  1. Wow, what a successful first three months we have had in our office. I am so excited to be Boise, Idaho's first Lap band fill center. We have meet some incredible people, and love hearing all the personal stories that each of you have brought in. We are seeing some wonderful success stories, and really appreciate the positive feedback that we are receiving.

Due to the incredible success our office is having with Lap Band Fills, we have added a Lap band portion to our website. In order to receive some feedback on our website, we are giving a 20% discount on your next fill, to the first ten people who give us feedback regarding our website.

Simply, just send your feedback to staff@drlukemayes.com after checking out the Lap Band Section of our website.

Each of you have given me some great insight on how to help educate others and I would love to hear your thoughts. If you would take a moment to review our questions and answers, I would like to make sure that they are complete, and cover as much information as possible.

Thanks again for making our grand opening such a great success. By the way, I wanted everyone to know we have flouroscopy now available at a distant location should our patients require it.

Just an FYI remember there are other fill centers in idaho. Please call our office or email us for there number and location.

I have loved being a part of each of your lives and am blessed to see each of you succeed at your weight loss goals.

    many Blessings,

    Dr. Luke Mayes

Just an FYI remember if you are in Eastern Idaho, Cindy Rice is a nurse practitioner in Pocatello that has provided fills for years. She does an awesome job and has been my "fill center" as well. Her office number is 208-233-9355.

  4. again just want to reiterate this IS and has to be an urban legend. It is so similar to the story of the kidney that was stolen in a hotel room or some other dive. this is a delicate surgery and in order to be used as a transplant organ very specific protocol must be followed. there are too many things that simply can not be true in your story. Mexico was a truely awesome place to have a surgery. if i ever need another one of any kind i will go back unless it is an emergency. Not only did i have a lap band put in but i had a vasectomy at the same time, and i am proud to say that i am infertile (confirmed by a us lab). so for those of you wanting to or thinking of going to mexico. GO GO GO do not hesitate. best thing i ever did.

  5. I keep hearing about how many people don’t have good restriction until their second, third or fourth fill, and there’s a couple things I don’t understand. Anyone who knows, can you help me out here?

    1. Does the method of fill (drinking Water vs fluoroscopy) make a difference in whether a person feels restriction after their fill?

    2. From what I understand, is the 'drinking water' method something like having you drink Water as they fill you, until the water won’t pass through your band anymore, and then they take a little out? (I’m only 3½ wks out from surgery, I haven’t had a fill yet to know).

    3. If that IS correct, then how would you not have restriction after the first fill?

    4. If that’s NOT correct, can you please tell me how a fill is preformed with the ‘drinking water’ method?

Like I said, I’m only about 3½ wks out from surgery, but I’m just trying to kind of get an idea in my mind about how all this will work. My doctor typically does fills with the ‘drinking’ water method and I’m kindof trying to mentally prepare myself and understand.

    Thank you so much. :cool2:

you are essentially correct on the 'drinking water method' and you should have an adequate fill after the first fill. however there are other factors at play. Your stomach shrinks after the fill and as you loose weight. I personally had a second fill four weeks after the first one and had adequate restriction on both. the first one just did not last as long as i thought.

  6. hey guys and gals,

just to let you know i tell all of my patients if you are able to consume more than 1 cup of food, eating more than 1/4 of the amount you were eating prior to surgery, not loosing weight for 2 weeks, then you probably need a fill. but just be sure that you are not forcing food down with Water or liquids

    . hang in there.

  7. We do appreciate the fact that you wanted to become a provider in our network, however, as we stated before, we can only contract with medical professionals who have the ability to diagnose and prescribe. We did not feel that Chiropractors can do that within the scope of their job description, for the purposes that are needed in our network. Fill Centers USA provides comprehensive aftercare rather than just the adjustments. Comprehensive aftercare to us, means that the providers in our network need to have the ability to diagnose and prescribe. We are only looking out for the best interest of our clients. We hope that we can move forward with no hard feelings. Good luck to you.

    The Fill Centers USA Team

thank you so much for sharing your thoughts but i would like to correct a few things that you shared. many people do not understand the scope of chiropractic and what it is that we are able to do within the scope of our license. There is only a few Licensed doctors who are licensed to diagnose. MD's, DO's, and DC's. NP's are able to diagnose as well but are not state licensed doctors.

I have the same four year education as any medical doctor however, i do recieve much more in depth education in nutrition whereas MD's recieve more education in Prescriptive drugs. I do not perscribe as you have stated, but i do diagnosis. I just chose to use natural therapies, nutrition, and homeopathy to deal with any issues that comes up. On the occasion that i do need to give a patient a perscription i refer them to the MD next door, whom i have a working relationship with.

I did try to share this with fill centers several times over the phone, but we seem to have miscomunicated. i do not just provide after care fills. I am a fully licensed portal of entry chiropractic physician. I take the entire scope of the patients health into consideration and offer any additional care that will benefit there ultimate goal of weight loss and fitness.

I also have a lab in my office with equipment to evaluate Chlolesterol, UA's, BMI, BMR, and several other pieces in addition to sending out blood draws performed in our office for futher studies and evaluation. Once i recieve those results we use Nutrition in the oral and injectible form as well as IV infusion therapy when it is called for to treat the patient.

Fills in our office are not just arbitrarily performed i am still a doctor and must take my patients overall health into consideration.

  8. hang in there. all i can tell you is that if i had it to do over again i would do it in a heartbeat. I you have any questions call my patient surgical cordinator, she is the one who scheduled my surgery and she will be able to help your husband put his mind at ease. Her name is Jessica you can reach her at 503-539-3023.

  9. I offer b-12 shots in our office as an option for those who are at a stand still, i do see it work. in fact it has worked for me as well when i have been at a stand still for a period of time. It wont hurt to try it out but of coarse consult your doctor first.

  10. Hi there,

I did go to your website and I did call your office. I'll be in Boise on business in late August and it seemed like it might work out.

    Do you use Fluro?

Why is there a $75 "new patient" fee? You are brand new at doing fills. That means that all fill patients are new patients. That would also make us the guinea pigs.

I'll "Guinea" up for a $150 fill, but I won't pay you to be brand new while I'm brand new.

    Just letting you know.

You have brought up some great questions. If you will call my office and leave your name and number i will be glad to return your call and go over in detail why we do what we do and see if we are an office that fits your needs.

Just as an FYI I have offered to be a fill Center doctor on more than one occasion and have been told that they want to open there own facility. To bad, as many other people could have the benefit of local fill center without waiting for fill centers to open.

call if we can help or answer your questions. i will personally call you back.

  11. i had surgery on a friday and was back at work on the following monday. i had to move slower but i did go back to work. hang in there make sure your boss is understanding so you can take it easier if needed.

  12. During my pre-op discussion with the surgeon, he said it all.

    I don't change GOD's plumbing, I just squeeze it.

There is a reason your digestive system is the way it is. Using a band to help you feel more full while allowing your body to work the was it was designed is always better.

i love this quote it is great. i totally agree. i did lap band because of the advantages of not haveing a more evasive surgical proceedure. for a food adict like myself i think this is the best way to go.

  13. A huber needle is bent at a 90 degree angle and was originally designed to be non-coring for access to various types of ports and has been around alot longer than the lap-band. You may refer to my above post to see what my doc uses. Best wishes!!

actually a huber needle is only angled at the most 15 degrees. it is 90 degrees for access on a subclavian artery port. but not for the lap band. ill see if i can get a picture for everyone.
