Severe hip pain that limited my ability to work and exercise, and a hypertrophied left ventricular wall (enlarged heart). I have grandkids now. I have a wife i'd like to grow old with, and we still have a lot of adventures on our list. I want to be able to hike up into the North Carolina mountains and fly fish remote streams.

Yes the arthritis! I was diagnosed at 24 and put on disability for it. It was BAD.

YES! I forgot to mention the sex part too...My husband and I have been together for over 1/2 of our lives and I really want to have a better sex life with him. My weight doesn't seem to bother him, but I am just embarrassed to have him see me without clothing on...we deserve better :)

Oh yeah between us both being heavy we were intimate maybe once a month. For a 26 year old that's NOT ENOUGH

I had been fat my entire life and obese for about 25 years. My moment of clarity was when my Aunt died. She was 88 and in good health up to a year before her death. All at once it hit me that even healthy people die. And I was far from being healthy. Also this was my mother’s sister and her death was very hard on my mom. I decided it would be cruel to take the chance my mom would have to bury her youngest child.

    Good for you!

Bariatric Vitamins are loaded with lots of nutrients, so you do need to coat your stomach prior to taking them. I personally can’t stomach mine whether I have food or not. I tried to take my Multivitamin with Iron and I threw it back up. I actually can’t stomach food or Water currently so hopefully this will pass. I hope things have gotten easier for you.

Yes I get very queasy if I don't eat first

I cleared a path from one end of house to the other and I would just start walking when I felt head hunger. Just back and forth from one end to the other for about five minutes was long enough to distract me and then I would go back to whatever I was doing. I also do this while I’m on the phone or if I have any anxiety and according to Apple Watch I get like 30 exercise minutes a day without really trying.

    Great idea thank you!

Mental hunger? I did not think it was a real thing, until now.

Means you aren't physically hungry you just think you are. Aka boredom. Loneliness. Emotional. I've had it my whole life

Last night I was on a support group meeting (I'm pre-op) and they were talking about "banana Protein pancakes". 1 banana, 1 egg, 1 scoop of Protein Powder mashed in a bowl then cooked like a pancake (apparently it also works in a waffle maker, but I don't have one). It makes two pancakes, they said. I'd never made pancakes before (yeah, I am normally a pretty good cook, but I'm not a Breakfast person). I tried it this morning and it was pretty good, except that I cooked it at too high a temperature and the outside got a little too brown. I would recommend cooking on medium. I just made one big pancake because my pan is too small to separate it into two different pancakes. I didn't have an egg so I used 1/4 cup egg whites. I usually would eat pancakes with maple Syrup, but that defeats the "low carb" so I used a little light cool whip. I know one woman in the support group used butter; I might try that if I make them again.

I tend to make normal meals but don't make the "carb" portion. So, like I'll just have piece of broiled salmon with green Beans. Or I'll eat a can of tuna fish with Suzie's Rice Squares instead of bread/crackers and a side of a red bell pepper. Or if I want lasagna, I'll replace the noodles with mostly eggplant that I roast in strips first.

Chili is another good one. Top it with greek yogurt instead of sour cream (I can't tell the difference!) and some cheese.

I have eaten cheeseburgers/turkey burgers without the bun. I don't like the feeling of eating them in lettuce so I just eat them with a knife and fork.

I like the low carb tortilla wraps by Fiber One and Mission and I'll put deli meat and cheese in them and toast them in a pan with non stick spray for a sort of "melt" or "faux quesedilla".

After a while I have a hard time with Protein powder. The after taste man.... 🤢🤢🤢

Hi I am getting this surgery later this year. I was going in thinking about the bypass and he suggested based on my age, BMI and weight fit the DS. It just sounds so extreme. Can you tell me why you decided on this and things to consider me? I am not concerned about the Vitamins, the surgery sounds really drastic

It wasn't so bad for me but they had great meds

If you go over to www.ketogenicforums.com, they have a ton of info, recipes, a thread like here where they post what they had for dinner, etc. Great source of info. I've been going there for years and it's really helped me and I haven't even had the surgery yet. LOL

    Thank you
