  1. Goals shouldn’t be based on pounds lost bc our bodies are unpredictable. Goals should be activity-based. Also, your doctor sounds abusive and I think you know that. No one is going to make you see him and he cannot reverse your operation as punishment. Find a new doctor but in the meantime, drop this guy.

  2. So I’m 3 days post op on full liquid diet. Nausea and gas pains are mostly gone and I am able to drink a good amount of Water.
I find myself hungry and full at the same time. It makes sense - my body is experiencing fullness in my stomach and hunger because I’m consuming less than 500 cals a day.
my question is - do those feelings sync up? Or will I always be plagued by hunger while my stomach tells me no?

Surgery in the morning as well. 6am report time. Not really nervous. Was rather calm all day minus one issue with the surgeon's office. Debating taking a laxative tonight so I can have one final BM in the morning before surgery. Bag is packed. Still only one friend knows. Brother taking me in for surgery, but he doesn't know which surgery and he doesn't usually get in my business. And he keeps stuff to himself. Just took my final "before surgery pic" in work clothes. Have not weighed myself since starting the pre-op diet. I guess I will know my weight at the hospital in the morning. Drinking a LOT of Water today. This weekend was the first time I actually thought about food during all this. I think I messed up yesterday by thinking about food losses and eating a treat. That triggered thoughts about food. I haven't been hungry during the 2 week pre-op diet. And I liked the Protein Shakes, until today. So, my advice - dont cheat at the very end, lol. And my dental issues finally got resolved so I feel more comfortable presenting for surgery tomorrow without concerns about dental issues and anesthesia. Sorry for the book. I haven't told many people so this is the place that I get to share about my journey.

My surgery is at 730 am- I’m due in at 5:30. You can talk to me about things :) message me!
I’m glad to be going in the morning, best time of day for surgery. It’s going to be hard falling asleep tonight.

i miss food so much - I keep dreaming of the fattiest things like cheese fondue, pizza, fajitas! But I know that’s my body in starvation mode trying to convince me to eat for survival.

looking forward to the next steps!!

  4. I’m only pre-op but when I’m struggling and craving real food, I try to re-frame my thoughts. Focusing on “I can’t have xyz” makes me crazy and pissed off! So i re-framed as “every second I make choices. No one is making me do anything. I am choosing to be safe and eat what will prepare me for surgery.” In your case, you’re choosing what will help your heal safely. Give yourself props for the fact that every second for the last week plus, you have chosen healing.

  5. Ok back to OP, I just want to reiterate that you cannot control your feelings, and that whatever you feel is totally okay. You don’t need me or anyone else on this board to validate your experience. It’s yours. You have the agency to decide how to respond.

Based on my experience, i try to address the underlying issue from a place of “me and you vs. the problem” or “me vs. you”

Again, I highly recommend Kasia Urbaniak. Her work is life changing and she offers online classes. Plus it’s fun!! She just published a book. She teaches “power” but it’s not power over someone, it’s transformational magical collaborative power!

  6. Feelings need to be felt and they are never wrong. Feelings just exist to tell us something. This is telling you that you might need some reassurance from your husband. I think rather than dwelling on the specific incident, think about what you want and need from him. Ask for it. Kasia Urbaniak is an incredible teacher on asking for what you want.

on another note, I absolutely dread comments about my weight even if they're “compliments.” I am especially Apprehensive on what message my kids will get on weight and the value of certain bodies. I’m not sure what the answer is.

I didn't heed my nutritionist either on most things, not so much on goal weights (which she had none), but just food/lifestyle choices. I am finding that there are alot of nutritionists that go by a set manual and prescribe the same advice to everyone they deal with with little to no customization (i mean, your experience is just another example of this).

I hope that folks do their own research and make decisions on their own observations based on THEMSELVES (along with taking their team's advice into consideration) vs. accepting all that is told to them by a single source.

Clarification: I an not endorsing non-compliance to your surgical team. Merely a suggestion to educate yourselves as much as you are able, or can stand.

My nutritionist has no respect for the fact that I want to eat Whole Foods, not food with additives. She just recommends her crystal light and reduced fat ingredients and moves on with her day. She told me no more smoothies made with greens, yogurt, chia/hemp seeds and berries.

I honestly just nodded along by the end. I will follow the rules for safety reasons for pre-op and post-op, but I find the focus to be lacking health and nutrition in those sessions. There are hundreds of “diets” and some focus on losing weight and some on overall health and well-being, some on both. I think the key is finding what’s right for your body and eating what is in your value system, ie whether you’re vegan or whether you want to eat sustainable or whether you want convenience and affordability.

  8. So I’ve anticipated getting sick of the liquid diet and I also want to get more veggies in so I bought a juicer! I made celery juice to try it today and it wasn’t too bad. It might be something to look into - celery juice is super healing and something different. My primary care doc highly recommended celery and cucumber juices. I’m going to add unflavored Protein Powder (collagen peptides from orgain)

I'm scheduled for bypass on 4/13. Started the liquid diet today. So far so good, although I have a headache due to no caffeine. But that will subside, I'm sure.

This is a revision for me. Got the band in 2009, and did really well, but it slipped about 5 years ago and had to be removed. Of course, the weight is all coming back. Was hoping for the sleeve, but I have a hernia, so my surgeon says bypass is the way to go. So, this is what I need to do to be healthy.

Headache is also just a normal side effect of the diet - I had a persistent one for 3 days and I’m not a caffeine drinker. It went away yesterday, day 4, and I had a lot more energy

Just got the call from the hospital to be there at 5am! First case of the day!!! I’m am so anxious and absolutely full of nerves, but am also excited and happy to just do the damn thing already and get it over with! Fingers crossed for a quick and successful surgery with no problems and minimal pain! Let’s do this!

First is best! According to my surgical tech partner ;)

  11. @Blueslily 3 Protein drinks plus small quantities of lean protein plus veg = 800 calories per day. Also apparently the “keto flu” is a normal thing - once your body starts burning fat over glucose, it’s common that people feel flu-like symptoms. I’m also not doing any sugar free or fat free stuff, only whole food so it limits my options.

also yes they want me to clean with hibiclens but my partner and I are hippies and avoid chemicals. When I had to have a c section for my breech twins (we planned on a home birth), my midwife got me lye soap to use instead of the hibiclens. Also my partner is a surgical tech (responsible for sterility of OR and tools), and he was totally on board with lye. I’m doing it again this time.

  12. @Blueslily I am scheduled for April 6. Doing pre-op diet and it’s been rough. I’m on liquids, Protein drinks, 2 lean Proteins, and non-starchy veggies. I’m hungry, cranky, nauseous, and I have a constant headache! And today, I took magnesium thinking it would help and I learned all about the phrase people use here “never trust a fart.” It was completely embarrassing to run up the stairs past my partner and kids with my pants in my hand, half naked. My partner, luckily, is amazing and supportive and playful. He told me he **** his pants lots of times in the army bc of the diet and regimen. And he keeps making fart sounds to make me laugh. That’s all we can do !
