  1. Thank you for all your replies! This site rocks for providing tons of information and support - the ones designated for my province are pretty crappy I think once I have the consult with my surgeon on Thursday, then I will be more assured and confident in my decision.....which is leaning toward the band. I agree that we are worth the money and the complications are fewer with the band. I think I'd go insane waiting 5 years no matter which surgery! Since I've been battling weight my entire life, I am happy there are finally tools like the band available so we can help ourselves become happy and healthy - no matter the risks I think they are worth taking.
  2. Hi, I'm a newbie and am having my consultation this Thursday, July 3rd and will soon begin my preparation for lap band surgery. I have been doing lots of research and reading on all these posts and keep reading about the protien issue and how everyone is using protien powder (whey best?). So I am a little confused as to why the main focus of our new diet will consist of all this protien. I have done just about every diet available and Aitkens was one of them, which did not work...so why would I want to do that again but with a band? Please help me understand this.
  3. Thank you! This all makes sense now  Another question: so if protien does all this for our bodies and we eat it first....do you eventually still have room to eat some fruits/veggies etc? I have read all the posts that is common to start taking a chewable multi vitamin because it will obviously be difficult to eat all the necessary nutrients. Are there any other vitamins that should be taken to balance out what the body needs?
  4. Hello fellow Nova Scotian I am actively researching my WLS options and have a consultation appointment scheduled on July 3 next week. I am looking at also going to Toronto and have looked at the expenses involved, wow. If you go to expedia.ca then you can book a flight/hotel for a reasonable price = $750. I am just begining my steps on finding out my MSI coverage, I think gastric bypass is usually covered in Halifax but the band is only available out of province but I think MSI covers $2000 of it. Plus all the flight/hotel/surgery costs I have been told are deductible on your tax return. I too am alone in the whole trip process but would definately enjoy having a traveling buddy to share costs. I'd love to share my research with you and join our efforts on how to follow the right steps here in NS. All the best to you!
