  1. That makes me so happy to hear, I too was afraid to tell my surgeon, but he called once he found out just to assure me everything would be fine. He said even though it isn’t ideal because they wanted the weight to be off first, all the other patients that have gone through this had healthy babies. Congratulations on the birth and weight loss, thanks for responding

Wondering if anyone would like to share their journey getting pregnant within a few months post op from the VSG surgery? How did the weight loss work while growing a baby? Did you still notice your body changing? Did you lose weight after the baby was born? Thank you!

I too got pregnant 4 months post op, so nerve racking… everything seems to be normal so far, but I keep losing weight and am concerned my baby isn’t getting enough nutrients. Surely you’ve had the baby by now? How did everything go?

  3. Hi all,

I had the gastric sleeve surgery done in December and found out I was pregnant in May. I know it was advised to wait 12-18 months before getting pregnant, but I had a slip up. It’s all good news to me seeing as I never thought pregnancy would be possible at all for myself. I think like all first timers I am nervous about many things, my surgeon called me to reassure me that while it’s not ideal he is sure everything is going to be fine. I’ve lost nearly 85 pounds, but this week gained 2. Anyways, I was wondering if there are any other sleevers who have gotten pregnant and if they could tell me what their experience was like, during pregnancy and after. Will the weight come off just as easy after the baby is born?

A few people have suggested the Shirataki noodles. I may just have to try them. I have to stay away from anything "white", as I does not digest well.

I am also not able to digest anything white....but I am not sure if that is because I am only 2 months post-op. Sometimes it is sad to know I cant ever have a thin crust pizza again, but then I think about how much of it I have had in my life and that there are so many substitutes to things that I cant even complain.

I wanted to try and make homemade Pasta with almond flour.... I will let you know how it turns out.

I am happy WLS is working so well for you.

I would like to lose weight quicker. Even when I eat small amounts the scale doesnt move much. So trying more of a Keto approach of reducing my carbs. Replaced Breakfast with a Protein Shake and lunch with a tuna salad. Heres hoping...

I think you will find success this way, you might even want to throw in a quarter of an avocado in there. I’ve mostly been eating eggs, avocado and salad... tuna is a great idea. I am going to try that next week :)

  6. Today is 1 month and 1 day since I had my VGS surgery. And I can’t tell you all how happy I am to have had this surgery. It has made all the difference in the world to my life. I have 10x the amount of energy I used to have, almost like I have a bounce in my step again.
    My SW: 260
    My CW: 217
    GW: 175-180
It just seems like it’s really working.
What I wanted to share with some people that seem to be struggling with the weight loss is that I have made my diet mostly Keto. I understand carbs are just as important during the recovery time, but being more keto has helped the weight come off faster. Faster than even when I was not eating much after the surgery. I am really surprised by how fast it is dropping now... I think I’ll be at my goal weight before I even know it. Because of all this new found energy, I have been able to do so much more. I want everyone to be this happy 😃

Today was my follow up appointment with my Dr. I had my sleeve on 12/15. I told my dr that I’ve been walking two miles a day for the past week. He was not impressed. He said walking will not help me loose weight; sticking to the diet will. I was kind of deflated because I thought walking was a good thing. 😪

He could have said that in another way. I think it is sooo great that you are walking. It speaks volumes to how seriously you are taking this lifestyle change. I think maaaaybe the doctor was trying to say it’s 80% diet and 20% exercise and wants you to make the diet a priority? I’m not sure, but in any case.. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK

I am 4 months post op, and pretty lucky in that things seem to have gone quite well so far. Something I've noticed in the last month or so though is how hungry I feel at night, and sometimes I feel like I really need to eat before I go to sleep, which is usually about 4 hours after my last meal. I often wake up feeling the same. Right now I am awake at midnight, not being able to sleep and and feeling like I need to eat. I don't think it is head hunger because I don't actually want to eat, it's more like a sensation of emptiness. Has anyone else had this? Am I actually hungry?! I am consuming around 500-900 calories a day. Pre op I was told I was prediabetes, so I wonder if my blood sugar might have something to do with it. Maybe I need to spread my meals out a bit more? Any ideas appreciated.

