    Hi April Sleevers,

I had a fun victory moment during the weekend. I've lost weight, but had not really made any adjustments to the clothes that I was wearing. In many postings on this site, they encourage you not to spend much money on clothes during this process because, depending on how much weight you are loosing, you might have to keep replacing clothes. Im going through this process with a focus on improving my health versus racing for a reduction in my weight numbers. I had not really thought about clothes size changes much until I was looking for something in my closet and looked at "the other side" which is where I have tucked away smaller size clothes that I could no longer fit but was hopeful that one day I could wear again. Everyone has that section in your closet or drawers, right? Hahahaha. 😉Well, this weekend I perused that section in my closet and drawers and found some clothes that are one size smaller than my current size that fit nicely. I made a big pile and washed a couple loads of laundry. I reorganized my drawers and closet to include these one size smaller clothes that I can now include in my regular wardrobe. It felt very validating. They are all summer clothes so its perfect timing. And, it was nice to reminisce about earlier times with those clothes. And even better, I did not have to spend any money! 🤗 I have a few clothing items that are two sizes smaller. I just left them tucked away for later during this process. 🙂

Anyone else go shopping in your closets or drawers so far during this process? I'm at the 7 week mark.

I've done that! I hate throwing out or getting rid of perfectly good clothes so I have bins of clothes of different sizes. I've been going through them every few weeks to see what fits now. Especially since it seems like I'm going through sizes pretty quick. I'll wear a pair of jeans that fit well then wear them again 2 weeks later and they're loose. I did go buy a couple shirts just to Celebrate some. I didn't buy jeans because to me they're too expensive to buy something that I probably won't fit in in a month or so. 😂

I see a lot of people still getting nutrition from Protein Shakes. Which ones are you drinking because I am so over the Premier Protein ones. Someone said the Cookies and cream is good. I liked the boost I drank pre surgery but it only has 16g of Protein.

I did NOT like the cookie and cream one. Also, strawberry taste like soap to me. All the other ones taste fine. I bought one but I can't remember the name, to try, basically it was strawberry milk but with 20 something grams of Protein. It was delicious to me.

For people who are on soft foods, how do you know that you are full?

I still eat strictly my measurement. But, when I am getting close I have hiccups, hahahaha, which seems to be very common given a lot of the posts on this site about that. So, I take a break as soon as they start. They are kind of cute. They are really quiet and make me laugh, hahaha. I'm so scared of dumping, that I definitely respect the hiccup warning. Hahahaha. I have felt like I've eaten a little too much once and hmmm, do not want to feel that again. I immediately walked and kept myself vertical and busy which helped some. I also dont want to mess up my body's recovery. So, measuring is my best friend.

I've had a few signals. I've burped, then a couple times a runny nose (that ones still weird to me, I don't get how it correlates but it's happened), the most common one is I feel like air bubbles are coming up my windpipe. They don't quite make it to a burp, just tight air bubbles.

Today is my one month anniversary. Overall, I've been doing ok.

However, the past few days, my little tummy is not happy in the morning. I usually have 8 oz of Water while I prepare for work so I can hydrate first thing in the morning. Then I have a Protein Shake when I first get to work so I can get that out of the way and start the day with a nice load of Protein. But, now my tummy says that a Protein shake is a no no first thing in the morning. An egg is a no no. Yogurt just doesnt do it for me. So, I've tried lunch for Breakfast. That works ok. BUT, now I am also hungry in the morning or something is happening with my stomach. It feels like it wants more substance. I'm on the soft foods stage.

Does anyone who is also in the soft foods stage have any recommendations for breakfast? If I don't drink the Protein Shake first thing in the morning, I also seem to get a little behind with protein for the day. Its hard to catch up once I get really busy with work. Any suggestions?

My little tummy has been a happy camper so far. Just started getting pickier during the weekend. LoL.

Have you tried a different brand of protein shake?

Well I lost 10 in the first 5 days of pre-op liquids. When I got home I could barely get my fluids in and the shakes were disgusting to me so I basically lived off Water until 12 days in when I could start purées. Anything sweet was too sweet and I craved salt like crazy. I finally strained progresso Soups and drank the broth because regular broth smelled terrible and nauseated me. It was pretty rough. But now I’m stuck not losing anything. I’m sure it will pick up again but this is crazy!

Oh I was so sick of liquids by week 4. I'm glad I can now eat soft foods. I'm also grateful that everything I've tried so far has gone down well and stayed down. Just the first day on soft foods everything tasted weird but that's gone away now.

Your doing excellent and weight loss is different for everyone. Just stay the course and walk in 10 minute intervals several times a day. I have spoken to many people that do that and it seems to help.

Thank you! I'm just trusting the process and doing what I'm supposed to and staying off the scale as much as possible. I have noticed it in my clothes though.

