Scared to have surgery!
victoriaciminelli111 replied to Blueslily's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My biggest fear was the pain. However they had me on really good meds after surgery and a pain pump and I didn't feel a thing. The worst part for me was waking up right after surgery and having the gas pains from them pumping me full of air. they actually wanted me to stay 3 days in the hospital and I ended up going home after 2:00 because I had a horrible roommate that kept trying to smoke in the hospital so I checked out early -

That's ok that's still exciting. So your surgery is coming up? Are you having the switch as well? I'm excited for you. The beginning of your new life. -
Just looking to see if I have any surgery birthdays out there. it would be so cool to compare and see where we started out at and where we're at now

For me it helped to freeze the shakes because it felt like icecream. Especially the chocolate or strawberry ones. -
Is it normal to want to eat every few hours like a meal? I seem to be constantly hungry

Are you drinking the premier protein shakes? Sometimes you can freeze those and they're almost like ice cream and they technically are still liquid -

But I do know that in the past two years since surgery I have eaten pizza and been able to eat it like I used to. But some foods like scrambled eggs or sausages or chicken if it's too dry I can only do a bite or two and I'm sick -

The pre-op liquid diet wasn't so bad for me it was the post-op liquid diet and all the mental hunger where I struggled and I was on a liquid diet for 5 weeks total. Most people are on it for two to three weeks. But my surgeon was very strict -

I should also mention that we had two separate surgeries. I had the duodenal switch surgery and my fiance had the gastric sleeve. I had very few medical complications pre-op and he had a lot of medical complications pre-op so every surgery is different. -

Just make sure you have a good surgeon you trust. There are risks with any surgery my fiance and I learned that the hard way that anything can happen. But if you have a good surgeon everything will go great. My surgery was flawless. My fiance's was not and he passed away. Sometimes things do happen but most of the time these surgeries go off without a hitch. -

Best decision I ever made. -
He had a bad gallbladder and two hernias and had had a previous exploratory surgery on his abdomen and the sleeve on top of all that
-
Thank you he actually passed away four months after his gastric sleeve from complications of the surgery. But he was in rough shape pre op.

Yes! I just posted about this. Head hunger sucks. My biggest triggers are boredom and stress. Then I want to still eat everything in sight
-
Certain foods especially. Sausage. Some types of eggs.

Does anybody experience nausea when eating first thing in the morning
-
I'm not sure what it is. However if I eat first I'm okay.
-
Did anyone experience any complications post-op

Complications post surgery

My fiance had the sleeve and had many problems but I believe he had a bad surgeon. He developed an abscess that got infected and blood clots in his lungs.
