  1. My hospital gave me a card stating that I had had gastric sleeve surgery and to allow me to order order reduced portions or from the kids menu. I'm curious if anyone else received something similar and if they have used it. Not that I'm thinking of eating out ANYTIME soon but I was just curious.
Idk if south FL hospitals give that card but you can always order whatever u want and ask for a box and app plate at same time, serve yourself on app plate and pack up the rest, once ur home- prep a few more meals in tupperware with the leftovers [emoji177]

  2. I had horrible dry mouth pre- and post-endoscopy. The anesthetist said it's due to a medication they put in your IV to reduce saliva. It's usually given anytime someone has surgery or a procedure during which a breathing tube is used down the patient's throat.
Definitely going to bring me some spray for my surgery!
Makes sense, dont wanna choke on your saliva or have it pool in lungs and walk out with pneumonia , but def shopping for biotene now

  3. I'm feeling frustrated. I had an appointment today with my Barbaric Physiologist to discuss my food log and she told me I can not have any sweets and that the piece of chocolate I ate can really hurt me after surgery.
This comment just makes me want to lie on my food log!
I know I can't eat candy after surgery but I will be able to eat it in maintenance mode and my pre-op diet is the same diet as my maintenance diet. I have been eating 1200 calories a day, getting in my Protein, veggies, starches etc and feel that having an occasional sweet is part of being balanced and satisfying a craving so I don't give in and binge later. The Psychologist talked about how the chocolate will lead to gaining weight later on, but I know I can not go the rest of my pre-op diet or the rest of my life never eating sugar.
I'm just feeling very emotional about this right now and would like to hear from other people.

Sugar free fudge pops for the win! Or SF Russell stover "reeses" [emoji7] chocolate affects the brain like drugs and happy endorphins come thru....its true what doc said but up to you to stay in control, have a good support system. Dont sneak food like a hobbit. Your working towards a goal for a reason, yes you can have it in maintenance, just keep the same mentality. Plus food wont sprout legs and run away (unless its alive), meaning you will have all the time in the world to eat "the bad stuff" in moderation while balancing healthy eating & exercise [emoji177]

  4. I am 11 days away, I’ve been on a pre op diet for for 8 days. But today I cheated and I feel stressed that my surgery won’t happen now.
the diet I’m on is 2 Protein Shakes a day and Water.
I feel horrible and I know I messed up, I just needed to vent.
I'm late to ur post but maybe a newbie will see this....I saw a woman on youtube do this and I'm in nursing school and it makes perfect sense in regards to Fluid & electrolyte levels....drink a 0 cal gatorade in the morning before you flush your body with a ton of water daily. It avoids headaches and fatigue [emoji177]

  5. I am on day 5 of pre-op diet and have lost 10 pounds. I am excited about it even though it's surely just Water weight. I have told a few people (who have asked) that I have lost 10 pounds. They keep saying "it's just Water weight." I DON'T CARE! 10 pounds is 10 pounds [emoji4]

Even if it is.....the scale cant differentiate!!! 10 lbs is 10 lbs & F the haters!! YOU DID IT! CONGRATS [emoji3060]

  6. I agree with the full liquid. Also with the lightest possible clothes! Scrubs or shorts/tank top if you can, and no shoes. Also, get weighed in the morning, and don't drink/eat anything first if possible. Also, if you still are really close, and I can't believe our effed up insurance system has me saying this, you could "find some way to make sure you've evacuated your bowels". I know since I'm chronically constipated due to meds some days of the week I'm 2 or more pounds heavier depending on when I've last had a BM. Oh, and make sure you're limiting salt and drinking a lot of fluids for a number of days prior to weigh in (same function if not extent of diuretics)..

    Good Luck!

Update: 2 lbs under my last recorded weight at the nutritionist [emoji847]...I'm in the green for now, just to keep going now until the 28th [emoji123] thanks for the advice!Screenshot_20210415-082905_Baritastic.jpg

  7. Hi all
I am booked in for surgery next week.
is it silly to do this before I have children?

any tips on really what to expect post operation? I really want to understand what life will be like after this?

my job and life is quite social so I feel I will struggle to adjust at first and to cancel a lot of plans last minute

i am not telling anyone other than my husband about the surgery / is it hard to hide?

what are peoples weight loss journeys like post op?

    sorry for all the questions!!

#1 I'm sure it's safe to have kids post- op, I would lose all the weight 1st and hold off on any skin surgeries. Your doc should have discussed this with you though

#2 dont have any post op tips yet

#3 who you tell, is your business, it's your surgery and your life

#4 your social life doesnt need to fully change with kids, well I guess it depends on what u do socially lol...but new mom/dad friends, outdoor activities, theme parks, etc. Kids will keep u busy and active

    Good luck [emoji177]

  8. So I just has bypass on 10/20. I can already tell I'll need plastics (especially tummy and breast lift). I'm just concerned that I'm too old at 38. I guess I'm kind of feeling like I'm not young anymore, so why bother.

  9. Some helpful hints. You will be INCREDIBLY thirsty/ dehydrated post - surgery. Bring Biotene toothpaste and mouth wash. Swish as much Water as you can as soon as you can reach a sink. You may not be able to swallow fluids just yet. And your mouth will THANK you! You can get at Amazon/ Walmart/ Target.

BariWise chicken Bouillon- lifesaver - Amazon. Clear Liquid- it tastes good and has 15g of Protein. Amazon - Amazing.

