  1. Has anyone had successful WL with just plain old walking? I've seen a lot of articles about how walking just 30 minutes a day can make a big difference.

I got myself a heart rate tracker. I shouldn't go over 188 which is my estimated maximum heart rate. And instead stay with in 135-145 to start...increasing that amount as I get more fit.

Also, I was instructed to walk at an incline (I'm using a treadmill). As that would help to minimize my lower body. Last, a new sneaker by Sketcher's "Shape Ups" might help boost my toning efforts as well. Those I haven't tried. There's also a similar sneaker by Reebok they call "Easy Tone".

I'm want to alternate walking, weight training and yoga. But start with walking first, then add in the weight training, and later yoga.

Anybody interested let me know. We can keep tabs on each other!! And any feedback would also be greatly appreciated!!

  2. I dont agree with the idea of a "sweet spot". Every fill I had restarted weight loss again for a while so every one was a sweet spot to my way of thinking. I needed less restriction to lose weight at first than later on.

Striving for some spot where you "cant eat bread, can only eat 1/2 a cup at a time and lose 1-2 lb per week" like people say is a pretty silly idea. You get frustrated and forget to make the most of the journey along the way and you give your band way too much power when you should be taking the responsibility yourself.

And really, if you can lose weight less tight you're way better off.

So then how should one feel? I go for another fill on Tuesday. Right now I can eat way over 1 cup of food per meal. I don't each much if at all bread, rice, Pasta or tortilla's because I do get that stuck feeling. The only Protein I've struggled with is chicken breast because it may just be to dry? Outside of that I can eat plentiful as long as I take small bites and chew well.

And I must admit that I'm an emotional eater. So I think that really throws a wrench in my WL efforts. But I don't want that to keep me down. I'm taking baby steps to get the weight off. I just want to do it the best way possible.

    HELP!

  3. I've never tried yoga. And I'm actually a bit intimidated by the thought of taking a class. I hear and have read an enormous amount of good things about it. But it seems like you have to have a lot of arm, tummy and leg strength. All of which I do not have much of. How hard is it to get started? Thanks for any feedback!

  4. When's the best time to work out? I've heard in the morning on an empty stomach. But then others say it really doesn't matter, JUST DO IT! lol :scared2: :rolleyes2:

I may have to agree with the ladder as I'm not a morning person. teehee :scared2:

  5. I love Greek yogurt! I actually make a sauce with it and dip my chicken breast in it. I find that chicken breast can be a bit dry so it makes it so much easier for me to eat. And it tastes good too, not to mention good for you.

I add lemon juice, a little garlic and a little olive oil and pepper, cilantro sometimes and/or even chopped cucumber.

It has the consistency of sour cream or slightly thicker. But has little to NO taste so it easily takes on whatever flavors you add to it.

I can't say I've had it in place of regular yogurt though. I imagine with some Splenda and cut up fruit like bananas and strawberries it might be pretty good.

  6. My SO was the exact same way. All I can say is be prepared. Be prepared for how he may get after you start to lose weight. And also having your fridge stocked and ready with the sorts of good foods you know you should be eating. Also stay close to your mom and sis, and do stay in touch with other bandsters too.

I personally thought that I was strong enough to do this on my own. BIG MISTAKE! Although my success hasn't been a huge one it's something. I love my band! And I wouldn't take any of it back. I wish you much luck in your journey. If this is what you want, and it will make you healthy too then GO FOR IT!

  7. I originally told my fam, best friends and closest co-workers. So in reality I've told most ppl in my circle. But I'm very okay with that. Even though my WL success hasn't been it's best I don't feel bad for having told. I knew going in the risks, side effects and success rate of the band. I certainly do not seek anyone's approval but rather their support. And thankfully everyone has been very supportive. Personally, I don't see a point telling ppl I don't know very well. It's still very personal enough to me not to share it with just anyone. I mean, I wouldn't share with them I"m cramping cause I'm on my monthly, or that Mexican food I had for lunch gave me the runs. ahahaha Sorry for that, but I'm just sayin'....I LOVE MY BAND! And I wouldn't change a thing!

  8. The only thing that I can tolerate, that has splenda in it, is carnation instant Breakfast no sugar added. I haven't tried any other artificial sweeteners because I really have no use for them.

That's great for you or anyone who has decided to live a sugar-free lifestyle. But it's not a realistic lifestyle for me. I'll suck it up and use Splenda if that's all I can get! lol :scared2:

  9. Just be careful which brand you choose. Now that the FDA has approved it, some of the big companies have jumped on the Stevia bandwagon but have added chemicals to it to make it taste better and not so much all natural. Good choices are "Stevia in the Raw" and "Sweet leaf". I would pass on brands like "Truvia" and "Purevia".

Oh wow! I hadn't thought about that. This is what I'm talking about. That's why I'm questioning even this Cactus Honey Powder. Because unless you read the label you never really know what your getting. The ingredients on the package for it are: Cactus Pure Honey & Maltodextrin.

  10. Frankly, I don't like the taste of it much if at all. I only tolerate it because it's healthier than regular sugar. lol

However, I found another sugar substitute called "Cactus Honey Powder". And it leaves no after taste like that of Splenda. Here's an article I found on-line about it: powder.html" rel="external nofollow">Who Says Cactus Honey powder is Honey!

But I'm going to do a little more digging on it....just in case it turns out it's not actually healthy for you. Because not all things natural are ya know.

Have any of you tried it, or know about it? And/or have you tried anything else besides Splenda that you like better and why?

    THANKS for any feedback!!

    Sandra

  14. Hi all, I'm new to the site. I was banded in 2007. I haven't been as successful yet as many as you have been. But I'm not giving up cause frankly I LOVE MY BAND! :mad2:

Here's what I'm having today. I don't always eat all of my food. However, it's too easy to get away with cheating on things other ppl bring into the office or at the vending machine's. Some days I'm hungrier than others. So I've come to realize it's just so much more easier for me to be PREPARED!!!

    Breakfast

    6oz skim milk

3/4cp Special K Protein Plus Cereal

    lunch

    3oz steamed chicken

    1/2cp white rice

    sugar-free Jello

    snack

    6oz can V-8

Handful of nutz or string cheese

dinner ...this is what I plan to have...

    3-4oz Steamed fish

Grilled onions and green peppers in olive oil

    Snack

High Protein Shake w/skim milk, frozen berries and 1/2 banana

*SIDE NOTE: This is right around 1,200 cal, under 20grms of good fat, and a whopping 76grms of protein.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL! And have a fab hump day too!:wink2:

    Sandra

  15. My name is Sandra. I'm a single mom of two young boys ages 13 and 10yo. I was banded 11-14-07 and have lost 30lbs since. I'm so thrilled with my results. I have absolutely no compalints. My goal is to lose 60 in total by my 1 year anniversary date. And at this rate I'm confident that I will achieve it. I work out 3-4 times per week. I also eat a lot healthier than ever before. I love my lap-band and though at first I doubted what I had done...I find taking the time to relearn eating, and even the way I think about food has helped me to cross that bump. I'm so thankful and if anybody would like to chat please don't hesitate to send me a message.

    Peace and God Bless!:thumbs_up::thumbs_up:
