    I'm Doing It!

Is it decaf coffee or regular coffee that you drink? I probably will give it up all together from here on. Donating my clothes might come with a sine loss just because I'm a sentimentalist, but hopefully when it happens I'll be too busy celebrating the weight loss that I won't care. Are your parents interested in adopting a grown adult? Sell it.... no poopie diapers, tantrums, back talk... etc.... I'm not a demanding person, but only one thing, if you get a new wardrobe so do I! No playing favorites! I started my liquid diet today and at moments wondered if I really wanted to do this. It's insane. I thought this would be a cake walk. I'm only one day in! The rebellious part of me has a hard time with restrictions. Bed time is going to be super early from now on. Did you have to do a pre-op diet?

    Anyone 30-31 BMI pre op?

You're welcome! I love this forum. My words picked you up and yours gave me hope and excitement! Last year I had muscles because I was lifting, but haven't done anything since then! I'm definitely going to start doing arm exercises at 4 weeks to avoid bat wings if possible and walking until I have the energy to do more. I'm sorry to hear that you've hit a stall. I've read so much about these stalls, but I see that you're ten pounds away from your goal weight! Hang in there....try to focus on your success and don't dwell on not losing as you have envisioned it. The attachment to our vision of success often causes unnecessary pain. I wish I had sound advice for you, but I'm so early in the process. I have read that some people far out from surgery date break stalls by changing up the diet and exercise pattern. They play around fluctuating calorie intake. I've read some interesting posts on that. You may want to look into it to see if that helps, but the most important thing right now is that you love and appreciate your hard work, dedication, and determination. Always celebrate how far you've come!

Congratulations Kristy72! We're on the road to better health. We'll eventually join the rest in saying that it was the best decision we ever made! Until then, we have this great community for support and resources.

    I'm Doing It!

Did you have to drink it black and decaff? I'm surprised that you're allowed to drink coffee. I'm going to ask my nutritionist. I need to have milk and honey with mine, so I don't think it'll slide. Thank you for sharing your experience. Hopefully I'll mirror some of your success! Have you had to throw out many of your clothes? Were you happy to see them go or was there some melancholy with the process? Your nachos sound yummy minus the sour cream! Not a fan of sour cream. I've read that taste buds change, so who knows maybe I'll like it after surgery! Oh, one more question... how's your hair?

    November 2020 sleevers

I start my preop diet tomorrow. I hope that I lose some weight in the process too! I haven't laid out or measured my eating choices, so I better get to that today. I want to avoid entering a grocery store during the diet, because of course cravings that I didn't even know existed will come out in full swing. I wonder if there's a better outcome pertaining to the emotional aspect of the surgery for sleevers who had to do the preop diet vs the ones that didn't. During the 2 week diet phase, the emotional attachment to food can be worked out instead of doing it all at once after the surgery.

    September Sleevers Update

Hope that you're all doing well today. I'm scheduled for 11/6. I'm wondering when you say that it hurts to swallow, is it at the throat or as the food drops down and travels through the esophagus? Any details are appreciated.

    November 2020 sleevers

I hope what I wrote on our surgery list made sense! LOL Anyone is welcome to fix it if you find a way to explain it in a less confusing way. I decided to tell only a handful of people about my surgery. If I told everyone, some will be very supportive and a few will give me a million reasons why I shouldn't. At the moment the only people I've told are, hubby, 2 siblings, and about 3 friends. For now am keeping kids in the dark about it. I'm expecting plenty of upset people when they find out that I didn't say anything to them, but I just don't want to open myself to opinions and possible injections of doubts. Once I've done it and gotten over recovery, then I'll be more open.

This reply thing is finicky. Ugh. It deleted everything had typed. I foresaw the putting it in order suggestion coming as I had thought to do it, but didn't have the time at that moment. Thank you VickieRenee for taking care of that. I'm going to make one more change to it, so hopefully we can keep track of who was the most recent person who entered their date. I'll re-post it in a a few minutes, so it's not part of this message.

    I'm Doing It!

Love your simple solution! We need minds like you. I see you got sleeved in August. How's it going for you? Happy you went through with it? I was going to start my liquid diet today, but at preop I was told I could start Saturday. Today I woke up thinking, "And why am I going to give up coffee a day before I have to?" LOL I sure hope this is in no way an indication of what's in store for me.

    November 2020 sleevers

Congratulations! You must be over the moon. I remember how excited I was when I got my date and, like you, I was also nervous. I shook off those nervous by coming to the forums and reading posts from veterans sleevers about their success. It gave me hope of great health and reminded me why I'm doing it. I'm a few days before you and start my preop diet tomorrow! I've been having food funerals, so I'm so ready to start! I'll let you know in a few days if I was REALLY ready to start. 😉

    I'm Doing It!

