  1. It's easier said than done but you've got to find healthier alternatives. I don't keep any of the sugary fatty foods in the house anymore. But I do have sugar-free alternatives. Frankly I'm not as impressed with the stuff so I don't touch it much. Except for that time of the month. Because that's the only time I feel a sugar/salt binge coming on. Some people say it's all in my head but I don't think so.

Consider keeping a journal when you feel stressed and write down how you're feeling. Maybe drink your favorite sugar-free beverage, mines sugar-free Snapple's Peach Tea. Or if you prefer coffee try a soy based one or one made with skim milk like a Starbucks late or light frap.

Try going for a walk, clean the fridge out, or call your best friend and talk about what's going on, listen to your favorite music... anything you can do to keep you from eating the wrong foods or from over eating. The calories are not worth it. Try something new and you'll feel better about yourself. Think about it the stress will pass but the calories will last!!!

    Much luck to you!

  2. HAVE A GOAL YOU WANT TO REACH? Post it here!

I'm a firm believer in setting goals.

    So here goes mine:

    Surgery weight was 240

    Current weight is 184

Short term goal 170 by August 3rd

Long term goal 140 by November 14

To reach my goals I'm limiting my caloric intake between 1,000 - 1,200 daily. Drinking more Water, increasing my Protein and my workouts to 5 times per week. If I can get in 6 days I will. 3 days I'll be doing my C25K work out plan. And the other 2-3 days I'll do weights and abs.

    Who's next??

  3. Well I got up this morning at 6:30 to beat the heat and since I didn't have any yogurt I ate cottage cheese instead. Then I waited 30 min and ran. I did really well, I ran the 28 min only stopping to get a drink at 24 min but I put the timer on pause and then ran the last 4 min. It is still taking me 42 min to finish the course but Sunday I start the 30 min runs so maybe I will finish under 40 min next week.

Sandra-- Don't worry about week 3 you can do it!

Hi Ms. Leigha! How was your run on Sunday? I start week 3 tomorrow. Yeay! Tonight though I'm doing upper and lower body toning. I picked up a DVD, Biggest Loser Last Chance Work Out. It's TOUGH!

I actually did pretty good on W2. I realized though I was doing one minute walk intervals instead of TWO minute walks. Day 3 was a breeze compared to days 1 & 2. lol But I'm actually looking forward to my run this week. I've even noticed a slight change in my legs so that really has me excited!

I hadn't thought about how running would tone my lower body. Does it? Or is it my imagination? Cause I would love nothing more than to minimize my legs and thighs! lol

Have a great day and a better week ahead! :scared2:

  4. I LOVE to eat out! I've also sort of got a "system". If I know where we're going ahead of time I'll search their menu on-line and decide what I want before I even get there. I totally agree with not eating the chips or rolls and def no drinking right before or during! At least I can't do it until at least 10-15 minutes afterwards. And also very important is to know where the bathroom is just in case you have a PB moment.

Ordinarily I order a bowl of Soup like tortilla soup, black bean soup, potato soup or even gumbo. I also enjoy grilled chicken salads with a side of lite ranch and lots of lemon wedges and sprits the juice over top too. YUM! Or share chicken/beef/shrimp combo type fajita platter and eat the grilled veggies but skip the other fixings except for salsa maybe and noOo flour or corn tortillas either. Love love love grilled fish with steamed veggies too. I try to stay away from carbs. But I'm human and uhm Mexican soOoO sometimes it happens, I'll break down and have chips, refried bean, salsa and queso but then that would be my meal and I wouldn't order anything else.... 'cept maybe a frozen margarita to wash it down afterwards! LOL Oh and a juicy steak, meatloaf or meatballs rare when I order it because the portions are ginormous but it's a also a good source of Protein and you can save the left overs for the next day.

I don't eat much when I go out. It's sometimes a waste of food so I don't bother to order regular platters like I used to in the past. I've found that these choices work best for me. Eating any type of Pasta dish, spaghetti and the like I totally avoid. I don't even consider it!

I take my time, chew chew chew. Eating out now for me is far more pleasurable because it's not about the food anymore. No longer am I stuffing myself till it hurts. It's more about the people I'm with and enjoying our time together while at the table!!

  5. Hi Sandra! Yay for you! On my off days, I go to classes (yoga, body conditioning, etc.) or do strength training. I also ride my bike every day, at least 9 miles (to work and back).

WOW! Sorry, I don't know how I missed your post. But thanks for the encouragement. I NEED IT! lol And that's awesome, 9 miles on the bike. I could try to work up to that, something at least to aim for. I would love to try yoga too cause I hear that's really good for you. Especially the weight thing I want to get tone, I hate my jiggly arms!

I had a great work out last night. I can feel it today though!!! I'm a lil nervous about next week, it's week 3. And I'm supposed to run a full 3 minutes. I get a lil winded though doing 90 seconds. I don't want to have to repeat any of my weeks but I suspect I may have too...

