38 isn't old at all, definitely not too old for surgery. I am almost 58 and am contemplating it.

Shoot I'm almost 56 and surgery date of January 12th, and if need be I will for sure consider it. Nothing wrong with wanting to feel good about yourself and have the confidence that we have always wanted.

I agree w Bifbills.... Don't b scared to tell them u hurt. I am not one for pain & I'll NAG the HELL out of a nurse to relieve my pain. I told my Dr more than once that after my surgery on Jan 28,2021 I will ring that bell til someone can help me.

    How u feel better

You can bet I'll do the same, as my surgery date is January 12th, 2021.

  3. Casey1234, I agree with both Bifbills and chinadoll2285. However, I am still pre-op as my surgery is scheduled for January 12. I am very nervous about the pain control because of the way the Drs now treat pain. I feel a lot of them are afraid to help with pain for getting in trouble with idk, whomever monitors what and how much they prescribe pain meds. It really does stink because everyone is different and some ppl do great on just tylenol and where others need an opiate of some sort? I so hope that I don't run into this problem either I feel your nervousness from here. I do hope that you are feeling better and the dr gave you some medication that worked for you. I have had 14 previous surgeries and I do know that pain control is a big desisive factor in getting up and working the soreness out-ie.. healing faster. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Enjoy the journey Best decision i made

Thanks so very much. I am a little nervous, not gonna lie, but I am far more excited than nervous. My health has gotten so bad that this I pray will help get me back on track. I do greatly appreciate the encouragement.

No, if you use almond milk, the pudding won’t set.

As a tip, it works great to mix instant pudding in a shaker container. (That you mix shakes in) it’s extra easy to portion out into smaller containers.

Thanks so very much for the info. I knew I thought I'd heard that about the almond milk, but wasn't sure. I so appreciate the feedback,

Also, how are you feeling? I hope all is going smooth for you. I am suppose to call first thing Monday morning to get my surgery date. I'm so excited and nervous at the same time.

I truly laughed when I envisioned you putting dry Protein powder on your jello---oooououououououo! :D

The Protein would be added to the cold Water when you are MAKING the Jello from scratch! However, I'm not a Jello person--so I make sugar free fat free Jello instant pudding: Add 2 scoops unflavored whey Protein isolate to 2 cups cold skim milk and mix. Add a small 3 oz. package of any flavor jello instant pudding (make sure it says sugar free/fat free), whip it up, and put it in small 1/2 cup containers in the frig. (Makes about four)

I've read in these threads where people also put the unflavored protein in mashed potatoes, oatmeal, etc. but I've only ventured into the pudding. Good luck in your journey!

Thanks I've been looking everywhere for a more simple way to make the sugar free jello pudding pops. I actually purchased the GENEPRO? really wasn't sure which one to use, this is what GNC recommend. I have a quick question please. Can I use almond milk in place of the skim milk? I have watched so many different youtube videos that I think I heard somewhere that the almond milk will not work? Thanks so much in advance for you help.

Hello, all the way from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. My name is Yumna and I'm Canadian/Pakistani. Living in UAE since 2008. I've been obese my entire life. Thank you, mama and Papa genes! I have the same story as all of you in my position. Did 100000s of diets, activities, prepared food subscription, spent thousands of dollars on things that just DIDNT WORK! I also suffer from PCOS and it's not been easy!

I'm honestly so tired of trying and now that I am married (since 2019 January) I want to start a family. My PCOS is the number 1 reason why I've resulted in looking into gastric surgery, I knew the option was always there but to be honest I never felt uneasy in my skin. Growing up chubby made me comfortable with who I am. But now that I had a miscarriage and want to start a family. All i am seeing at the end of this dark tunnel is another thousands of dollars, needles, and suffering for years to try to grow a family. JUST BECAUSE OF PCOS AND OBESITY!

Ahh, my frustration now is beyond I've ever been with my weight and PCOS. So here I am looking through this forum and trying my best to get all the information i can for

    1. Gastric mini bypass

    2. Gastric sleeve

These two are what I'm stuck between, I've visited a very qualified surgeon here in UAE - he has recommended the mini gastric. however, the idea that not only will my stomach be sliced but also my intestine is scaring me. So i ask you gastric sleeve and bypass recoveries to tell me which option is best and why. When you were deciding why did you choose what you did and how has it helped you and failed you throughout the years post-surgery, I want to know the good the bad, and the ugly!

I would like to make a decision in the coming 2 weeks and set my mind up. Till then ill continue to go through the millions of threads here!

If you've read this far, THANK YOU! 😍

Hi Yumna, you are a very beautiful young lady. First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. I am still waiting on a surgery date myself. I am supposed to find out this week, but here it is Thursday? We shall see, it they get back with me. However, at the beginning I was like you, not sure which surgery I felt like was best for me. I am a lot older then you. I am 55yo, and 5' 6" with currant weight of 284lbs. In pregnancies I always gained a lot of weight, usually anywhere from 50-80 lbs. It was always so hard to get it off. I did it 3 times but like you I have struggled with my weight all my life. Some ppl have no idea? We wish we had their metabolism. Anyway, this is a great place as is youtube I think for information on all the different bariatric surgeries. I was gonna just get the sleeve, but I had read where so many ppl said they gained their weight back, So, that and the heartburn reason is why I decided to go ahead and go with the gastric bypass. However, you study and prepare so you can make the right decision for you, as we are all very different. I wish you all the very best. If you want to talk more, I'd love to hear from you. Keep us posted. *** Sorry I didn't see that you'd already had your surgery, but congrats....

