic

Ok, I am not going to start this with "I am not an alcoholic, but..." I am an alcoholic and was addicted to prescription pain meds for a very long time. I want you to know that I personally understand what a difficult time you are having. In saying that I want you to also remember how hard you have worked with your band and changing your life. This is far from where the end has to be and you can pick yourself up and dust yourself off and get back on track. I am suprised with the band that you didn't get sick with all of the carbonation from the champagne and beer. If your doctor will not help you...FIND ONE THAT WILL!!! Don't give up...not now, not ever. Remember your steps and get your butt to a meeting!!!

Fill isn't coming for 5 more weeks....am I going to starve in the meantime?
