  1. One of their challenges was to walk or run up and down a hill for what 14 hours?? I do a little jogging and walking 40 minutes a day. 14 hours in one day??? OMG I cant even think of it.
  2. If you are PBing after only 3 bites of dinner, then you don't need another fill, you might even be too tight the way I read it. The way some feel satisfied is they are only eating 1/2 cup of Protein food or 3 oz of meat (3 oz doesnt do it for me either, Im eating more). If you dont drink and wash it on down, the protein will sit there and that's where you get the full feeling.
  3. I eat everything, salads too. The only food that I notice a small restriction on is fruit. I ate some raw fresh pinneapple yesterday and felt a little restriction, forgot to chew it up and have had that happen with cantelope. Other than that I eat everything.
  4. We arent supposed to eat them??? Where did you hear this. Opps. I bought a whole tray of them from one of those Deluxe Walmarts that sells them, and ate all 12 of them by myself. I also ate sushi on my cruise. Someone forgot to tell me not to eat them I guess.
  5. I think it's perfectly normal for the fill to become less over time, but perhaps since you lost no weight, you are losing inches? If you are losing some fat around your band that could cause less restriction as well. Most of the time people feel less restriction they are also dropping weight. Maybe you are just getting used to the restriction too. Another fill should help, if not then talk to your doctor.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

My doctor put me on Prilosec which is now sold over the counter. We now have a generic Omeprazole which is much cheaper you can buy here in the states, not sure what you have in Australia. I took it for almost 2 weeks before my gas got better, my Dad takes it for the last couple of years on his doctors orders. Its one you have to take every day for it to work, not one you just take when you have gas.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Im in a apt, so I dont have as much space as a house has. I got a deluxe gazelle, but think I would have been just as happy with the cheaper model. The Gazelle is the thing where you walk and your legs swing, harder work than it looks like on tv. You see him with his legs way out in the air, he makes it look so easy. Another problem with a treadmill is you need help to transport all but the mini models (which run more money than a regular treadmill). Regular treadmills were on sale at Sears, except for the small space models. I got my Gazelle from ebay, sorted them by distance and found one about 15 miles or less from home in almost new condition with all the tapes. If you know someone with a truck and a couple of guys you can move a treadmill, my gazelle, my elderly Dad and I got it into my trunk and tied the trunk lid down, it did scratch a little, but it was easy to move comparitively. Moving and space is why I decided on the Gazelle. It is harder than it looks. Tony Little - Detail I dont think you should beat yourself up for eating a little extra on Thanksgiving, if you are up 5 lbs, it will come off fast, temporary gain. I do it on cruises and can get weight I gained fast off faster than usual. Just get back to eating right. My last fill, the doctor thought was too tight, but I can eat anything again once I come home. It makes no sense. I do lose 2 - 3 lbs every time I have a fill, probably from a day of liquids and a day of mushies, when I dont eat much for 2 days, not the fill itself Im telling myself. I was 187.5 when I went in for my fill and swear one time I weighed this morning I saw under 185 lbs now. I struggled with the 190s and zipping thru the 180s. I was barely under 190 this time last week and then dropped several pounds before my fill. Im pleasantly surprised that I still lost weight from the fill after just dropping the few days before my fill. 5 lbs poof in a week. (and I was the one complaining here a while back about losing so slow). This is in spite of eating a full meal on Thanksgiving at my parents. So, eating a large meal once isnt enough to hurt you if its just one meal imo.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Good luck tomorrow. Iv never gotten stuck. I have had a few seconds where it feels like I have to burp, and stopped eating until I did, but I'm not sure this is the stuck folks talk about?. Only once took pills right before I went to bed and learned the hard way not to do that either. You will be just fine. Not everyone has all the bad effects some have. Its very individual. I wish you well on your weight loss journey.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I think that's a little over the top. What do you mean by starting off NOT TO BELIEVE anyone who says they are still hungry. Hungry can take a lot of forms, even head hunger. I know I feel hungry in the evening especially. They even have a term for this first part after surgery called Bandster Hell, its from when you get thru surgery and havent been filled to your sweet spot. They dont call it bandster hell because most people are making it up they are extra hungry during this period and have trouble not eating as much. Bandster Hell is real. Im sorry, but I just disagree with your post. I'm just so happy to see 185 lbs now. It's a long way from where I want to be. Even at almost 5 7, I want to be much thinner for my bone structure, but I can see my face thinning :wink2: Yea for me!!!
  10. Im 5 7 and 185 lbs right now. Top was over 240 lbs. I am small boned and dont think the BMI really takes that into consideration, and Im sure some people would say 120 lbs is too thin, but its what I used to weigh and feel good. I had gotten to where I couldnt hardly bend over and tie my shoes. I cant wash my back in the shower (harder because I broke a shoulder last winter plus the weight). Like most people I cant find clothes that fit right, so I was having to go to ebay to look for clothes. I couldnt walk into a regular store and buy anything off the rack. Even at 185, I cant really zip up a size 18 dress I tried on today, but almost. I dont want to die early from health problems.
  11. I usually check twice a day too, in the morning and at night. If Iv dropped some weight, it often shows up before I go to bed, so I know Ill jump out of bed in the morning and weigh myself nude in the morning to see the new number. As long as you dont obsess about the days when you dont drop, I see nothing wrong with weighing. I like to know and see it, it motivates me to stick to my diet. If Im feeling weak and want to grab something sugary, I jump on the scale to reinforce how good Iv done. Some sources of Protein such as soy powder will make you feel hot and cold. Soy is what is in the over the counter medication for menopause. It does affect your tempeture if you are drinking shakes that have soy protein in them. Its not your imagination.