Maybe you can consume something like a stalk of celery before you go to bed or when you feel hungry? I am two weeks post op and sometimes I get that hunger you are referring to, but am not able to consume much right now. You might also not have enough Protein throughout the day? Just a though

I also had a huge energy surge. I could only sleep 4 hours a night, and felt like the energizer bunny on steroids. I got a bike and did a triathlon and a 50 mile bike race in the first year post op. I think it is the ketosis of rapid weight loss that causes this. I started walking right away, hitting 10,000 steps a day by the end of week one, then speed walking, climbing stairs, upper body and leg exercises. I used very light weights ( 3 pounds), and did wall pushups, as well as a stretching routine. I went up to 5 pound weights on my arm exercises. Was training to do a one day rim-to-rim Grand Canyon hike, and then Covid hit and the world changed. And ketosis stopped, and I don't have all the energy now that I did a year ago.

I say go for it! But please, please, please follow your doctor's instructions to the tee when it comes to weights and lifting. There is a lot healing on the inside that you can't see and you DO NOT want another surgery to repair a hernia or any other damage. But use all the energy you have now to your advantage. It will put you in great metabolic condition and help the weight come off even faster.

PS: We have about the same height, starting weights, and BMI. I reached my goal of 149 within 7 months. I know that is pretty fast, but I want to encourage you to go for it. You will hit 180 pretty quickly and may well discover that your body wants to keep losing. It was so exciting to get to a normal BMI. So great to hit 180, but then don't be afraid to go lower. The energy surge really helps.

That is good to hear, I will definitely be speaking to my surgeon to see what he has to say. I have another appointment with the doctors' in 2 weeks and I will bring it. By then it will be about 4 weeks post-op. I am just trying to keep the energy going by doing what you said you were doing, walking, maybe 10,000 steps. I guess its a good time to put my Apple Watch back on haha. It has felt like forever since I have had this type of energy, this type of motivation to get things going in my life. I thank you for your information, it is more helpful than you think, but I will seek out advice from a doctor before I do anything too strenuous

  10. I have noticed a tremendous amount of energy since having my surgery just over a week ago. I am not trying to push it because I do not want any complications. I know that it is extremely early to even have this cross my mind, but to be honest with all of you I feel like I am having the smoothest possible recovery. I have just started having a little bit of yogurt today, and want to be able to jump start some sort of fitness regime while I have this good feeling. I have not been doing much except taking the dogs out for an hour walk around the block. Does any one else have new found energy? Want to work out but know they cant? When is the safest time to start something?

Well I am officially 7 days post-op. I took a big hit from the anesthesia. Took me all night Monday and all day Tuesday before I could focus or feel like I wasn’t going to fall asleep the second I relaxed. The day after I got home from surgery the doctors office called and when I mentioned I struggled with anesthesia she said. “Yeah I heard.” LOL And the pills. I was taking a ton of pills. Felt like I ate more pills in those two days then I had eaten anything since my pre-op diet started. Reflux hit as well as gas pains and it was rough so I stayed an extra night. I am doing well now. Managing pain with Tylenol and trying to get up to my 64 oz of Water and 60g of Protein. Motivation is hard at times but my wife is great. It’s a slow process and I am working on getting my mind wrapped around what happened and what life is going to be like. And my kids have been amazing. Well not all the time. But they have been really careful around dad and I’ve gotten a ton more cuddles from the kids. My oldest (11) does get worried and when he came home from school today he told my wife he felt like something was wrong. I was in bed taking a nap. She got out of him that he was worried about me. So we talked and I was able to reassure him that I was okay and things are getting better. It’s a good feeling to know that your kids care about you enough to worry. 😀

I noticed I am also noticing that my heart is beating really fast... is that happening to you?