Same here. Mine was the 15th. I lost 31 and now haven’t lost a pound in the last 6 days. Since I started regular food. I’ve been living on eggs, tuna, cottage cheese and a little cheese. I started stool softeners due to the cheese and even took a laxative last night because it had been 10 days since I went. I may have lost one more lb since going but that’s not nearly enough. I could def use some pointers too!

Wow! Mine was 4/8 and as of Saturday all I've lost is 14 pounds. I see all these people losing an exorbitant amount of weight and I'm like how? I was on liquids first 2 weeks and have been on soft foods for 1 week. If I'm able to finish 2oz of food that's a good meal. So far I've been able to handle everything, I've had eggs, tuna, Beans, cottage cheese. I know everyone's different and will lose it different but I feel like I'm losing it at an extremely slow pace. I have lost 50 pounds total since I started the program in January so that's something.

I had mine on 4/22, and was up and walking within an hour. Didnt take first BM until 4/25 though and it was fine. I had been taking a Fiber supplement since week before surgery, because the Protein diet did cause some BM isssues and didnt want that coming up again post surgery.

I had mine 4/8, they made me get off to stretcher and walk to my bed when I got out of recovery. I was like ok. Honestly though I never felt pain from my stomach. Just the gas pains but after walking around some they went away within a day or less.

Ok. First half day of work down. I gave myself permission to take a late morning walk at 11a. Walked for 25 minutes. Felt good to not be sitting and to be outside for fresh air.

I learned that eating a scrambled egg for breakfast will not work. I tested egg yesterday afternoon. It was fine. But, apparently on an empty stomach might not be ok. I didnt vomit, but I could feel a little nausea at the very first tiny bite, so I stopped and drank a Protein drink instead.

Ate some blended chicken salad, 2 ounces, for lunch before I left so I could stay on food schedule. No problems. It tasted great. I use a mini blender to break it down a lot since many people on this site say chicken gets stuck for them. By blending, no stuck issues so far.

I did find that I eat a little faster at work then home. So, i will need to purposefully not multitask going forward at work when eating.

No weird questions from colleagues today. I've been gone three weeks, but no one saw me today. I worked in my office and rarely left it today. I start seeing clients next week and start hosting meetings again this Friday. So, I'm guessing questions will start more when I interact with folks more. Today the few comments about my absence were people saying that it's great that i took some time off from work. With COVID, we talk a lot about self care at work. So, I'm guessing that's what folks who are not as close to me assumed. As the week progresses, people closer to me will reach out. You can see a little weight loss in my face. I haven't told anyone at work about my surgery. Only my supervisor knows I was on Sick leave for some type of surgery. None of her business what specifically. We will see if she kept that to herself or not.

Time for water! Using crystal lite. By the afternoon, drinking plain Water comes with a nasty taste in my mouth. So, I drink one bottle of crystal lite a day which is usually in the evening. I limit it to one since it has artificial sugars.

    🙂

I work 12hour shifts, my first day back was yesterday and it killed me. Plus I was only able to get in 2 16.9oz bottle of Water in at work so I had to drink like a madwoman (not really, not that fast) on the drive home and once at home. Fortunately I was allowed to replace a meal with a Protein Shake so it counts as my Fluid intake.

my surgeon did a minor umbilical hernia repair so if people as why I was gone I tell them that. 😂 I haven't told anyone at work either that I had the sleeve done.

I got a card like that on Amazon That asks to allow you to order off senior menu as well. I think the senior menu would probably be more nutritious than children’s menu. You can also ask to order off the lunch menu. I have done that while on diets. I will probably just order salad when I can eat it.

That's a good idea also, ordering from senior menu.

My wife and I both had surgery. We haven't sat down at too many restaurants lately but we have done take out from restaurants about 1 time a week. We both split a meal and if there are left overs, save them for later. We still try to eat as close to plan as possible and have had some pretty tasty meals. We did not receive a medical card for the surgery.

I was thinking about splitting meals with my husband as well. That or just save leftovers for future meals.

Not a common thing in Australia, but if it were I probably wouldn't use for the children's menu - those items are typically full of saturated fats and sugar (unless a fairly healthy restaurant) and i probably wouldn't use it during covid times as restaurants are struggling and I wouldn't expect a reduced price because of a reduced portion.

I typically order the best I can from the standard menu, if I enjoy it I will take the remainder home to use as left overs, if I don't enjoy it, I will generally off load to whomever puts up their hand at the table or just leave it be. The worse I left was a very dry chicken.

I agree, I wouldn't order from the kids menu. They typically are not very healthy. I was thinking along the same line of just taking home leftovers or even splitting with my husband. I was just curious about the medical card I was given.

  13. My hospital gave me a card stating that I had had gastric sleeve surgery and to allow me to order order reduced portions or from the kids menu. I'm curious if anyone else received something similar and if they have used it. Not that I'm thinking of eating out ANYTIME soon but I was just curious.

8 days for me. You better start taking some stool softener today. When I finally did have a BM it was like delivering a couple of large rocks...TWINS! Not fun.

Yeah that doesn't sound fun. I'll start taking some now.
