    weight loss stall

As you've heard this stall is normal and can last weeks. Happened to me too. But then a few weeks later, once I got moving again, I stalled yet again. I had a sneaky suspicion MY stall was due to lack of protein (was only getting in half of what I should have been a day) and/or not enough calories so I made an effort to increase both and have been losing regularly again since. KNOCK ON WOOD! LOL So maybe that could be your issue too? Just a suggestion.

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

UPDATE: So I've been noticing that I have NOT been getting in many vegetables in since surgery, if at all. You know how they push for us to eat protein first. Well I do that but end up just filling up on the protein and thus getting in no veggies. Wondering if I should worry about that or not? I was thinking of just cutting back on the protein just so that I do get in some veggies but then I worry I won't get enough protein in for the day like I was doing before when I was having stalls. Sigh......what to do, what to do? Or should I just not worry about it for now? I speak to the nutritionist again next month and will mention it to her to see what she suggests as well. As a side, I have now lost 44.7 lbs since surgery and 63.2 total since March but have yet to get any new clothes. Like I feel a lot of my stuff hanging on me differently but I don't really know if I could fit in anything smaller. I used to be in a size 28 for most pants. Like one pair was a 30. But I also have a pair of capris that are 26's. Whenever I would fit them again I'd know I lost weight. Well I have been fitting them for a while and they are finally getting loose too. But not sure I would fit a 24 just yet. Which seems weird to me. You'd think by now I should be fitting into a smaller size. How much weight did you all lose before getting new clothes? Like I feel like I SHOULD be in a smaller size based on the amount of weight I lost but not really sure it's gonna happen. I don't want to buy stuff prematurely. Also, how long before people started noticing your weight loss? Like how much weight did you lose before you had people say anything, if at all? I have NOT HAD ONE person say anything about looking thinner/different/etc. LOLOL Which is weird cause my husband who sees me everyday (and they say it's harder for those who see you often to notice it first) says that he can most definitely see and feel the loss on me. Weird considering no one else has said a word. And I just got done seeing a ton of family who haven't seen me in years and when they last did I was 60+ pounds heavier!! LOL

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

Other than the tugging/burning/slight pain at the ONE incision site, I never would have known I even had surgery. The only time I really had issue with the one incision is when it came to bed time. I couldn't sleep lying down for like 3 weeks until that feeling went away. I was just afraid to tear/pull anything inside that was stapled, not my stomach, even though the surgeon assured me I wouldn't. But yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about that. It really wasn't bad at all.

    Tests before surgery

Every surgeon and Insurance requires different things. That's why it varies.

    Question

I think all I did at my last appointment with him was sign off on everything and he asked me if I had any last minute questions/concerns. Took like 5 min.

    Large incision pain

Certainly contact your surgeons office if you're unsure. Having said that, I went home the next day after surgery and tried walking like they tell you to and I too got that burning/tugging pain when doing so. So I took it slow. My burning/tugging/pain from that incision lasted about 3 weeks. It also prohibited me from sleeping normally and so I slept sitting/slouching in bed for those first 3 weeks. Was no way in hell I could sleep on my side or turn in bed or anything due to the pain there. But yeah, around week 3 it just stopped. I imagine this is what it happening to you. Although I had zero leakage or bleeding. So again, consult your office just to be sure.

    Alcoholic Drinks

Soooo, turns out I tried what WishMeSmaller suggested and mixed the red wine with some diet orange soda. I filled my cup with ice and a little wine and the soda. I took it slow and drank it over 45 min/an hour and didn't feel it at all. No buzz, no nothing. Only had the one cup. Would probably try it again in the future.
  8. I haven't gone down this path yet. I had my surgery on May 19th and since then lost 42.9 lbs. Since March 1st it's actually a total of 61.4 lbs. And as of the 7th of this month, I lost 17 inches total all around. Depending on the way the clothing item was made, I used wear a 28 or 30 in pants. Mostly 28's though. In shirts 3x and some 4x. I have only ONE pair of capri pants that are size 26 that, when I would fit in them again, I KNEW I lost weight. Well they are fitting again but now even they are getting loose..........FINALLY! LOL But I've yet to go get any new clothes/try smaller sizes even though everything I have now is hanging off of me most of the time. Not sure that I will anytime soon. Seeing the amount of weight I lost you would think people would notice but no one has really said anything yet. So, I don't know if that's good or bad or what. LOL Hubby tries to make me feel better by saying stuff like, "that just means you carried you're weight well when you were heavier if no one can tell". LOL Maybe I'll give it another month or two before I try to buy something new and get rid of some of these old things. I don't know.

    Up and moving

Right after surgery. Walked the halls/room. Then continued to move around once home the next day. In the beginning the tugging/pulling feeling coming from the one incision site was slightly painful while walking but I just took it slow in the beginning. Each day got better when it came to that incision site. By week three everything was feeling fine and I was moving normally with no issues, sleeping normal, etc.

    May Surgeries - check in!

