My Barium swallow pics, does this look like a slip?
TheWomanWithin replied to pati-o's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
wow that is neat to see, I haven't seen anyone post anything like this. just seeing the band there is wild -
ok this is weird, mine posted twice, I saw no sig but now I do Please delete this duplication

Paula I do have to tell you, I was really upset at the tone of your last post you are referring to. Being a "newbie" here, I have felt what Mandy is talking about, but I don't let it upset me because I have never been one to engage in cliques of any sort - in life, in games or in forums. I for one, plan to be around awhile, this is a great source of information for Weight Loss and Surgery. That probably sets me apart from others - I stand for me and when I see an unjust thing (like in VQ thread) I say what I feel - and when I get jumped on for it, I stand up for myself with DIGNITY; not nasty hurtful words, so I don't have to go back and edit or delete my posts and 3 days I won't have "egg on my face" so to speak. In Pnut's thread http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=16766&page=16 it says: There are a couple of threads discussing this matter. Please feel free to hop onto them and add your two cents. Who is going to feel comfortable saying what they think, good bad or otherwise if all that is going to is what I have referred to as "war" or get trampled on for their point of view? I was not the only "newbie" to post here - there were 5 or 6 of us and the feeling that I got from the older/higher posters was this: you can post on "our" board/forum, as long as we LIKE what you say then you're in, if not get out. As you can see, "newbies" were not the only ones upset by the full deletion of threads. Hhopefully by someone starting this discussion it will bring a good change. Either way, we ALL have to live with the decisions and rules of the Mods and the actual Owner of this boards, Alex. In the meantime, refer to my new sig -- you can "debate" "discuss" and "argue" any point in the universe and come out the winner and never hurt anyone's feelings. that's my 2cents - can I have change back?

Thanks Kim that sounds like what I need. I am eating right and exercising enough, just tired and starve alot from the shakes and salads. Im lucky to get 5-6 hours sleep and the yard needs weeding, so I will get some and start on my outside now lol
-
I can say I do agree with you there Susan - feed me and let me sleep and Im fine! just dont wake me before my 6 hours are up <growl> I was trying to point out both sides of what I was told and read and BAM I get told off, kind of threw me for a loop. Im still laughing over Funnyduddies and the dead horse post, thought I would never stop laughing over that one - haven't used that icon before. Im too new here to care what happens with the buttons. I'll leave the decisions up the the big guns and the ones who are the "regulars" here. now dang it, anyone seen my old sig? I lost it when I lost my mind :Banane56:
-
I would agree with Susan and Kat here BUT someone might be in a pissy mood and take it the wrong way...oh wait this is the lounge I can say what I want IF I want my toes stepped on. so I won't say I agree with anyone on this issue - just an innocent bystander passing the popcorn to the onlookers lol oh dang! I posted in the wrong section I can't delete or edit now can i? :rolleyes dang it. mod help me here :guess XXX edit edit edit XXX or just delete it and put it in the proper "lounge" place - IM such a newb

Im having an abdominal CT something or other done tomorrow and possibly an MRI next week depending on the CT results. I get to drink this yummy banana flavored stuff tonight and tomorrow and an iv when I go in. Not sure what is wrong, but my Urologist found something on my kidney - might be a vessel or tumor. Please please please keep me in your thoughts that it comes out ok - not sure I can handle rescheduling my surgery a 4th time - or not getting the band at all :paranoid
-
About 15 years ago I had a reaction when a nurse gave me a penecillin shot and was told I was allergic to them. Last night at 9 pm I started to drink the 1/3 of this Barium Sulfate Suspension stuff - ooo banana yummy flavored :phanvan Within 3-4 drinks it was difficult to swallow, but I kept drinking the stuff. My stomach started hurting like heck and cramping (cramping is normal - from what Ive read) While drinking it I started getting this weird headache, almost like my head was made of lead?? weird..I drank it all and about 15 later it starts coming back up. An hour later I could not swallow even Water and barely breath in. My husband was going to take me to the ER but I said no, if I'm going to die, it has to be right here OMG I laughed at that this morning. Took about 3 hours but it all stopped and I drank some tea and went to lay down. I have been up all night with a sick stomach and pain. Anyone know anything about reactions to this stuff? Is this the stuff you have to drink for doctors to see about your band and get fills?
-
Thanks TBM glad I know that now, anything that brings such negativity to my mind is somewhere I do not wish to be. I will keep that in mind and make sure I look up where the post originates from before I dive in lol Knowing is half the battle! wow that is corny but true!