    What can happen?

There are doctors who will claim that if you dont allow the band to heal and the stomach to rest you could cause slippage down the line, at a later time. The point of liquids and then mushies is so the stomach muscle doesnt move much. Every doctor has the post op diet a little different though, so there are variances, but I havent heard of any less than one month. I could easily have eaten most anything as far as I can tell right off the bat, but they made me have Jello. Even after a fill where the doctor says Im tight Im on mushies still today to let my stomach rest. I nibbled on some turkey just now as today is almost done, I know Im not supposed to have solid food until tomorrow morning. Iv cheated by a few hours I admit a time or three. I did liquids all day yesterday though, as prescribed after a fill. BTW welcome to Bandster Hell, thats what they call the phase when you are not restricted and want to eat more and can, but have to use sheer will power to get thru until you are restricted enough to help your appetite. You sound like you are there. Some people have some swelling after surgery which acts like restriction. I didnt have this, thats why I could have eaten anything.
  13. Where have you found these figures?? Iv never lost 2 to 3 lbs a week, so I must not be doing well either :cursing: I thought 1 - 2 lbs was average. .... and Im walking 3.5 miles a day for exercise, I rarely miss a day.
  14. You are losing on average over 7 lbs a month. I think maybe your expectations are too high. Anything over 1 lb a week is considered good. I know we all want to lose 5 lbs a week, but for most people it aint going to happen. If you are losing steadily, just stick with it and eventually you will be where you want to be. Im impatient too. I think 10 lbs gone is nadda, and then I sit back and count the weeks it will take to lose 10 lbs and step back and say whoa!!! Every 10 lbs to me is a new goal, and each time I pass a new 0 mark, I Celebrate. 23 lbs in 3 months is doing good. Dont get discouraged, just pat yourself on the back. I looked at tickers and dates of surgerys here for a long time before my surgery and realized it would take me over a year to get into the 120s where I want to be. Hard to wait I know, but we will get there.
  15. The preopt diet is to make the liver less fatty and easier for the doctor to move aside and easier to get out of the way once its shrunk, so its not knicked. They will make incisions to put air into your stomach and blow it up, so it doesnt matter how big around you are. Thats what causes the gas pains after surgery. The gas will keep things off the area where the doctor has to work.

Is Your Band Filled To Capacity?

Wasa, I dont think there is any perfect solution, in spite of the fact you continue to sing the praises of the sleeve. Im happy it worked for you, but not all of us wanted such invasive surgery and many of us were not needing that much help, just a little. Jachut if you are within 10 lbs of where you want to be for a perfect size 8, congrats. Im always in between sizes, because Im hippier than I am big on top. You look hot in your avatar, even if being in the middle of size 8 and 10 is a inconveince. We should all look that hot in our avatars.
  17. Wow did your post strike a cord with me. My first two fills she tried 3 cc and went all the way down to 1.8 cc. I went back in yesterday and she only gave me .5 cc more and wanted to take .2 cc out. I went to a different fill doctor and even had my surgeon write her a letter. She brought up again that she doesnt believe I really have a 10 cc band. I think its being scared that tightens me up on her fluoro. She cant put more in because the barium wouldnt go down to my stomach. She uses fluoro and barium swallow test each fill and wouldnt put in a fill if the liquid wouldnt go to your stomach. It is important I think to know what size band you have. Im up to 4.1 cc in a 10 cc band, which is unusually small. I dont feel tight and can eat anything and feel like its not helping me with appetite control. Im walking every day to get the weight off, not dieting like I should. I dont measure or eat Protein first and not drink during meals, but promised I would start that. I have been avoiding sweets and Desserts and walking and jogging 3.5 or more miles a day, which so far has been enough to lose weight. When you say your doctor said the band doesnt work for everyone I wondered if I was one. It doesnt seem to be helping me one bit. I need to try harder. Im just dieting regular, not following rules some here use, none of which either my fill doctor or surgeon imposed, like folks here talking 3 oz protein or 1/2 cup and measuring food. Your reply is very interesting .... and scary.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Whooo hoooo, congrats from me. If you are like me, everytime you cross thru a 0 mark you Celebrate. Im still having trouble being happy with myself. I think Im going to beat myself up until I hit 150 again where I was in 2007. I cant believe I let myself get over 240 and gained about 90 lbs. Im a little reluctant to say never again, since Im doing this again. Finally went in for that fill yesterday. I feel unrestricted and she looks and says Im tight. I dont know what to think. I dont feel full or have trouble eating anything. I had to talk to my fill doctor into leaving me at 4.1 cc, she wanted to take out .2 cc. The only thing I can think of is I get scared and that tightens me up when she looks at the machine. She showed me where the barium was coming down to my stomach in a thin line and again I almost keeled over. I cant look at my innards I guess without fainting. How stupid. I really did need to see what she was seeing so I could know why she wouldnt fill me more. At $200 a whack, Im going to have to not get another fill for a while, maybe when I lose 30 lbs or so Ill get it tweaked. Maybe being scared is like stress I told the doctor. Some say when they are stressed they get tight, Im getting tight when I get scared. She uses fluoro and barium swallow (I did it at least 4 times before she finally agreed to leave me at 4.1 cc). She started in again that maybe I dont really have a 10 cc band. I said I showed her a letter last time I had the surgeon read that said I did when she questioned it the first time. Its a myster why I cant be filled more. I finally got my fill, so thats all the help from my band Im going to get, so Im going to try portion control. lol we will see how that works. I KNOW Im eating way more than 3 oz of meat at many meals.