I was May 19th. Doing good still here as well. Haven't had any issues with anything and I'm thankful for that. Since surgery I am down 42.9 lbs.

    slowwwww weight loss

Yes, I was IR too. Hard time losing weight, etc. Anyway, I had my surgery May 19th and had the well known stall around 3 weeks out that lasted 12 days. Then I had another one a few weeks later that was lasting over a week until I realized I was NOT getting in the correct amount of protein a day. I suspected this was the problem and so I corrected it and immediately started losing regularly again and still have been. So, instead of getting in around 400-600 cals a day and 30-40 grams of protein, I made an effort to get the correct amount of 60-70 grams of protein and also bumped up my cals to around 600-800 a day and that did the trick. Maybe this is your issue too?

    Update On Me (Surgery: 5/19/21)

UPDATE: I'm almost afraid to post this because I don't want to jinx myself. LOL But, last week I had mentioned in several threads about how I thought my lack of the proper amount of protein may be stalling me more than I should be. I had mentioned how I was getting in like HALF of what I should be a day. So all last week I made a conscience effort to make sure I got 60-70 grams in a day, at least. Well, on July 5th I weighed 275. Today I weight in at 270.3!! So I'm HOPING that WAS my issue and that I continue to lose. I was pretty shocked and happy about the results. Fingers crossed!! LOL

Did I really do the right thing??

For me I was tired until I moved on to the puree stage and had something with more substance, food wise (which was two weeks out). And yeah, they say that in the first few weeks you are bloated and whatnot from the gas from surgery and that that takes a while to get rid of. Are you getting enough protein in? I am about 8 weeks out now and stalled several times (first one lasted like 12 days second one about a week) and I do believe it was because I was getting about half the amount of protein in that I should have been getting. So this past week I made an effort to make sure I at least got the minimum 60-70 grams a day and the scale actually started moving again. So, that COULD have been the issue. I'm sure things will start moving soon for you. Just stick to your program and do what they outlined for you and things will start falling into place. I was worried about the same stuff too. I think many of us do. And everyone else always says to those who doubt, just stick to the plan, it will work. And it does. I'm sure that will be true for you too.

Help … am I eating too much???!!!

Early on when I was on the Full Liquid Stage and Puree stage I asked the same questions. But others here assured me I could get down that volume because it was very thin/liquidy foods like soups and whatnot I was eating. They said once I moved on to other stages I would start feeling my restriction. Well, it was true. Come Soft foods I could definitely start to feel it depending on what I was eating and now that I'm on regular foods, same. Although again, some foods I can eat and feels like I could keep going and others (like mashed potatoes or refried beans) not so much. I guess it just depends on the food and how thick it is. Sounds like what's going on with you is normal and similar to my situation (and I'm sure many others), IMO.

    3 days post-op questions

That stitch pulling/tugging/burning lasted about 3 weeks for me. And because of it I was also not able to lie down for about that long too. I'd sleep sorta sitting/slouching in bed. It sucked! Near the middle/end I was reading about someone else using a heating pad and so I started doing that and it seemed to help. Sugar Free Jello and Pudding counted for me when I was on full liquid.

    Bothered By Heat

I've actually been one to sweat no matter the time of year. Even when I was younger and thinner I was always a sweating (face/head mostly). I'm also one you would NEVER catch wearing a winter coat. I think the last time I wore one was about 25 years ago as a long sweater is the most I'll do. LOL I was hoping that surgery would take care of that for me. Nothing worse than just walking normal with no real effort and then being the only one around with their face soaked and flushed. I HATE IT! Constantly being asked, "Are you ok?" Bleh Anyway, since surgery and losing what I've lost so far (34.9 since surgery but 53.4 total since March), I've noticed I'm not really sweating in the kitchen as much as I used to or when doing housework. I've taken a few long distance walks outside in the heat and have NOT been overwhelmed like I used to be. No huffing and puffing and sweating. Usually I was the only one in the house who was still hot even though the air is on 67 but now at times I find myself being cold and putting the air up higher. I'm still early in the game so we'll see if this is long lasting. I hope it is!! As for being in the the heat, the stomach and water.........I've noticed a few times if I do not eat, or have eaten hours prior to going outside to do yard work or even to just lay out or swim, I start feeling sick to my stomach. But now I try to at least eat a little something before going in the heat and I'll also drink something like Gatorade when in the heat instead of just plain water. I find that that helps a lot!

    When will the stall end??

Thanks for the info. Yesterday I started upping my protein and will continue to do so to see if anything changes.

    Alcoholic Drinks

Yeah I can totally socialize without drinking but I WANT to have a drink with the family. It's been years since I've seen them and we have a birthday to celebrate while they're here too. Just want to be able to have a drink or two. Not going hog wild for sure. And who knows, I may find my tastes for it all have changed too and I won't want it. LOL

    Alcoholic Drinks

I have not. So many good suggestions on here. I used to drink Jeremiah Weed Sweet Tea vodka mixed with Diet Peach Iced Tea and it was great. Until I got sick off of it once. Haven't tried it again since. LOL

Which wine did you have? Like I said, I usually liked sweet/dessert wine the best but want to avoid such things now.

    When will the stall end??

Interesting. I've thought about this and wondered if the lack of protein could be my problem/reason for my stalls. There are MANY days where my protein only falls around half, or a little more than half, of what I should be getting a day. I need to concentrate on upping it, I think. And if I can't with food at least taking it in the form of Genepro. That will get me where I need to be quickly/easily.