Hope you all had a great work out last night!!:bored:

  6. Hey Sandra, Glad your here we needed a few new runners. I know success is measured in different ways but I was never 55 pounds lighter 3 years after any diet so even if you aren't at goal I still consider being 55 pounds down successful. I have not been working out on my off days, I should lift weights but I haven't been.

Vikki-- Congrats on finishing week 1! I bet week 2 will be a breeze for you.

Mariasha-- I started walking the week after my surgery which really helped with the C25K. When did your Dr say you could start?

Liftingchic-- How's it going? Are you on week 7?

I think I am going to have to redo week 8 . I should have ran Tuesday for day 2 but I had gone out of town and was sick at my stomach from eating out so I ran yesterday instead. I quit at 25 min instead of 28. I think I am running out of gas.

But I read an article on facebooks C25k page yesterday that said people who eat a yogurt 15-30 min before they run are able to run 13% longer. So I am going to try that, I have not been eating before I run, as a matter of fact I have to get up and run earlier. I ran yesterday at 8 am and it was already 85 degrees outside. So I am going to try and not be so lazy and get up about 6:30 eat yogurt and drink Water and then run around 7 am.

    Good luck everyone. :)

Hi Leigha! Thanks so much for responding to my post. True, I'm actually very happy for not only having lost but kept off 55lbs. The working out part I've not been big on. That's what I want to work on now that I have a sense of control with the eating part.

And I think you're doing a fabulous job! Even if you have to repeat week 8 the fact that you're not throwing in the towel says a lot! That's awesome!

Congrats to all you ladies that have kept it up and especially for posting too! I love reading everyone's stories. You can learn so much. The bit about eating yogurt before a run is great! I've always wondered if I should or should not eat a lil' something before working out. I do, however, drink a Protein shake after my work outs. I've been told that it's good for your muscles particularly after a work out.

Have an awesome day today people!:blink:

  7. Hello All!

I'm new to C25K but not new to LBT community. I lost touch for a long while but IIII'mmm baaack!!! LOL I've been a slow loser, banded almost 3 years and have lost 55lbs to date. Whoot Whoot! I can be excited about it now but I wasn't for a very long time. And is the main reason why I got away from the LBT community. But I realize that I can't do this alone, frankly I don't want to either. And I'm looking forward to jumping back in with all you guys and dolls. Workin' on getting our sexy back (snap)! LOL

Enough about that ... today I will be doing W2D2. I'm excited that I even finished W1, and a lil' nervous about W3.

Question: What do you do on your off days?

I'm thinking of maybe riding the stationary bike and some free weights. Or Zumba cause a friend got me the DVD of it. I really want to TONE TONE TONE! Any suggestions?

Thanks and wish you all the best for this weeks C25K!!

    Sandra:tt1::thumbup:

  8. It sounds to me like he's afraid to lose his eating buddy and possibly lose you period. I know with my boyfriend, he was feeling a bit insecure at one point. He said he accepted me for who I am either way but he wanted me to be happy so he finally gave in. He said that if I left him in the end, after I lost the weight, then as long as I was happy that is ok with him. I don't know how much of this is true.

I am hearing a lot of women that leave their husbands and boyfriends after the weight loss, only because they felt that they settled for a person that accepted them being overweight. I don't know, I maybe one of those women myself. I guess we will see in time.

I'm actually breaking up with my bf but not because of the band. We already had a LOT of problems prior to me getting banded. Although I do agree with what you say, I can't help but wonder what exactly is it that lead them to leave their SO? Ultimately the band has given me a renewed confidence. And I'm so thankful too. Much luck to you!!

  11. I've been single a lOng time, and there's no escaping the up and downs of what comes with being single. Especially now when one has lost a lot of weight, you're feeling great, looking great and it shows. Men before may have been turned off by one's larger appearance and lack of self confidence....now are feeling intimidated by one's smaller appearance and high self confidence! HMPH! All I can say is I don't need a man...I want a man...but only one that will want me back just the same. Similar to "He's just not that into you."....no harm in making a man work his way to you....maybe I'm old fashioned, but I'm not about to throw myself at a man....skinny or fat. If he wants me he certainly won't have a problem with letting me know. But if he doesn't then he wasn't the man for me anyways....better to be single than in bad company I say. lol

  12. The Fiber One bars make me feel very uncomfortable after eating one too. I was told by my doc not to eat anything with too much fiber.

Because the food sits in your stomach "pouch" right above the band where it's the most sensitive part of all your stomach you will have reactions to some foods you may not have ever had before.

SO I tried a lil experiment and ate another Fiber One Bar a week later and immediately had a bad reaction! ahaha The Pregresso Soups do the same thing to me as well. And I don't believe those have to do with fiber. But it's something in those Soups that gas me up big time!! Sorry if TMI!!

Just keep tabs on foods you eat. ;o)

  13. I can certainly relate as I've discovered I'm an emotional eater. In the past 9 years that I've been divorced I've managed to rack up a good 50-60lbs. I know for a fact that my weight gain was due to being under a lot of stress. Even now, I'm going through a break up....he should be moved out in about 6 wks. Needless to say it's been a difficult past 8 months or so. And I truly believe I haven't been as successful with my LB because of it. HOWEVER, I choose to not let those things affect me any more. I really am ready to do this for me regardless of what's going on with my love life. As I've stated in my profile message...I may not be able to control that but I can control what I put into my mouth!