I agree with you. Checking in and letting go helps to keep us more sane. I hear ya! I'm on the extended release kind for Metformin and I've been rather miserable on it. Early on I told my PCP (primary care physician) that it was causing havoc on my stomach, but he said all medication will have some form of side effect and for me to choose which one I'm going to live with. Well... I figured I'd just stick to metformin. My appointment went well. I asked the surgeon so many questions that I thought he was going to kick me out! LOL He was very patient and allowed me to shoot away. I asked him things like "What size bougie do you use and why? How does the bougie size relate to GERD? How big will my pouch be? Do you staple and suture? Is it okay to mix Miralax in water? Does sleeve make you susceptible to diverticulitis attacks? How many incisions will you make? Do your patients complain about excessive pain? What do you do to get the gas out as this is very important to me? Do your patients complain about lack of energy? If so how long did it last? What is your complication rate? Do you use an epidural? Approximately how many of your patients experience hair loss? He game me a cuddle bear to bring with me to the surgery. It was a nice touch. I don't have to start my preop till the weekend, but I've decided to start tomorrow. Originally I thought I'd have to start today, so the two extra days were a bonus for me. Since my friend (she's not having surgery) is going to do the preop diet with me, I decided to start tomorrow. I've been having food funerals as it's been referred to in the message boards. In doing so, I'm actually getting fed up of food. My family is quite enjoying all the restaurant foods we've been ordering. We don't do the cheaper fast foods, so our pockets don't feel the same way about this phase!

    I'm Doing It!

If they approve you at a BMI of 40 and your preop diet takes you to a BMI below 35, you should be okay. It's my understanding that once you get the approval if you lose weight during the preop and you go below the 35 BMI, it's okay. To be completely at ease, try checking with your surgeon's office/billing specialist, so you know your insurance's exact requirements.

    Anyone 30-31 BMI pre op?

Wow, congratulations! From 192 to 145 is a 47 pound difference in 5 months. It's amazing! I would be ecstatic with a loss like that. You should feel very proud of yourself. You work out a lot, so I bet some of that weight is muscle. Did you start working out as soon as the restrictions were lifted? Did you go into it slowly or the full 1.5 hours 6 times a week? I'd love to have the same success you did. I heard some of that Dr. V's youtube videos and now it's now making me second guess my planned approached to exercise. Can anyone share how soon you returned/started to exercise and how was the intensity level? Has anyone lost a lot of weight just by walking?

    I'm Doing It!

Awww, your avatar use to be one of my favorite cartoons as a kid! Love it! Thanks, I am feeling better today. I had my preop and I bombarded the surgeon with questions. Fortunately, he was nice and didn't seem annoyed. LOL I didn't think to make a binder. That's a brilliant idea! There's so much information out there. What did you include in your binder?

I'm glad your MD friend helped you through that moment. Our body deserve to be in a healthy state and this surgery will help deliver that. You got this! Like Novice said, once you get through the initial hard period, you'll love the shopping! I'm really looking forward to that. Oh, and being healthy...😜 This may be silly but, but aside from all the great health benefits, I look forward to washing my feet and trimming my toenails without a struggle! LOL Also, wearing dresses. I LOVE dresses, but never wear them like I use to. Anyone else wants to share anything they're looking forward to?

    I'm Doing It!

Thank you! I'm going in for my preop appt this morning. I imagine that my diet will start soon. I did do the H. Pylori test! I was convinced that I had it, because of how miserable I was feeling. My PCP's office called and said it was negative. However, when I went in for the consult regarding endoscopy/conoloscopy the doctor there said the results were positive! I was shocked since my PCP said negative. The nurse had to do a double take, because I told her that I was informed that it was negative. The doctor came in and explained that it indeed was positive. Anyhow, I was given antibiotics and an anti-acid. After the 2 weeks treatment, I was feeling AMAZING. My stomach was no longer feeling bloated. I was so happy. Then came metformin. Here I am feeling miserable again. I'm not sure if it's metformin or I need to get a test for H.Pylori again. I'm going to ask the surgeon. Is it my gastritis, metformin, or H.Pylori is back? Ugh... can't wait to kick the health issues to the curb. Go Sleeve! 😆 I know December feels like a long way right now, but before you know it, you'll be posting what a success your surgery was. Try to use this time to keep informed and do your research. Keep your mind busy on positive things which means you night have to avoid the news and politics! 😜 I spent time on this site and some other forums reading everyone's experience. One could never know how our bodies will react to the surgery, but I'm not going into it blindly. I'm making a conscious decision knowing of the many possibilities. A common thread that I noticed is that the individuals who did have some complications, were still happy that they went through with the surgery. I found that to be a remarkable testament. Exciting days awaiting for us.

I'm going to echo what some have already said. It's the surgeon's choice. My surgeon had me do one to check for hernias. It was one of the firs things that I did almost 6 months ago.