IMO i think as soon as you have all your stuff done, it should be turned in. Who cares if there are 9 people or 1.... I say first come first served.
My original dr/SX compiled all the results and submitted to insurance with a SX Date in one large packet. I was approved in 2 days.

Wow!! I know that was wonderful. I wish my dr office was half as organized?? Which I'm not sure if that is the case it could have to do with all this covid? I don't want to put my Dr or his office ppl down, because they have all been wonderful and very helpful. I am just ready to at least know my date. LIke I told someone else, It reminds me of a game we played as children the one I think called "shoots and ladders" 2 steps forward and then 3 steps back. I'm just ready to have my surgery. Thanks for your reply. I can see by your stats that you've done amazing.

I'm in NC as well. WakeMed bariatric is where I had my surgery. Glad you were approved!!

Thanks so much, and I hope all is going well for you. I kind of wish I'd gone to Winston or Wake for this but the Dr that I am going to has done surgery on several ppl I know and they have all done very well so I just want to get it done, already. Thanks for the encouragement.

I am still waiting on a surgery date but found out today that I was approved by insurance, was told sometime early December. I would love to have friends through this journey whos going through the same thing around the same time. No one would understand more than those doing this journey with you.

Yay!! Im suppose to find out my surgery date this week too. I'm hoping for around the 16th or so. I'm in NC, too. I will be having surgery in Concord, not sure if you are familiar with this area, but I wish you the best. Keep me posted..

Oh that's just not right. Don't they have staff that does nothing but that and can get out more than 9 applications in two weeks? Dang!

I know that's exactly how I felt. Wanted to update you.. I did receive my approval and I was told that they would be calling me this 1st week of Dec to inform me of my surgery date? I hope. I'll keep you posted and thanks for your support.

So I had my surgery on Tuesday. After vomiting blood the whole night, I was discharged the next day. I was given the same pain reliever I already take daily for my back but in liquid form (Vicodin). The pain for the next few days was pretty bad, but manageable. I also started having serious vaginal blood loss even though I had a monthly cycle before surgery. The pain has just gotten worse and I can hardly move now. My doctor have me a generic response of: “go to the emergency room for pain” (I guess I must have been blessed with really good doctors previously because they would address the problems over the phone) but I’m wondering, did anyone go through severe pain that you couldn’t walk and it hurt to move your abdomen the first week?

Hi Jokersgirl, I am waiting on my surgery date this week, so I haven't actually had my bypass yet. However, I believe Id wait on going to the ER where you had your surgery done. It is better safe then sorry. Please keep us posted, and best of luck.

my surgery date is 12/16! i start pre-op diet on Wednesday 12/2 and i’m freaking out. i can’t stop eating, i feel like i’m about to lose my best friend...as fat as that sounds 🤷🏻‍♀️ anyone else having this issue? i’ve worked so hard for this in the last 8 months. i’ve already been postponed once because of covid and paranoid/terrified i’m going to do my 2 week liquid diet then get postponed...

I feel your stress, myself. However, I still don't have my date of surgery. They are suppose to call me this week with the date? I'm excited for us. Hang in there and keep us posted.

I’m new. Package went to insurance yesterday, so anticipate surgery late December or possibly January. I’m looking for supportive folks. Age 65, female, CW 272. Gastric sleeve.

Congradulations. I am myself just waiting to find out my surgery date. I was told that I'd be informed this week? We shall see. I am 55yo female, CW 287 and I'm 5'6". I look so forward to this tool to help me be able to at least be able to hopefully walk without being in intense pain. I wish you all the luck and keep us posted.

  15. I live in NC, and finished up everything the Dr. required so we could submit to insurance for approval. I was so excited. The nurse and staff informed me at check out that it can take up to 2 weeks for a decision. Well, today is Nov 10 and just shy of 2 days of the approx. 2 weeks for a decision from insurance, so I called my Dr office just to check the status to only be told " that my information hasn't even been submitted to insurance yet because they're 9 people ahead of me?" OK. Understood, but why wasn't I informed that on the day that everything was complete, instead of the wait time now of 9 more people ahead of me. I guess I'm just curious if this has happened to anyone else? We work so hard to get to the surgery day to be told we have to wait again. IDK... just upset. Thanks for listening and letting me get this out.

yellowish stool is often indicative of fat malabsorption - although maybe not always, so it's probably good to ask

bright red blood is usually hemorrhoids or an anal fissure, neither of which are particularly major, so you may be OK there as well - but again, it's good to get it checked (and they'll probably have you treat it regardless, so it's good you're going). Really dark blood can be more worrisome because that means it's coming from much further up the G/I tract.

good information for future reference. Thanks. I also hope that you are feeling better.

On Thursday October 22nd, had 2nd Surgeon appointment. The next day the Surgeon's Nurse called with the date of November 4th for my rny! He typically requires 2-weeks liquid diet but said to start Monday when I'm back from camping. Surprised but very excited it's happening so soon! Started my process on November 15th, 2019.

Wishing much success to all!!! 😺

Wonderful, and same to you my friend. Please keep me posted. I'm excited for you.

I'm from Shelby NC but had my surgery in Charlotte. Its nice to finally meet someone that is dealing with the same thing, near by. I had surgery the 14th of sept so feel free to reach out with the questions.

I know my doctors' main office is in Charlotte. I see Dr. Bauman, at his office in Concord. They have been so wonderful there. I hope things are going good for you. I guess I am most concerned about the first 4 to 6 wks. I think once I get thru those couple of wks I'll feel a little more at ease as fas as complications go. I am just nervous. You know what all we go thru to get to a surgery date, and then now that i am waiting on insurance approval...I'm nervous as can be.