StrawartS again that is YOUR personal opinion, just as I have mine, which you seem to be totally offended or pissed off by or whatever it is. I have been here 3+ months and "looked" around and posted some as a registered user, have been here a bit longer as a "looker" and searcher I didn't just start posting yesterday. I think you and I can just agree to disagree - which is ok with me. I will make sure I do not reply to anything you have to say again since what I have to say seems to be a problem with you. Good that JanetC started a new thread, and YES it is a tragedy that someone deleted some very important information that others thought valuable and didn't even have a chance to take with them.
-
makes you wonder what people are thinking huh ? lol
-
heck no don't dredge up the old stuff. when we live in the past, all that does is create havoc for the present and future (case proven) my point was: that thread about scar stages was a great thread and has helped MANY - if it can be brought back, it would be very helpful to all of us newer people here who are making decisions about WLS or have questions about surgery/scaring. Some people may be gone or have not saved their info or pictures and that can never be regained again. Please bring back the important things that pertain to WLS and WL however you have to do it - that is a neat thing about the Admin and owner they have the right to do that, whether they "dredge" things up or someone else finds it. It's kind of like killing the messenger - Kat didn't archive these threads Google did. We each have our own opinions, some of us just don't take things personally like others. Whether someone likes it or not, by posting things against others, they have involved anyone and everyone who has access to these forums. I think it's really great that some of you have met in person. It's important to have a support system, but to come on a board and rip someone up and down over their thoughts and feelings is not my style and I know how to avoid those types of people and posts. If there is a place here that is set for other information outside of WLS then that's where it should be left. For those of us who click the top screen when we log in, we never know where this is posted - just what is the latest post on the subject. If I offended someone by saying this; then forgive me for being "new" here - I had to look to see what it was being referred to. I thought this was a board solely for WLS and WL. Sometimes it makes me wonder what type of mindset someone is in when they take things the wrong way and are in a defensive mind set with certain posts and topics, but hey, that is just me - I have my faults just as everyone else here does.

rotfl Mary thought I would wet myself laughing at this reminded me of something. We were at cracker barrel1 on Sunday around 1pm. It was crowded as heck and we had a 45 min wait, standing around talking. While we were waiting outside, a couple pull up in a small sedan, get out of the car and the woman adjusts her bra strap, her heels (about 4" black stilettos) puts her purse on her arm and proceeds to lift her micro mini denim skirt up over her hips and pulls her panties out of her crack, pulls her skirt down and flattens the front out like she had done this a thousand times. My m-i-l and I died laughing after they went inside. I could not believe this woman had enough gall to do this in such a public place ~~ maybe I'm just a prude? lol btw...white satin bra white tummy control panties

Junk-Food Jihad - to ban or not to ban
TheWomanWithin replied to K@t's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree here - limit some of the advertising junk. There is just SOOO much out there that directed strictly to children/teens, who are so easily influenced by things of society. How do we as parents know what our children/teens do at school? The schools should not allow coke/soda machines and snack machines in the schools (personal opinion here) School systems should hold themselves accountable for some of the problems of obesity. Point in case: when my oldest children were in elementary school, the school board cut PE yes PE out of the schedule instead of the art program! I had alot to say about that - so did alot of other parents. When they were in HS I found out the school installed coke machines, my oldest son in 9th grade would come home wild and crazy off of Mt Dew and I knew I didnt give him money for sodas, those were for special occassions. Kids are great at sharing and not all parents felt like we did and gave their kids money or the other kids spent their allowance and gave our kids sodas. While this is partly true, it is each parents responsibilty to teach children that what the parents do aren't necessarily "right" or "wrong" . For almost 21 years, I have made sure that each meal we have, each of them have a portion of everything - EVEN if they don't like it! 3 green peas or a tsp of greens looks like a moutain to a kid! wow what a pain my 3yr old is about it lol she says mommy I don't like green peas, so I say baby I know you don't like them right now, but you did when you were younger and you may when you are older, when you want to eat them they are on your plate - they make you grow big and strong and healthy. She just looks at me and thinks and says hmmm, so I hope one day she will like them again. We can each only hope to inform and arm our children what is out there of what is right and wrong and hope they make the right decisions. -
Thank you all ) I go in tomorrow for the CT and will know if I have to have an MRI next week. My pcp was really great catching some symptoms that could have been a disaster - too bad my previous pcp was too self involved to find this 2 years ago with my kidney. I am SOOOO envious of you April Bandsters! April 21 - tomorrow was to be my original date, just cant wait for May 26th now Glad all of you are doing so good, please keep posting updates since I got to know some of you in the last few months. when I had surgery last year, my m-i-l said I could not stop grinning and said something about my dreamy surgeron OMG I died of embarrassment, just hope I don't do that with Dr. Ortiz