Where did I go wrong? (HELP ME!)

First off, you show being down 55 lbs and Iv been banded more than a month before you and down less, so you are not doing bad. I agree with your doctor 1 - 2 lbs a week is normal. You wouldnt lose huge amounts every week. I do think its important to get back into exercising and eating right. If you are losing this fast and go off one or two days, dont panic. This is for the rest of your life. We all want to be at goal now, but if you lose a couple of days here and there, it might help you later so you dont burn out and backslide even worse. No one is doing a diet every day of their life and never allowing themselves some treats. Its a tough time of the year, be kind to yourself, without giving in to temptation all the time. Once in a blue moon is ok.

Is Your Band Filled To Capacity?

I read a nurse's reply on this band on another forum. I think she said a 4 cc band can be filled to 4.8 cc, because the tubing holds extra in addition to what is in the band. I have the opposite problem. My fill doctor keeps saying I must not really have a 10 cc band, because she cant put much in. I went today for a fill and she put in .5 cc and wanted to take .2 cc out. I think my fear of needles causes me to get tight. Because once I get home, Im no longer tight. I almost fainted on her again today and had to go lay down. I havent ever felt good restriction, and yet my fill doctor says I am as tight as she will get me. I had to talk her into leaving the last .2 cc in. Im at 4.1 in a 10 cc band.
  21. I don't really have any restriction. I put off my 3rd fill until tomorrow morning, so yesterday and today was good by to solid food for a couple of days. I personally dont think its so bad for me if I dont get crazy with the bad stuff like bread and pie and cranberry sauce, the sugary stuff. I ate more than I should have, but tomorrow its back to a day of liquids, oh no. I refuse to beat myself up, I think eating extra is ok once in a while as long as you dont do it all the time.
  22. I complained about being able to eat too much to the doctor's husband who answers the phone and he told me I probably stretched the pouch. (cant be that they didnt give me enough of a fill?). So, Im paying for another fill in 2 days to get tighter and see if I too can cut down on portions. Iv also heard it could be the loss of the fat in the abdomen, and Iv been walking daily, so I have to be losing fat there.
  23. I had read once before about pain after eating or drinking and wondered about it, since Iv never felt anything I would call pain. Interesting. I think I would try and ride it out since you can still do liquids. My fill doctor wouldnt fill me near that tight. She checks with barium after each fill and watches it go into the stomach and if its not going fast enough, she removes part of the fill. Id personally like a tighter fill, but she wouldnt do it. I see most advise a unfill. Im having another fill in 2 more days and was hoping to get tighter, but maybe this is a case of not wanting to get too tight, there is too tight too. Sounds like good advise you are getting. Having never been too tight, its hard to imagine, but I know I wouldnt want to be there either, just want to lose faster. Get a small unfill if by Monday you still have trouble with liquids.
  24. Pain??? Iv never had pain from eating. I was told to stay with mushies because it would help my surgery heal, not because I was physically unable to eat solid food. I did sneak a little chicken without mayo before my month was up. Never heard folks have pain from eating certain foods until you are stuck? and thats what you mean. I havent really got stuck for more than a couple of seconds, no pain ever.
  25. I can eat tacos and chips both. A little resistance if Im trying to smush too much in at a time and dont chew the shell up enough before I swallow. I try not to eat things like this though since chips are carbs and so bad for you. I eat them maybe a couple times in a month.
