  1. I used to drink lots of soda. I was hooked on Dr. Pepper. Since surgery I've cut it off, but everyone once in awhile, I want a sip. A couple days ago, I took a VERY small sip of my husband's and held it in my mouth until it fizzed up and had no more fizzy bubbles. Can anyone explain the real danger with soda. My doc says no soda, but doesn't really offer a satisfactory reason as to why.

I can live with no soda... and I don't crave it or anything. I've been so good since I cut it out and have been very surprised at my will power regarding this subject, since I have unsuccessfully tried to eliminate it from my diet during pre band life. I'm just wondering about people's perceptions on soda.

oh i understand i was addicteed to diet coke and have not had any for 6weeks its good caus ei just drink Water but i try not to think about it.

My doctor actually told me to much soda can eventually rot the band and it is full of sodium which cause ur stomach to swell hope this helps

  2. I would be more than happy to mentor anyone who needs it. There were so many need-a-mentor posts on here that I didn't know who to pick, so I'm putting my availability out there and you guys can let me know if we'd be a good match.

I'm a 36 year old mother of three. I live in rural Kansas, but hopefully not much longer.

I started my band journey at 303 pounds, having peaked at 311 before getting pregnant with my baby #3.

I had surgery in Denver, Colorado, on February 8th, 2008. I have had almost no complications and wake up every day almost giddy about the change this has made in my life.

I've lost 80 pounds as of yesterday and have 63 or so more to go. My approach to the band may be a little different than some, so here's where I'm coming from. I'm very afraid of getting overfilled. I believe that an overfill is the source of so many different problems, I just really want to avoid it. I have that luxury, since at my current restriction I'm still losing weight. I'm not what you'd consider tight. I've been able to eat everything I've tried, even a bagel, or bun. (though those aren't common choices for me.) I'm at 7 ccs in a 10 cc band. I've only had two fills to get me to that point.

I believe in being able to eat a reasonable portion of healthy foods and doing that has helped me be able to lose the weight I have lost so far. I can eat a fairly normal sized plate of food for a meal, so I try hard to make sure I'm making good choices about what that food is. I'm not plagued by constant cravings for junk food, though after my recent two-week vacation, I've had to employ some willpower to get out of the habit of eating less-than healthy foods.

If we sound like we'd be a good match, let me know and we can set up a buddy/mentor situation.

  3. My wife is going to get the lapband this September. I am trying to get all the risks about this procedure. There is one that nobody has answered and maybe somebody has experienced this. Two years ago we came down with food poisioning and had sudden explosive vomiting for two days. What would have happenend if she had the lapband in place?

you no thats interesting i have thought about that so i am going to ask my surgeon will keep you posted k

  9. hey bandsters.

i am being banded july 22nd (!!!!) and i am SUPER excited.

but like most people, i am getting a little nervous as my date creeps closer...not about the surgery though, about post-op and the lifestyle changes and everything. i guess i just need some advice or guidence from someone who has actually been through it all.

my mom and i were talking today about after my surgery and while she is sooooo supportive, my mom kept saying things like, "do you think you will actually be able to loose the weight? & "what are your expectations?" & "are you really going to commit to it?" not that she thinks i won't be able to lose the weight, she just doesnt want me to fail again like i have a million times before. it just got me thinking...

i guess i just need to know that i am not the only one who thinks these things pre-op and that somehow we bandsters find our way...

    i am just nervous....Lindsey

hey their i am getting banded on the 21st july i am a little nervous currently on the pre op diet and it is getting easier get on the chat sights and talk to people thats how i am getting through it