Anyhoos, please people don't give up on the LB. It's always important to remember that it's a "tool" and not the cure. We could easily choose to eat around the band but why?! This is your time to shine now!! SO GO FOR IT!!

  14. I picked up a book titled "Eat This Not That!" It's so very informative. Anyways, there's a section for frozen foods....a few items that made the list are as follows:

    • Lean Cuisine chicken Marsala w/Green Beans and Carrots 1 pkg = 140 cal, 4 g fat, 14 g Protein, and 3 g fiber
    • Gorton's Grilled Fillets/Lemmon Pepper (pair this with grilled veggies) 1 fillet = 100 cal, 3 g fat, 17 g protein, and 0 fiber
    • Smart Ones Salisbury Steak 1 pkg = 200 cal, 7 g fat, 22 g protein, and 4 fiber
    • Kashi Southwest Style Chicken 1 pkg = 240 cal, 5 g fat, 16 g protein, and 6 g fiber

    Hope it helps...

  15. Successful exercise for weight loss is all about intensity.

If really brisk walking for you is intense enough to raise a sweat and have your heart rate well elevated (say 130 or more) and still gentle enough that you can do it daily, then its going to work GREAT. Until such time as you get too fit for that and then you have to decide to introduce more intensity such as jogging.

Its when people say they hate running, and just want to walk because its easier that walking isnt so great. Easy walking will work at first but you soon outgrow it. You really should be sweating and slightly uncomfortable when you exercise.

The treadmill is great because you cant slow down, it keeps your pace up. The more incline, the better, walking fast on a high incline can be much tougher than jogging flat, without the impact. And inclines give you a great ass.

But ANYTHING that you will consistently do is great!

"a great ass" aahaha i hoping to minimize my HUGE BUBBLE BUTT on that incline. ahaha thanks for your feedback!! i def hear what you are saying. the program i got out of the mag does have a little burst of jogging every so many minutes. i decided i would kick that for now but add it in as i get more active.

got my gym bag packed and ready to go....tomorrow day 1!

  16. The doctor said that since I have a standard size (10cc) band there may be a little restriction already (if I understood him correctly) and a teeny-tiny bit of fill that they use to prime it sort of.

Oh well.:P It's just that I've got so much weight to loose!

I agree with what the other posters stated. You did great!! If you can go through 5 wks of pureed food imagine what you can do with more restriction!! Remember, the band is only a tool and not the cure. Therefore, will power is key! Trust me I am an emotional eater so I have horrible will power. But enough about me.

I belive you understood correctly. I have a 10cc band. I'm at 7cc's now. But at the time of surgery I was told they had filled my band just a bit...sorry can't recall how much. I have very good restriction now though. Be sure to get in your lean Protein every day. I was told 60-70 grms per day. Chew very well and in small bites. Measure your food out too. And if they offer it attend some of the post-op support groups.

GOOD LUCK ON YOUR LB JOURNEY!

  17. :redface:Well I have a vanguard #10 which recently held 6cc's but I got ssoo sick now I have it back to 5 where I am just right

I believe I have the same as you. Reason being, I know that my band is 10cc's. I asked my doctor (Dr. Felts/Dallas, Texas) TODAY. And I found out that I have 7cc's in my band. I know this because he extracted the saline I had in my band to confirm the amount. I actually have good restriction, it's all about making the right food choices now.

  18. Sandra,

In the beginning of weight loss it is very important to do cardio which is the treadmill. I didn't even start to exercise until I lost 60 pounds, which was stupid because I lost whatever muscle that I did have and had to begin all over again. I am still slow on the cardio but I love going to the gym and lift weights. I go to LA Fitness in Arlington. I don't know if you belong to a gym but it is also so much easier when you have a partner. I will still always do it myself though as I now geet depressed if I don't.

Cardio is excellent when losing weight and do a bit of an incline for your calves and quads. I also heard that if you stay at a constant fast pace and I call it a power walk without the incline that is just as good.

    Josephine

I appreciate your input very much. I like your idea of walking on an incline. I was told that it makes a difference. I did pick up this months Prevention Magazine. It had a walking program included. I figured that would help me to set some goals. Thank you!

  19. You make a good point. I guess it would be a matter of need to know only. And on a first date it's not necessary, second or third either.

I'm such an open book though. But this I feel is more personal. Besides if he's really interested in me then he won't care about the band. :P

  20. Okay, I'm a single of mom of two boys. But I've got the single mom thing down. I've been holding it down at home going on 9 years.

My question is about going out on a date and being banded. lol When do you feel is the right time to tell this person you're banded?

I have no problem telling my friends or co-workers about my band. But if I were asked out to eat on a first date....it would be rather awkward knowing I wouldn't be able to finish even half the meal. Has anyone ran into this issue? And how did you handle it?

    Thanks!