****PILL GRINDER (not cutter) - looks like pepper grinder to actually GRIND your pills so much easier to swallow! - Amazon.

Ask the hospital for the 30 cc cups - they’re 1 ounces and you can pour your Protein Shake and liquid clears to keep measurements .

**** DO NOT be afraid to ask for pain medication (this was a mistake I made). I acted tough. Ask ask ask for nausea meds - lifesaver. No vomiting.

Women - plan on wearing a sports bra that doesn’t touch your top incision and cotton underwear that does not touch your bottom incision. Wear a loose cotton dress to go home in and for recovery. Amazon has a lot of different ones (with pockets). You can lounge in them. Walk around the neighborhood and go out with nice sandals/slip on shoes or flip flops.

Amazon also has long roomy comfy sleep shirts - great for lounging and letting your incisions breathe.

BariWise hot chocolate- 15grams of Protein and considered a clear. Add sugar free Syrup ( can get a bottle at Home goods for under $5) for a treat. Cinnamon sticks and peppermint tea help with nausea.

Throw a cinnamon stick in your Decaf hot tea of choice (or hot chocolate).

Take a small walk when comfortable even if it’s just around the house when you are waiting the 30 minutes before or after your protein.

If you have a gentle dig - take them for a walk (although the first few days I couldn’t because of the bending to pick up poop). My neighbor offered to walk the dog for a few days.

Enlist help - people like to help.

I was sent home with liquid pain med - keep on schedule and Prilosec capsules. I was instructed to open up. Toss the beads back and follow with chaser - amazing - helped with stomach pain.

Also sent home with anti- nausea under tongue melts - AMAZING.

If you have headaches/ menstrual cramps - I recommend Hylands brand / melts under tongue (Amazon).

Hope this helps! Wish me a great recovery!

    Best, Christina

Please be mindful that not all pills are meant to be crushed, can cause more harm than good (enteric coated and extended release) just a helpful fyi to all

Other than that, thanks for the tips! Will purchase the biotene soon [emoji177]

  10. If your kidneys are decent, could you use diuretics?? My dietician told me to use them for those last couple pounds if I needed because I gained like 15lbs back on after I was like 3lbs from my goal weight because life & stress..
    I didn't take them, but it's an option [emoji2368][emoji2368]

Will consider it, I'm a nursing student, stress doesnt even begin to describe what I'm going through lol

  11. My dad always told me that when you cant stop dwelling on what people say about you, you are letting them live rent free in your head. Well...there was a comment made on Sunday that I cant seem to evict!
My husband and I were visiting my inlaws in another state. We attended the church where my FIL is a preacher. We always attend church with them when we visit. Last visit we made was 2 weeks post op, so I had not lost really anything at that point. This was the first time the people at the church have seen me since my extreme weight loss. A lot of people made comments about how great I looked, and that didnt bother me at all. However, two ladies came up to my husband and I, told me I looked so good, then they turned to my husband and said, "looks like you really made out on that deal!" My husband laughed and said, "Yeah my investment really paid off!" For background, we got married two months before my surgery.
I tried to laugh it off in the moment, but I really had to bite back tears. I have never felt that my husband looked at me any differently at 284 or 140. He himself has said that he only saw me, never my weight. He says he loves me regardless.
Both comments, from the lady AND my husband's reply has been on repeat in my head all week. Who finds that comment appropriate to say to anyone?? I was a catch at my HW and I am no more or less of a catch at my CW. He didnt marry me hoping I would lose weight and look better physically, at least I would certainly HOPE not, seeing as he is overweight himself.
It was inappropriate and hurtful. Normally, I would address my husbands comment with him in private. However, our marriage has been rough (to say the least) lately and I didnt want to start an argument. I know he will tell me that it was a joke, I am being too sensitive and overthinking it. Which...maybe I am but that doesnt make the comments hurt less.
I dont know...I guess i just needed to vent to people that would understand!

Girl.....hes still ur man, he loves u and loved u when u were extra curvy til now....but men also like what they see too, it's pretty basic. My man called me fat in a arguement once (I said a few low blows too) and I cried bc he was mean, the scale said 285 (ummm yeah! Lol I'm fat!) Men say and do stupid **** all the time (so do we) but if it bothers u that much, talk to him! He may have not even thought in depth about the comment and was just appreciating how hot u are now [emoji91] good luck girly [emoji177]

  12. Are you sure it needs to be the same? I think once your approved you are OK. Double check that. But if that is the case I would say... do the full liquid. I lost 12 lbs before surgery on it. I only did full liquid for a week though and partial liquid (protein shakes meal substitutes and meals) the week before. Not that I would encourage cheating but I think cheating a small amount on an otherwise liquid diet is better than none. I cheated a time or two and was fine. Just make sure you are actually liquid for the amount of time you surgeon requires.

Yes bc insurance & doctor said they will push it back 1 month...I'm doing 2 shakes & salad or a Soup today but want to make sure I'm down to where I was soon

  13. I did pre op testing today. I did chest xray, ekg and blood work. However, i had to make another appt for blood work because i had no vines available. I am so mad at that. Anyway I know people are talking about being put a liquid diet. So I thought they was going to tell me when I start. But that wasnt the case. So can somebody tell me at what stage does the liquid diet starts?

Make sure you are hydrated and warm...with my history of drawing labs those were the main 2 issues my patients had. Good luck