Congratulations on making it to the other side! Just think about all the wonderful opportunities this is going to present for us! I am 4 days post and feeling good, the weight is coming off, I am not in pain, but I am having a very difficult time getting all my Water and Protein in. Sounds like you are doing a great job! I find everytime I drink some water I develop a gas bubble, any tricks on how you are getting your water in? Tomorrow morning I am to talk with the doctor.

Just started. Now I’m 6 days post and feeling better but my intake hasn’t improved much either. I can drink a whole bottle of Water 12-14 oz and or Gatorade, but not a bottle of Protein Shake.

    Check up is soon.

    Im telling it all.

I had my surgery not too long ago either, while I was ambitious to get all liquid, Protein, etc in, I have to admit I am sort of failing too. I consume a water bottle a day, some of my shake and maybe some broth. That is all I am consuming right now

    Hi,
Just had my surgery in 12/15 and I feel really gassy plus my body decided to send me my  monthly gift too, aka my period. Any suggestions on food intake. I’m allowed to eat mushy foods but I’m scared now. Today I drank half a bottle of Protein Shake with no problems. Also drank  Protein water and regular Water too in 30ml (1oz) cups. I don’t want to over do it. How will I know it’s too much? At the hospital I threw up a lot because of the meds and the contrast. I don’t want to throw up at home too.

I threw up a lot at the hospital too... honestly thought I was overdosing on morphine, but they kept giving to me regardless of me telling them the pain was manageable. Honestly felt like a drug addict lol, I would wake up from a sleep drooling and then throw up. And then do it all over again. I would suggest you start writing everything down, how much you intake and how you felt after. Maybe after a week or two you will notice a pattern.

    Hi !!

i had my vsg surgery on December third but I’ve been craving so many thing including pickles. Would it be a bad idea to eat a pickle without the skin ? Also, how do you deal with having people in your house eating all the amazing delicious food meanwhile you’re sitting eating puréed food ?

Don’t forget why you started this journey!

Before surgery I was working in a warehouse working 12hr shift with all the extra weight with no problems. Now that I've had surgery and lost 55lbs I can not do it. Last night was my first night back on a job. My feet and back were paining but that's expected because I'm getting back into standing for long periods of time. Around the 8th hour I started to get weak dizzy and my ears started ringing. I tried drinking Water and body armour lite to see if it would help but it didnt so I got sent home to avoid passing out or hurting myself or someone else. I'm not even sure if I should go back. Im so hurt, mad and frustrated that I had the surgery to have a better quality of life and now I feel weak. I've cried for hours wondering why? I had surgery September 23. Why do I still feel this way?

I think that it is very important to remember calories in vs calories out. A lot of us forget that our body is already burning calories (the muscles do that) throw in extra movement like work and you’re definitely burning more than you are consuming. I think it’s a good idea to increase the amount of Protein you are getting. I also think it’s important to maybe be on modified duties, you haven’t moved those muscles in a really long time. Even though you’ve been off work for awhile, it’s important to take it slowly. This is also just what I think, I’m not a professional, but just some input.

Are 100 calories a day too little? I'm eating 3 times a day but it's always less than a bite, that's my limit.

However in each videos or forum post I see, people tend to eat at least half a cup or more, about 600-800 cal a day 2 months post op.

I drink a glass of milk/juice a day in addition to the meals.

I think it’s important to know that everyone is different, even though we have gone through similar procedures (sleeve or by-pass) we are going to react differently. 100 calories is very little, are you ensuring you are getting Protein in? Tried sipping on some shakes through out the day?

  18. Hi all, I had my gastric sleeve done on 12/17! It’s been wild but tame for me. I am having pain, not terrible but I think it is gas, haven’t had to use much of the pain killers because it is totally bearable. Trying to get all my Protein in is a bit difficult, but everyday is a bit easier. So far since starting the liquid diet, I am down 25lbs woot woot! I’m excited to be on this new path, any suggestions on how I can ensure I get enough Water and protein during this time? I can barely eat a cup of Jello without feeling full for the whole day.