MelAnne, welcome to LBT My PcP and I chose the band over GBP for the very reason you state here: it is a slow process, it did not take 1 month for me to put on this weight, nor do I expect a miracle and it all suddenly drop off in a month. Rny patients have problems as well as Lap Band patients. You are only going to succeed as far as you let yourself go - you have the ability and tools now to do whatever you wish if you have the strength to do it. Please do not compare yourself to your sister, each of us have our own strengths and weaknesses. I do not even have my band yet, due to medical complications, but I am chugging along. When I made the decision to get banded and change my lifestyle, I did changed everything ~~ My eating habits (for the most part) my exercising and my way of thinking. I will not stop until I reach my goal. It might take me a year or 5 years, but with support such as LBT it can be done. Do things that make you happen, chart your progress and make daily notes of your NSV's - this all has helped me stay on track and somewhat sane.

taking a break from LBT--pointless
TheWomanWithin replied to vinesqueen's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Im only going to say one thing - and I know you will understand... Leaving & giving up the easy way out - and from what I know of you in 3 months you take the easy way out - kind of like me. sorry if I offend you, but dangit you made me see some things in a different light, now who will do that??? doh edited: made a boo boo in a sentance -
Ok Kat, tell us the secret  maybe a moderator needs to start important threads such as scar stages etc? to delete an entire thread would have to be approved first; or make it to where you can delete only all of your personal posts? I thought you could go through and delete your posts already? I deleted some of mine and combined things like NSV's with other posts since I tend to ramble on so much lol Personally, if I want to delete something it is my right to do so; if not then those rules should be set up at the beginning and no other option allowed. It's like changing the rules of a football game in the middle if you don't like who is winning. since they can be brought back, can the scar stages be copied and pasted and brought back? That thread was really an inspiration (oh boy opening a can of worms here) maybe Im just too new, but why are sex, politics and other stuff allowed on a board about weight loss and weight loss surgery? Certainly that is apt to cause problems. Not that I am against it, I have no problems if there is a place to post things like this - others who are offended need not read or reply to those posts It would be like me getting offended because there is a religious channel on my cable network or a porn channel. I have the ability and know how NOT to click on that station:phanvan I as an adult know when something is not worth going into (like the DaVinci thread) I read it, thought about it and even though I had my own personal opinion, I really wondered what it had to do with WLS. Sometimes things are taken the wrong way because of emotions, chemicals or hormones - or just plain anger and frustration. If someone takes something the wrong way or something is said to you, then it is your perogative not to respond or send that person a PM. With a situation like this, all this does is hurt others. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and it is very unfair for anyone to beat down someone else for their free rights of thought and speech. Sorry if this offends anyone, I just hate to see anyone leave here since this is supposed to be a place of love and support.

-
wow grats! what an NSV!
-
well this brings me to a question: Does this mean I will be full on 1/2 or 1/3 of a sandwhich if you are supposed to eat 1/3 of what you did before banding? I cannot even eat a full sandwhich - 2 pieces of white wheat bread, ham, light mayo & cheese without being full. Im a grazer and eat off and on all day - something like this: slimfast or eas shake for breakfast; cheese or pork rinds for morning snack; chicken salad for lunch; shake afternoon snack or cheese & 5 crackers dinner depends on family (last night was 6 small beef tips and 1/2 cup rice 1 small dinner croissant) Someone in another post told me maybe I wasn't eating enough - not sure if this is going to affect being banded or not?

Thanks Yoda, I take no credit for the majority of it - I was doing research for my teen daughter a few years ago and found this article; stripped it and put it into something she could understand about her body image. (and for me too) I keep everything like that in a file on a cd so when she is older, she can see the struggles with life she has had and hopefully learn from them. At 19 she's still too young to learn lessons the easy way lol
-
Susan you could have asked her what she uses to tan; so you can make sure to use something else because you don't want to end up looking like a prune! hah not really, I'm rarely rude - I would have to come up with something that is friendly, but tart to make her think about her rudeness. hmmmm...

Gone for Good Club - April 2006
TheWomanWithin replied to PhotoNut's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks Susan I keep that on my sig to remind myself... Every one of us have different hang ups about our weight and body images (see my post under messed up body image) If you only see yourself as fat, ugly, overweight, etc. and can't bring out the inner strength to catch up to the outside you set yourself up for future failure. I have a weird thing of trying to live in the future, I don't see myself the way I am - I see me 10 years ago (peter pan syndrome? I don't want to grow up and admit who I am?) lol Well when I am banded I will start <insert option here> walking When I am banded I will <insert option here> start eating healthier you get the point....after rescheduling my surgery twice I decided to live NOW and get my butt in gear. Thankfully I did, I had to reschedule my surgery again.
