I have learned over the last few years that you can love your body and still work on things that you want to change.

I completely agree with this. In fact, I believe that sustained change can only come from a place of love and approval.

When we try to change from a place of self hate, there’s a place inside of us that doesn’t want to change - it wants to rebel. So we fight ourselves.
Before my surgery, I wrote a list of gratitudes for my strong, resilient, responsive body.

  2. So I’m not going to say what most people would say on here. food rules can help lose weight but there is a reason for a high frequency of regain. When the rules are relaxed, your body wants to make up for that time.

Rachel Goodman is a dietician who has a program on food freedom. She helps identify food rules and steer more towards intuitive eating with a nutritional focus. If you are 8 months out, this might be a good time to switch gears.

  3. My kids are 3 (twins) so I told them I would be eating differently for a little while. I’ve talked to them a lot about how food is medicine and how foods help us stay strong and have good immune systems. I try to point out what nutrients are in the foods we eat.
I have not gotten into surgery and why but I always try to avoid attributing value to certain bodies over others. I want to keep the focus on feeling healthy and strong. All bodies feel healthy and strong at different weights.

if your clinic gave you a food plan, that's what you really should be following...at least in the early months. Fifteen lbs in a month is within the average range. I lost 16 lbs the first month and started off well over 300 lbs.

The food plan is not aligned with what I believe is important. It is focused purely on losing weight and not on health and nutrition. I’ve made adjustments from the beginning to incorporate whole food but I haven’t given up dairy bc of the Protein. Now that I can eat meat, I’m going paleo.
thank you for your input, but I value whole food over a faster weight loss.

  5. Hey I feel you! It is okay to feel frustrated. My clothes feel loose so I was surprised to discover I’ve “only” lost 15 since my surgery. Total of 25 pounds including the pre-op diet.

I know I had a hopeful vision that my weight would just drop off, but that’s not what’s happening and I let myself feel the frustration.

I will say that I’m going to switch things up next week and try paleo. It’s more in line with my values, so I’m looking forward to seeing how my body responds. It does mean giving up the Protein Shakes but I’m going to track Protein and ensure I’m still getting enough.
I already prepped a few things - including cabbage and bacon Soup that is delicious! Bone Broth is 10g protein per serving!

  6. It’s horrible for the first few days - not going to sugar coat. I was tired, constant headache, crabby. By day 4, I had energy and wasn’t as hungry. Be prepared for the suck fest And keep yourself busy. Avoid temptation (I couldn’t be around while my family was eating). Ask people around you to be respectful of your situation. My partner would warn me or ask permission to eat in front of me.

Also if you find yourself with a headache - up your sodium. You’re not supposed to take meds, but electrolytes will help and sodium helped me. I was allowed pickles and broth.

  7. IMO anyone binging or addicted needs to address their relationship with food in addition to surgery. Check our Rachel Goodman who will help you understand where binge eating comes from or get a therapist to work through your issues.

I used to get so hungry that it was hard to think- hard to figure out what to eat that is nourishing and satisfying. I started to change my relationship with food but the hunger felt like a beast that I had to quiet down by stuffing my face. So the surgery complimented my new approach.

Hi there, I dont have a dislike of Water. It's the metallic taste that I have in my mouth that some people talk about during this process. It makes the Water taste bad. I limit myself to one pack of crystal lite a day because I want straight water really for my weight loss. I will keep trying options. Just wish I can get rid of that metallic taste.

Wasn’t judging the crystal light, it just doesn’t agree with me

Hey April pals, how's it going for you guys? Mine was April 6 and I'd love to keep up with how my twinsies are doing so far. 🙂

    Twins!
I have not weighed myself except at my two week follow up where I was down 8 pounds.

Most things I’ve tried have been fine, I track what I eat and how I feel and my habits (64oz+ Water, walking for 30 min, vegetable juice, and vitamins). When I hit all 4, I draw balloons in my journal :)

During the weekend, my tummy started to act like it does not like Premier Protein chocolate shakes (my favorite) or Crystal Lite Lemonade, another favorite l. Hmmm, on no. I need these both. They help me meet my goals. I'm going to take a break from PP chocolate this weekend and see how it goes next weekend. Will try another CL flavor. I can only drink so much Water without having a nasty metallic taste in my mouth. I try to get through 8 ounces of plan Water. And then the next 8 will be CL. How do we get rid of the metallic/chemical taste?

I never had any issues with water! I love it. Protein Drinks are good still, but I drink iconic. Not a lot of flavor variety though. Since I can’t take artificial sweeteners, I never did crystal light but I have mixed a bit of apple juice or tart cherry but only in the beginning. What about tea? I’ve read about people mixing unflavored Protein Powder in tea. The heat helps dissolve it or something.

I made some cauliflower risotto for dinner.
