  1. I literally just got on the site because I was going to ask this same thing. But first I was like let me scroll some posts I may find an answer. I had my sleeve on 10/29/2020. I just started regular foods. I haven't over ate, haven't had any sugar, I've been trying to keep my sugar at like 1 gram if any. And the little tiny bit I just started eating I make sure its healthy. My weigh days are Tuesdays, I cheated and weighed Friday too. Was down to 301. I weighed today after my bath, and am at 303. [emoji15][emoji15][emoji15]. I'm hoping it's what was stated above. Water retention or something. It got me feeling a little down I won't lie tho.

  3. Ok, so this is probably not what you want to hear but ...
When you had your surgery, most of the area within your stomach that produces the ‘I’m hungry’ hormone, ghrelin, is removed. Small amounts can be produced in the brain, pancreas & small intestines. So while some of the hunger you are experiencing may be real, most of it is likely head hunger.
You’ve been on a liquid diet for weeks & consciously or subconsciously you’re probably bored & wanting some solid food & the foods you always used to eat. You’re also coming to terms with smaller portions, eating slowly & less frequently. Your head is saying to you: this isn’t enough food for me I need more. Plus this has all been very stressful. Prepping for the surgery, the surgery itself, the change to your diet, etc. & many of us turn to food when we’re stressed or emotional. This is all head hunger not real hunger.
This is some of the hard work you have to do. Understanding your hunger - why you eat, when you eat, what you eat - is important to your success. But you can do it. It will get better & easier. Just give yourself time to come to terms with it all & what it means for you.
It’s going to be soooo worth it. Good luck.
BTW - Protein reduces the production of ghrelin - another reason why you need to work at reaching your Protein goals each day.

Thank you. I def realize this is going to be a big adjustment. I ate some Soup for dinner, and felt just fine. I think going back to work, I'm use to snacking, and going out to eat with my coworker so I was just in my head most likely. Ty for your response

  4. Hi Joanne - I' 6 days post op and feel like I've been hungry since day 3! My program has me on Clear Liquids until my 1st post op appointment which is 8 days post op. I am so hungry, and it's definitely not head hunger, it's real hunger. I can't tell you how excited I am to move to the full liquids stage. I don't need to feel full, I just don't want to be hungry.:) I'm hoping other people who have gotten a sleeve and are further out can confirm that being hungry in the beginning is normal for some people!
I'm on the full liquids stage. But today I feel like it's just absolutely not cutting it ! Hopefully this will pass for both of us soon!

  5. I am 5 days post op. I got my drain out today. And literally ever since I have been feeling soooooooo hungry. Omg. I tried "eating" a little more of my broth, didn't help. Tried doing a Protein Shake, hasn't helped. And I'm feeling hangry and just want to eat . Has anyone else had this problem.? Please tell me it goes away. I've been doing good not really feeling hunger, but today is horrible !!!

  6. I have this chronic skin condition called Hidradenitis also known as HS. I am 4 days away from being 2 months post op VSG and having the worst flare up i have ever had! I am in so much pain under my arms. Has anybody ever heard of the condition worsening after surgery? Is it because of the hormones? Change in diet? What have you done to treat it and any remedies would be helpful!

I have the same thing. I haven't had any bad flare ups, but I also just had surgery last week. Try getting a rag and get it as hot as possible, and let it sit on the bump. You may have to go get it lanced. Sorry you are going through that I know they suck !

  7. It should. Very very careful with the size of the swallows and take a little sip, sit down the cup and wait a minute or so, then take another being mindful you're new tummy fills up quickly. You are still healing so give it time. If it still hurts to a point where it becomes difficult to drink and it is keeping you from getting in your daily amounts, you may want to call your Dr. As they likely warning of dehydration, the first week is about small sips all day. I know it gets rather tedious and my Dr. recommended I take time off of work just to focus on my drinking. He was right and it's quite the arm workout sipping, putting it down, sipping again a couple minutes later, sitting it down. I used the little cups the hospital gave me the first couple days to keep track, then shifted to a Nalgene bottle with the gauge on the side to keep track. Give it time and you'll get there. We are with you on this journey.
Are you able to drink a little more than just the little sips as some time passes?

  8. I started my pre op liquid diet almost 2 weeks ago. I did pretty good, I cheated twice, having a subway sandwich one day for lunch. And another night I had a oriental chicken salad for dinner. Other than that. I tried my best to stick with it, and on surgery day I was down a total of 16 lbs in a week. I had my surgery Oct 29th 202p. I'm currently on day 4 of post op. The 2nd and 3rd day of was feeling very overwhelmed. Emotional. Was wondering if I made the worst decision of my life. The pain I felt was mainly from the air and gas, omg that was horrible. But here on day 4, I don't really have too much pain, except where my drain currently is, and only sometimes. I get it taken out on a couple days. But I'm starting to not feel as emotional, glad I have my mom here to help me out as I am a single mother of 3 kids. Without her, lord I couldn't of done it this far. I'm starting to feel alone better about the decision I made. I'm on my liquid diet right now, and I haven't really thought about food, the only thing I want to do more than anything is GUZZLE a glass of Water !!! Lol. Taking small sips throughout the whole day helps I suppose. LOL I just feel so thirsty. I am glad I found this support forum, I love reading everyone's journey, and I'm glad to be here !
